“The Barrett .50 Cal. Uncompromised. Unyielding. Unstoppable.” I love how this man always finds a way to give such a badass quote these legendary firearms.
@@BobThomas123 this doesn't sound as weird as having a high-caliber anti-materiel military rifle available for civilians. That, coupled with MMDDYY format, are not normal outside of USA, hence my original comment.
I remember in American Sniper, Chris Kyle said that one of the advantages of the Barrett was that it simply scared the hell out of whomever you shot it towards.
Fun fact. Barrett customer support received a call from Marine scout snipers in Iraq. They were pinned down and their weapon (the barret .50) had a malfunction. The customer support team walked the sniper team through percussive maintenance and had the .50 firing again in no time.
Im picturing the scene from transformers one lol Barrett support : "sir... your attitude is not going to speed things up at all.... im going to have to ask you to speak into the mouthpiece very clearly" Marine : "IM IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR !!! THIS IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS !! (to other marine) EPPS I NEED THE BARRETT'S SERIAL NUMBER" Other marine : "MY BACK POCKET !!" Marine : "YOU HAVE 10 BACK POCKETS" Other marine : "LEFT CHEEK, LEFT CHEEK" Barrett support : ".....also sir have you heard of our premium package ?" Marine : *"I DON'T WANT NO PREMIUM PACKAGE"*
Can't believe it's been 9 years since the Deagle episode. I was in _fourth grade_ then. Videos have retained their amazing quality since then. Well done, Ahoy.
Consistently fascinating video essays. Thanks for never changing. The story of Ronnie Barrett being a normal photographer when he suddenly though “hermmm I should make a comedically powered killing machine” is hilarious.
I dunno, for those who've been watching since the COD weapon guides days, there's been a notable shift. Not a bad shift, but the current content focused around retro video games (with the rare iconic arms drop) is quite different from his earlier technical breakdowns of in-game weapons and load out performance for the latest COD title.
I literally was scrolling through my sub feed and was like "wait. tf did i just see?", scrolled back a little. and now I'm here because i will always flock to this mans content
There used to be a Half-Life multiplayer mod that was a realistic team shooter called Firearms (released before Counter-Strike!). It had a very small community, and if you were good, you'd be known. I was known for running and gunning with the M82. Great game, especially for its time. Good memories.
@@madgavin7568 He still has a way to go. As the name implies "iconic arms", he can talk about specific firearms that still follow under the broad terms of the videos he made (take the revolver/double barrel shotgun videos for instance, he can talk about specific firearms from those videos).
@@madgavin7568 Here's a few firearms to name: Colt Python Any Smith and Wesson Ruger Redhawk Mossberg 500 series Winchester 1897 Ithaca 37 Remington 870 Benelli M4 Sig sauer P226 HK MK23 HK USP Walther PPK Luger P08 Mauser C96/Red9 Browning Hi power FN FiveseveN Etc. Etc. Etc.
One of the most underrated things about Ahoy is how his videos just seem to drop out of the blue. Bonus points this time around for being focused on such a legendary weapon.
