Awesome video dude! I have just watched all your Barony videos and I enjoyed them a lot. I see a LOT of value and potential in your content. I'm eager to see your next videos, it can really help new players approach the game and vastly boost its reach. Also, even though you missed a couple of things that somebody already pointed out on another comment, your production/editing style seems very professional, and I like that a lot. It made me think that you had big channel, but I was surprised when I saw that you only have ~10 videos. I have almost 180 hours on this game, and I have completed at least 1 run using each Race, and their signature Class, and I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who enjoy rogue-likes, to try this game.

I sincerely appreciate everything you said!! I put in a lot of time making each video and upping the quality when & where I can. I hope with my editing style that it conveys information clearly, concisely, and professionally so everyone has a clear understanding! I love this game to pieces, and just like you mentioned, I hope by making content about Barony, that it reaches as many people as possible! On top of that, I really hope by making content as well, that it increases the frequency of meaningful updates from the developers! Once again, I sincerely appreciate your compliments! :)

One thing I wanted to note is that Barony has an arachnophobia filter that replaces the appearance of the spider enemies with bright red crabs! A downside to this, however, is that Shelob (renamed Bubbles) has nothing visually setting him apart from the other crabs. Just be wary if you hear a large amount of them or see a bunch of them stacked up, because Shelob's pretty quick and you likely won't be able to run away without some means of slowing him down

There's two other rare enemies that spawn in the mines. Algernon a white rat surrounded by a small horde of his kin. Dropping a pre-appraised gem on defeat, along with all the cheese and meat from all the rat kills, its easy to know when he's on the floor due to the unusually high quantity of rat squeaks. Thumpus the Troll. I can't say much other than he has more health and deals more damage than other trolls, and i think is uniquely hostile to Gnomes whom are otherwise allied with Trolls. Another note is that Trolls have very poor perception, basically being unable to detect players under almost all circumstances outside of being directly adjacent to the troll. They also tend to be hostile to most entities other than gnomes making it possible to draw them into other creatures to soften the troll up.
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 6 месяцев назад
You're absolutely right. Unfortunately I noticed about 3/4 of the way through editing that I completely forgot about Algernon and Thumpus. I appreciate the insight, I'll try to be more meticulous in the future! :)

@@roogeydoogz I've been trying to decipher dwarf fortress, but youtube has been showing me rec's for Stonehearth which I would much prefer to be playing, alas my system can't run it. Its a cute very aesthetic colony builder seems its had a mild resurgence, the devs got bought and shut down and a community team has been developing a mod that effectively picks up where the official team left off, it wasn't much to look at back when I last looked but that was some years back, it seems to have definitely improved and worth a look if you like stuff like rimworld but aren't super hardcore into the combat.

That's odd, when Thumpus spawns for me he usually comes with 2 gnomes, I've had this happen once in the mines, another time in the labyrinth, and once in the ruins as well (there he actually spawned twice!)

It's a no brainer to buy Barony on sale, the amount of content you get for like $10-$15 is crazy! Sorry, same guy, different account. In my case, I really appreciate the depth of the game but I don't have much time to play it myself. So I'd love to see a channel covering the aspects of each class or race. When are they strong or weak; what equipment to prioritize; how to approach enemies; how to circumvent the weaknesses. Also basic to advanced gameplay: how does a run of a class/race looks like in the beginning and what it looks like in the end. I think all of these things would be extremely fun to watch! I wish I could have all this experience myself but I unfortunately don't have the time. Anyways, that's just a request. I understand I'm asking too much. But I really liked your videos on Barony so far and I see great potential!

