Man they are still out there . That’s why I’m always looking. A good time is to look is around 8:00 am-3:00 pm on Sunday . Because people open there garages up to do yard work and chores. And that when you spot them .

My friend Greg Stender bought a green 1970 Chevelle LS6 454 in the mid 1970s when we were in high school. He sold it to a guy in Eugene Oregon, Gary Metcalf who raced it. I lost track of it in the 1980s. Sure would like to know what happened to it. It had a black interior, 4 speed. Greg Stender got the car from a guy in Coos Bay Oregon in 1974. Being only 4 years old when he got it, it was perfect!!! The car was already a legend at that time, and Greg took great care of it. We all had great cars back then! Of course we didn't know how rare and valuable they were going to be today!!!

I have a 1968 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe with the L74 350 4bb. carb and auto trans. and my radiator is a 3-row with an IA tag on the radiator tank as well. The hose attachments are different sizes. The top one is 1 1/2 inches and the bottom one is 1 7/8 inches. My car also has factory A/C which is why. Thanks, Patrick and keep finding more Chevelles.

I never saw the need for originality. Since I was a Street Racer, anything I had was modified. My favorite car was a '65 Biscayne with the "Drag Pack" option. That meant a 425hp 396 and 4 speed wrapped in a "Plain Jane" sedan with steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps. I couldn't afford an original so I bought a '65 Biscayne with a 283 and 3 speed. Most importantly, it didn't need body work or paint. I installed a 550hp 454 and a Richmond 6 speed. Added disc brakes and Hotckis suspension. A new interior too. Total cost including the price of the car? $20K. An original '65 Biscayne with the "drag Pack" option was going for $75K. In 1976, I had a '65 Malibu SS which someone had installed a 396 bored to a 427. A cylinder cracked so my neighbor sold me his high mileage 454 LS6 that was sitting in his garage. I installed the 454 and raced my roommates 435hp 427 Corvette and beat him. It had a 4 speed and 4:88's.

I've been following this Orgy of muscle cars for a while now. Back in 1973 I had a super nice 56 belair and a really pretty girl friend, we were cruising on the freeway south of the city where I lived on one sunny Sunday morning . A Chevelle SS ,blue Metallic, came along side and indicated he wanted a bit of a race. Ha ha , no way my stock 265 and bolt action three speed was going to match that car, the First i had seen in my part of the World. I often saw the car at weekend drag races and often wonder what ever happened to it.
@jamesarriola6056
@jamesarriola6056 6 лет назад
Mercmad That’s cool man. My first car was a 63 bel air 4 door, grandma car! Cold A/C, automatic. Paid 250 bucks for it! It had like 60,000 miles on it when I got it in 78. Car was tough as an anvil. Wish I still had it.
@Mercmad
@Mercmad 6 лет назад
When I bought the car it was newer,relatively than anything I own today.. ha ha. i paid $1600 and it was in almost new Condition. After a couple years flogging around, the 265 succumbed to the old 265 problem, it lost a piston crown and i kept driving till it stopped. I swapped in a 327 which I had bought from a dealer, a 365/327 minus the intake ,so i fitted a 750 Holley and proceeded to scare myself stupid until i sold it one night. There's no way i could ever afford to buy it back now . Even those early 265 V8 engines fetch good money from people restoring 55 and 56 chevies.
@jamesarriola6056
@jamesarriola6056 6 лет назад
I actually have a 67 Camaro today, matter of fact drove the car this morning. I kinda like the idea of scaring oneself stupid! The small block 302 cubit inch makes 463 hp, perfect without being over the top. Add a 4 speed 4:10 positive track and it can really make a man smile. Man I really enjoyed sharing these kind of experiences, have a great day.

Naturally I wish I still had my 71 SS 454 365 horse M 22 Muncie four speed rock crusher very unique sounding transmission once you had one you knew the difference in a it was a factory reps car had some unusual options like power door locks factory stereo And that window sticker at over five grand no salesman could understand why that car was so expensive and did not have factory air but the M 22 transmission was the most costly option on the car and I never in all the years I owned it come across another Big block Chevelle that had the transmission this one was the same color as mine except I had a white vinyl top bumper guards and if my research was correct there was only 17 cars built with power door locks and I would be willing to bet they were four-door cars. And the factory Am Fm stereo radio was a pretty pricey option also

Another great find. Thing is these cars are not rare. GM put truck engines in these cars and basically put a stripe on them with a SS badge. What’s sad is displacement doesn’t mean anything with today’s technology. My o4 SS has a V6 and puts down 320 hp. GM back in 55-65 I think had what they called fuelies lol that put down more hp than a B.B. engine. They discontinued it because it was a 400 dollar option that no one could afford so they quit production of the fuel injection. LS6 is the only Chevelle that counts in my opinion.