Thank you for the absolutely magnificent content you put out. Though rare, it's always a treat when you post something. Like an exquisite meal you can only enjoy at a very select establishment. The waiting list is long and you yearn for more, but one is happy and absolutely satisfied whenever that opportunity presents itself. Thank you again and please keep preparing these marvelous dishes of creative content. Cheers Mr Ahoy! 👍🤗
If I had the spare cash I'd do the same, most of my subscriptions nowadays post very rarely. But, when they do it's a real treat, considering the entertainment made by larger company's you have to pay for takes much less care in the final product
@@bucketsss.12.v43 notice how it wasn't dollars they donated in, it was "NOK", i.e. Norwegian Krone. 100 NOK equals $9.62 American dollars, at the moment. Though it's still a generous donation, any donation at all is, Ahoy is definitely one of the people who deserves a lot of patreon supporters, since he's putting out world class documentaries, some of the best documentaries about any subject ever made, and doing it all by himself. He even spends a long time doing all the custom animations for the videos, which is not easy in the slightest, and is probably what takes the longest to create by a long long way. The reason animation videos died on RU-vid is because making a video longer than 10 minutes meant youtuber could put a midroll ad into the middle of the video and earn more money that way. But for animation youtubers, it'd take months of work to create a 10 minute animation video on their own, their videos were always like 2-3 mins because that was the only way they could keep a somewhat regular upload schedule. So for Ahoy, who's videos are chock full of custom animation despite most of them being over an hour long, it's no wonder it takes him many months to finish. It's gruelling work. If he could get to a point where this could be his full time job, youtubing, and even employ an animator to help out with that part of each video on top of that, he could pump them out a lot quicker probably. The research and script writing and voice recording take a much shorter time than the animation does. So that'd be good. Although I feel like eventually, the best youtubers are gonna start being picked up by major TV and movie studios in a few decades, as millenials start occupying every big position in the industry and they know how good people like Ahoy are, how rare that level of talent is. And people like Jon Bois because of his sports documentaries on the channel Secret Base, which are the best sports documentaries ever made. And BobbyBroccoli for his Boisian style documentaries about physics that even a complete lay person can easily understand because he explains it so well, and EmpLemon for his documentaries about any sort of weird or strange topic that turns out to be incredibly interesting because of how well he presents them e.g. the story of New Coke in the 80s, or the video about who actually climbed mount Everest first because there's a possibility it was climbed decades before edmund hillary and tenzig norgay, climbed by a veteran of the Battle of the Somme, George Mallory. And so on. So yeah, with full support of a dedicated animation team (and research team too), making these Ahoy documentaries but with an actual budget and team, so that they come out quicker, would be amazing. And someone like the BBC or ITV would probably love to have him, just as a voice acting/narrating talent, not just for his own documentaries about video games. He's exactly the kind of guy with a distinct soothing and incredibly easy to understand voice that is just a gorgeous voice to listen to just like the voices of other people such as David Attenborough, Ahoy is exactly the kind of guy that these TV studios/channels would love to employ as a voice actor to record a narration about a number of different things and not only for his own documentaries about video games. I'm completely serious about that too. Whenever Attenborough finally passes away, Ahoy would be a fantastic guy to take over as the BBC's voice actor/narrator or choice. And so maybe by the time CEO and chairman and president positions in these TV broadcasting companies like the BBC are all run by millenials as baby boomers have all finally died off, they'll know of Ahoy's silky smooth gorgeous voice and his ability to write and create world class documentaries, they'll hire him sjd that can really be his full time job from then on. If he wants that, that is. Maybe Ahoy only does this as a hobby and has a separate career for his day job that he likes and doesn't want to abandon to become a voice actor. But yeah I really think there's a good possibility he ends up being one of Britain's foremost voice actors/narrators.
There are very few special youtube channels that have that special something. Internet Historian LEMMINO Ahoy Among all, these 3 are in a special category all of their own. Doesn't matter if it takes months, or a year for a video to come out. Doesn't matter if it's 15 minutes, or 2 hours. I drop everything I'm doing to see the new masterpiece.
As the story was being told of how the Barrett came to be from the inspiration of a photographer, it made me think of Brandon Herrera. He’s very close to going down in history to be the first man to create a 50 BMG Kalashinikov rifle!
Ahoy there! I've fired the M107 while deployed in Iraq, and it's way more comfortable to shoot than many people think. I'm 5'6" and it does have considerable recoil, but thanks to those huge buffer springs it's more like a good firm push than a kick. Thanks for another great presentation!
Stuart, I hope you know that there are many people here who have literally grown up alongside your content. In high school these were always what I looked forward to watching, and now out of university I continue to enjoy them. Great work man.
BROOOOOOO same man i was in middle school watching his B01 guides and in 2014 I was a sophomore in high school when the AK-47 episode came out truly the best content creator on this platform and the most underrated.
