I have several of these hats. All I've been wearing for 10 years. You can apply anything you want but you might lose the natural pattern of the leather. My work hat has never been oiled, except by sweat and oil, and remains as amazing as the first day I put it on. 10x stronger than cowhide and water resistant. Don't sell too many of these as I don't want everyone looking like me.
I got the hickory stone, and put barmah leather conditioner on it, and the hat turned to look like the brown. It still looks nice, but sucks, as I was really in love with the hickory stone finish
Yeah, leather conditioner will do that. You could try buffing it with a cloth or soft brush (like a shoe brush), that might make it a bit closer to it's original colour.
I wear mine in the rain all the time, and if you apply a leather wax or waterproofer to it and it’s seams it holds up very well and keeps the rain off of you. Many leather conditioner products will darken the hat, so test in an inconspicuous area to make sure that you like this and are okay with it. I personally love the deep rich brown color that my hat has taken on over the years.
I noticed you had to tug the brim of the hat over your forehead to get the elastic band seated. Should the Barmah hat be snug, to where the braided leather band is somewhat taking the shape of your forehead? When I have mine on, I have to tug the brim of the hat forward in order to slip a finger between the elastic band and my forehead.
Its a matter of personal preference really. I can fit 2 sizes in this hat . A Large size and an XL. I prefer a looser fit so love to go up a size but a L is also pretty sweet. I think its a matter of personal preference. Thanks
