Aired on CBS for 8 seasons, Jan 1973 to April 1980. Theme by Jerry Goldsmith. This is the episode with William Shatner from 1973. Check out this very similar theme from the same composer and same year: • Police Story Theme (4 ...
I remember when this came on in '95, I would stay up til 2 in the morning just to hear this. And after this, the Streets of San Francisco with Michael Douglas. The theme music back in the 70s and 80s will reign forever. This brought back so many memories from my childhood and my place in 95. Thanks!!
The 70s had the best TV theme music, period... Incredible days in themes: Mission Impossible, Hawaii Five-O, Wonder Woman, Battlestar Galactica, Happy Days, Good times, 6 Million Dollar Man, Welcome back Kotter ,Roots, Knight Rider...Wow!!!😳 Naming only those I remember at the moment. So grateful I lived the times❤
A lot of people don't realize this but Buddy Ebsen was at first a very accomplished dancer. It was only much later in his career that he delved into acting.
This theme puts it over the top as a must-see tv. This means that if the show was good, you are going to be there, and you don't even want to miss the intro.
One of the best melodies I've ever heard. It was written by Jerry Goldsmith, who was a Jethro Tull fan and this theme sounds like it was right off of the Benefit album. I liked it so much I learned it on classical guitar.
I am 75, and being a Jazz lover, learning from my Dad, since I was a child...I would RUN to the television...just to hear this extraordinary piece of music!
Putting the murder solving puzzle together= square pieces with JONES name..but, first comes the blue squares= events unfolding until the deed happens and the big black box is... murder, followed by the name BARNABY JONES appearing in scatalogically, scrambled, and jumbled form= repping JONES getting clues and info..and finally, BARNABY JONES putting it all together and solving what the audience already knows, and he comes out on top and straightens out his own thoughts into a cohesive conclusion... Jerry Goldmith did this theme, and JONATHAN GOLDSMITH as JONATHAN LIPPE before changing his name back to GOLDSMITH, acted in guest roles on the show a few times. But, nope..neither are related. WHO IS JONATHAN GOLDSMITH? Dos Equis MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD, ring a bell..? STAY OLD TV SHOW WATCHING, MY FRIENDS.
TV theme songs from the '50s and '60s were so original and cool. Like this one and Hawaii-Five-O, Mannix, It Takes a Thief, Mission: Impossible, Perry Mason, Peter Gunn, etc. Back when Hollywood had real creativity and class.
I remember as a kid lying in front of the fireplace in my pajamas, winter costal storm blowing outside as only it can along the B.C. coast watching all these shows with my mom.
This is the goddamned best TV show theme song of all time. So good it makes me cry. I want this played at my funeral. Written by Jerry Goldsmith. There's a TV theme medley on RU-vid where he conducts his own TV songs with the London Symphony Orchestra. Anyway, the bass here is so encouraging. Be glad you heard this before you pass on.
True, and I loved the folksy wisdom and one-liners. It made our elderly hero not just determined and wise, but very compassionate and human. There are three episodes in the second season that show great understanding of the human flaws that lead to tragedy. How many shows would do that today, and with such a gentle, talented actor?
Oh man, this brings me back. If I stumbled out of bed and my parents were watching this, I knew I was up super late. It felt like a forbidden time for a child to be awake. It was only 9pm.
I absolutely loved this theme! I would stay up till 10 just to hear it. It was so laid back and a catchy theme. Jerry Goldsmith was the best TV theme composer then. Another favorite is "The Waltons" the very first theme of the t.v. series. Very sensitive and family oriented!
Michael Bowman...one of the few notable exceptions to that rule so to speak, was the two part Deadly Conspiracy finale, when both Cannon and Jones fired at the same time to kill the gangster who turned toward them with a shotgun !
Love this show! I wish I can see a nice, lengthy montage of Barnaby Jones engaging in physical confrontations/fistfights with bad guys. It's so remarkable to see an elderly man do that. He appears determined to get the job done regardless. This gets to show that age is just a number. Many thanks to all those who contributed to this series.
Buddy Ebsen was originally cast as the Tin Man in The Wizard Of Oz but he had a bad reaction to the makeup they were using and got sick, so he was replaced.
When it came to the theme songs, the narrator setting the stage for the episode or the way the shows having an ACT 1-4 format nobody did it better than Quinn Martin from THE FBI to CANNON, BARNABY JONES, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, etc.
Awesome piece of music for the Barnaby Jones theme….Very NFL Film-ish ….smooth and flowing…great rhythm, and tempo….the horns, the flute, the bass line, the drummer using the high hat and not much else…..a great classic TV theme song….
