I remember this, born in barnsley in 65. used to luv going t'market with me gran from kendray on bus, used t'cost 2 pence one way.

I'm 16 rn so I don't remember Barnsley being like this at all but I can tell u something I'd rather Barnsley be the way it is on the video now than what it is today - Adam Steven Robinson

I love Barnsley and Wombwell, especially in the 60's. Miss my family the Oughtons.

Great video im from wakefield my mums from barnsley i remember going to barnsley market when i was about 5 ( we moved when i was 6 ). As for the below comments i agree that the council have taken barnsley from a individual nice looking town into a industrial town just like any other.

I was a member of Barnsley Cine Club in the 1950s/60s and remember Tony Harrison and Brian Haigh very well. I know Tony is no longer with us, but what about Brain. Anybody got any news of him? Bill Edgar.

Define and identify "pretentious buildings"... if buildings like the new council offices, the new college site, the capital business park at dodworth, the new transport interchange, the ongoing development of the Manvers area and the series of new apartment buildings currently being built bring down unemployment, provide a better education resource, attract commercial business thereby resulting in more job opportunities and stimulate the local economy...well I call that progress not pretence!

1. I'm not trying to make you look stupid 2. Lol you seem to think I work or have worked for the council. 3. Everything in my previous comment is true - Unemployment has been brought down in Barnsley due in part to new business moving into new unoccupied buildings. Education has been improved through the new college sites. Housing has been /will be made slightly more affordable by the new apartment buildings.
