So glad you're continuing to work on this car. It's so nice to see proper fabbing and improvements verses cobbled together temporary roadkill fixes. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Roadkill and there's something to be said for "don't get it right, just get it running" but its refreshing to see things re-visited and corrected. Keep it up Finnegan, you're a legend!

That diff pinion bump stop is attached to some pretty flimsy sheet metal. It's self adjusting as the floor flexes- that's like F1 tech with their adjustable aero that deflects to lower down force the faster you go. See that's not rough, that's next level engineering! On ya blokes!!! 😎

The rear end looks the same as the 42-49 Ford 3/4 - 1 ton. The webbed side of the rear end housing has the same bolt pattern as early Halibrand, Frankland, etc. Champ quick change. They bolted one on each side of the alum. case. The r&p is a 4.86 that is the same as in the Champ rear ends, the pinion was modified on the splined end for the rear cover bearing. Love the Charger! That car is like a rolling museum for circle track auto racing! EVERY race car back in the 60's was built by DIY self taught backyard engineers who were hard core racers. ALL of the "technology" used in that car was commonplace on short tracks around the country. The first generation open wheel North Eastern asphalt modifieds used Chrysler torsion bars in the front suspension because it was very adjustable. These guys raced 5 nights a week at as many different tracks. Asphalt on Thursday, dirt on Friday, 1/4 mile on Saturday and 1/2 mile on Sunday. Such a great time in auto racing history!

I love it when drag racers try to rationalize and/or poke fun at something they never come close to understanding it's original intention, and built with what was available at the time. Sure it was rough, but it also appears it wasn't close to finished.

Hey Mike, I know it wont work with coolant spills, and it sounds crazy as hell. But when you have an oil spill on concrete, use a bag of cement for cleanup. It works way better than kitty litter. Try it once and you will become a believer.

This is awesome. My friend had one of these 68 chargers when I was in high school in the mid-nineties. He hit a deer and a tree with that thing and barely made a dent in the car (not so much luck for the deer or the tree though). He also had issue starting it, but he could pop the hood and touch a certain bolt with a screw driver and it would fire right up. Hilarious. That car was a tank.

You should convert the front to coilovers so you can run a stiffer spring rate, and probably a stiffer sway bar/fix what you have. On the control arm, you probably could just find something on speedway that would work. Just eyeballing it, that suspension geometry doesn't look awful, you should have a really aggressive front camber curve, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Those plastic couplings are just about the only thing you can find locally at parts stores for joining these hoses. Auto Parts stores could make a lot more money if they carried universal fittings, AN style fittings, adapters etc rather than carrying every exact OEM matched part or after market part for every car on earth. I swear they don't even know what people are after. I wish we had a jeggs or summit retail store here. People with access to these stores make me jealous. Amazon is sometimes 1 day 2 day , but when you're working on a project it's just nice to go and get a coupling or a fitting when you need one locally.

I wouldn't touch that mess on wheels with a 20ft water pipe, the suspension and rust are killing me, but it's still cool seeing you guys make it work. I guess the story behind all the jankyness is worth messing with it, but it kinda killed the mood when the guy didn't even want to drive it round the block, even slowly just for the kids enthusiasm, I mean they did revive your car and went through the trouble of finding you. He knew what he built I guess. And yeah, showing the kids what "dirt nasty low" means :)