Another banger my guy. But I'd like to expand upon the information on how boulder traps fully work and how to counter them best as possible. Boulder Traps from my testing... and many deaths to them... seem to have 3 or more variants to them and their effectiveness at possibly killing you. To explain I have found a few methods in dealing with them and their variants. I took note on how Boulder traps only work horizontally or North South, East, and West to simplify terms. To expand upon this idea, I have found 3 versions of the range in which the trap trigger Long, Medium and Short Range in which the traps will randomly choose 1 of the four available directions and ranges, for context I learned of its insane range the hard way being ran over by a boulder that went 20~ tiles give or take some. (take a 1 long gap as 1 tile then apply to every block for better understanding :D) because of those deaths i learned to just be weary of long corridors and quick swap to lanterns or torches to look for these traps and upon spotting them I apply 2 methods to trigger them. Method 1: quickly dart a few tiles (2-5 is best to avoid being crushed or insta ran over if medium or slow speed) over the dev/trigger lines to see if it triggers and rolls by. (If running into a wall go 4-8 tiles and then quickly turn around and double back to safety) Method 2: the safer option but depending on the trap spawn harder to pull off if unable to due to the map gens which is "The Diagonal Item Drop" as stated the traps only trigger and go horizontal or N, S, E, W so if you go at them diagonally and dropped anything right undeath where the boulder drops you can 95% of the time trigger it safely (can die if you misplace yourself or get to close) clearing the boulder trap without much fear, but as stated this might not be an option especially if the trap spawns in a certain corner or in a hallway. I learned these tricks as the tutorials that the game offers in my opinion does not adequately teach the player how to deal with these traps (one of the tutorial traps was a pressure plate you weighted with a rock :/) and with more testing tossing throwables weapons (I.E rocks, throwing Knives, and the Bronze Hatchets) DO NOT trigger the boulders for whatever reason most of the time. I hope this was informational for those needing more tips, and Roogey if you read this I'm damn sure you can condense this better than I wrote this out :D

@@roogeydoogz all information is appreciated as you helped me figure out strengths and weaknesses of certain enemies a better, namely the troll, slime, ghoul, and rat for floors 1-4 which were unknown to me, seeing as the DLC giving the monster playable characters give away their strengths and weaknesses away, which helped my play style a bit as I tweaked it to encompass dealing with them a wee bit better. After all there is lil to no information (and if there is it’s very bare bones) on this game and your Vids are very informative as is even without having to delve into hyper detail like my boulder rant XD. I just wish there was more overall information on the game since Fandom sucks and steam replies and guides are kinda iffy at best here and there. All n all keep doing lords work mate.

@Matthias_Prudholm I completely agree! Most information I've found tends to be from the Fandom Wiki-- which yes, is a decent start to understanding the game... but for the most part, it lacks any personality and all of the information becomes bland and unhelpful past a certain point. Like yes, understanding the danger of traps and how they operate is great, but how EXACTLY do they function??? Just like you mentioned, they have very specific characteristics that isn't mentioned anywhere, especially on the Fandom Wiki. I'm sure I'll be seeing your comments in future videos! See ya then! :)

first, i thought i'd comment on the Parashu pronunciation thing, i've watched some of mistersneak's streams (one of the game's designers at Turning Wheel) and he pronounces Parashu with similar diction to "pair-a-shoe", hope this helps. second, i wanted to ask about some of the monster weakness/resistances listed in the video (notably the troll's) because a few of them are inconsistent with the values displayed on the wiki. i think barony's wiki is sort of dead, so do you know if the values in the video are more reliable than those on the wiki? great video! i love barony, it's good to see people make content about this game.
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 4 месяца назад
I'll be completely honest, I did consult the Wiki for a couple of topics, notably enemy types and their weaknesses. Unfortunately, it seems like you're right-- the Wiki is either dead, inaccurate, or simply unreliable. I had noticed that a good portion of the information was slightly incorrect, or again, completely false. As far as I know, the values are accurate. However, that may not be up-to-date with current patches. Also, after making some more videos, specifically the Hat and Mask videos, I've learned that relying on my own testing of values is MUCH more reliable than the Wiki lol. I don't intend on using the Wiki for any more information. I have messaged a few of the developers asking for more information on enemy types and loot tables, but unfortunately none have responded. Also, Parāshu... Parashu... same thing lol. Just kidding, I appreciate you letting me know the intended pronunciation-- I can be very particular with words sometimes lol

