Baroness Newlove: Victims of Anti-Social Behaviour Need Better Support 

The widow of murdered Garry ­Newlove has spoken out about the terror of living as a target of anti-social behaviour. Baroness Newlove wants the Government to do more for victims of anti-social behaviour who are suffering a “daily torment of harassment, intimidation, or vandalism” and are “living in constant fear in their own homes”.
Baroness Newlove's husband, Garry, was murdered outside their home in Cheshire in 2007 after he confronted a gang of drunken youths who were defacing his wife’s car. They kicked him to death in front of his daughters. She believes that victims are being denied access to specialist support, with anti-social behaviour often “downplayed by police”. Helen Newlove wants the Victims and Prisoners Bill to include a “trigger” system that will mean if someone reports three consecutive anti-social behaviour incidents to local authorities, it will unlock access to victim support services under the Victims’ Code.