3:24 Actually false, I've stood below a boulder trap without triggering it many times. They trigger by walking in the line they will roll in. You can be 10 tiles away, as long as it's in the intended path of the boulder, it will trigger. But if you walk underneath the trap from a direction the boulder will not roll in, the trap won't trigger. 3:32 Your own clip demonstrates this well, on one side of the trap, it doesn't trigger, yet walking past on the right triggers it when you are 3 tiles away. Also, fountains can poison you and heal the hunger status like food would. 5:33 What a terrible choice of words, I think we both know they are NOT immobile. They are pretty slow is what you probably meant, but they can walk, so they are not immobile. The definitions of the word immobile provided by google are "not moving; motionless" and "incapable of moving or being moved". So we can both see that the ghouls are, in fact, mobile. 6:22 Why do you call them "succubi" but then put "succubae" as the plural? The plural of succubus is succubi or succubuses, NOT succubae. I see myself as a beginner, have only reached the baron once and barely failed to beat him, so I clicked this video to learn stuff, but I guess me just paying attention in these levels already made me more knowledgable than "experts" making guides? Not only do I have all these corrections to offer, I also didn't hear a single thing so far I didn't know. And as I said, I consider myself a beginner and still quite bad at this game, as I only bought it last week. So this video is pretty disappointing honestly :/ I already had the videos for the next 2 biomes open in other tabs, wanting to watch all 3 right now, but after just over 6 minutes of this video, I feel like these videos are only useful for 100% beginners who have not launched the game yet and want to be spoiled on the experience instead of playing the game themselves. I genuinely can't imagine anyone trying a couple runs not already knowing everything you mentioned. I know you never claimed that there will be some secret info in here or anything. But maybe you should advertise the 100% beginner nature of this video in the title?
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 3 месяца назад
First off, I really appreciate you taking the time to pick apart the video. Not only does it correct some of the glaring errors in my writing, but it also tells me that you watched the video through and paid attention. This video definitely is for beginners, however, it's not a "one size fits all" kinda thing. You're probably much more experienced at learning these types of games or just games in general, so I'm not too bothered by your feedback. These are a passion project, served to help people who struggle learning some of the stages. I try to reference the level of experience of beginners with someone like my girlfriend-- she struggles to learn more advanced games/mechanics as you'd see in Barony, but can manage games like Disney Dreamlight Valley, Minecraft, Outlast, etc. She tried Barony and struggled a lot, so again, these types of videos would tailor to someone like her, lol. Moreover, while it indeed IS for beginners, I just want to remind you that videos like this are aimed towards beginners looking for any particular topic that they struggle with-- specific enemies, how traps function, maybe just wanna know a little bit more about the different points of interest. For example, I struggled HEAVILY while in the Gnomish Mines, mainly because I didn't understand how the Wizard Gnomes work. I never new it was a high risk-high reward level, and honestly, didn't even know it was optional-- I just thought that was the next level. Lastly, my choice of words certainly aren't always accurate. As you can imagine, someone with minimal editing skills, low confidence in publishing content-- I mean, mistakes are going to happen. I try to correct them when they come up, but I'm still learning. I'll happily accept the criticism, seriously I will. It's a bummer you didn't enjoy the video though, maybe in the future I can capture your attention once more and show how much I can improve. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to write everything, and best of luck slaying Herx!
@ardynizunia9709
@ardynizunia9709 3 месяца назад
@@roogeydoogz First up, takes more maturity than most content creators have to respond to criticism positively, so hats off for that. Secondly, as I concluded in the end, my only problem was the expectation I had of the video, I know your title doesn't actually promise anything wrong, for a comprehensive breakdown, I personally just expected some more complex mechanics or details I didn't pick up on. One could argue this is a false expectation I set and not your mistake. So the purpose of my comment was not to trash on your content, but rather to say "I realize now that I am not the correct target audience for this video series." while also pointing out some objective mistakes to help beginners watching this video a bit as well. And it gives you some pointers to look out for certain details more in the future as well I suppose 🤔 I wish you all the best on your journey and improvement. Have a nice day.

I genuinely appreciate it! I guess that's what I was getting at, that you may not have been the target audience, and there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. I'm still very new to content creation, and as you can see, obviously mistakes are common throughout some of my videos-- but I still have a ton of fun making them. Maybe some day you'll stumble across future videos and see how they've improved! But until then, I'm gonna take in criticism and see what I can do to refine my approach. Maybe you should consider uploading content, maybe give a more precise perspective to some of the mechanics in Barony! :)

@@roogeydoogz Thanks for the enthusiam but I don't think I could do that right now. Frankly, I have enough personal motivation related problems as is, I can't really bring myself to learn video editing at this time. Maybe we'll hear from each other again under a future video, until then, best of luck.

If you're talking about Shelob, it's probably because it's 'lob' and not 'lab'. It's probably because of my sexy accent, sorry 😎