*Informative, Everlasting, Stalwart Friend. Some youtube channels come and go, others last a generation.* *Iconic Arms. We're still here. Then you for listening, and until next time, farewell.*
This channel got me interested in firearms when I was in middle school. Now I’m in college studying engineering so I can design firearms, and the content is still the same that I have always loved. Thank you, and keep up the great work. Love your content
I found out about Ahoy a few years ago with his mini-documentary on the history of graphics in video games. As of today that video is still the best quality video game related content I have ever seen online. This guy definitely needs to be known more
Ahoy a distinguished content creator with reliable action, truly a marvel to both audience and critics alike. Able to make a comeback at any point in time truly a timeless classic!
I met Ronnie Barrett a few years ago outside a movie theater in Tennessee. Turns out any movie his gun is in the creators send him a prop. He is a cool guy.
Whatever you do, don’t stop making these. I thought you had quit, but I got this in my recommended. Your content is unmatched when it comes to covering famous firearms from a gaming perspective.
Please never change. These videos have always been top shelf. They may come out irregular, but it is hard to create this perfection everytime without fail. Which of course makes the wait worth it each time.
I'm a little sad that he didn't include footage from generation zero, the Devs did a great job at conveying the power behind it only surpassed by the rocket launcher
This man drops banger after banger, and despite releasing only a couple videos every year, I still enjoy watching them due to the QUALITY of his work. Once again, Ahoy has done it.
No matter how short the video or how long you have to wait, Ahoy's videos are always some of the highest quality content you can find on RU-vid, I swear
Please never change, the editing, the art style, the voice-over, the accuracy, its all perfect, and i will always be a fan of your videos, even if im the only one.
Just remember that Call Of Duty's Warzone 2's Barretts .50Cal require 2-3 Headshots to the head. (7-9 Bodyshots in Warzone 1) SMGs does the same amount of damage to neckshots, as other Bolt-Action Sniper Rifles, PER BULLET.
What I love about Ahoy is the attention to detail like at 2:05 there are 48 stars on the flag. Most people (especially Non-USA people) would have just put 50 on it and called it good. Always top notch!
@@MrPaxio It was American territory, but not a "State". Statehood more refers to citizenship, before that it was akin to a "colony", though correct me if I'm wrong
These videos are always so enjoyable. The information, the way it’s broken down, the music, the editing, the voice, the chilling lines. All enjoyable and hasn’t changed a bit. Not the most consistent at uploading, but it’s always a joy coming back to a new video.
It's impressive how informative, interesting, stylish, and entertaining these videos continue to be after all these years. They take time, but that is understandable and worth the result.
Your videos are incredible. The layout and pacing of the information, your writing, how detailed you can get without it becoming tiring or sounding jumbled to listen to, and finally your graphics and video editing in general - I absolutely love the style. Thank you for the incredible content
He’s one of those special RU-vidrs who puts out quality over quantity. When you get a new video every week, it loses its wonder after some time. Whereas for Ahoy’s case, every episode feels special because it drops when you least expect it.
@@BusinessWolf1 Even the thumbnails with the flag colors of the weapons country of origin are marvelous. The music is done by him too. It's really incredible that one man can pull off such a high level production in short and long form. If you haven't watched it already his "Nuclear fruit" series is a treat.
@@Bobsofax64 I've watched his everything. But just so you know, the music production thing isn't that big of a deal. I've produced some random stuff myself and most of the tracks in his videos are just basic synths, likely on a saw pattern. That is not to say they don't fit or aren't really good in the videos, not at all. Just that it's not hard to actually make them.
You're videos are legendary my friend. I LOVE this series. 15 minutes if excellent editing and amazing facts. They're unique in this platform. You're appreciated buddy!
13:24 I haven't played BF:BC2 in at least 5 years, I still remember THAT mission rocking the M95... God I miss it. I do remember later switching it out for the Type 88 in later playthroughs. It had much the same effectiveness of the shots, but was better in handling, reload and capacity.
I’ll be real, if you decided to release a four hour video of you just dramatically reading the phone book, I would listen to the entire thing. Add onto that your excellent writing on your essays and I’m a huge fan
I notice how more detail is getting incorporated to your original solid-color style, it doesn't take away much for me and I really like it. Keep it up Ahoy :D
I love your videos, they're informative, straightforward, and the connectivity in video games and direct relativity to war and the evolution of the weapons through history is like candy to me.
I remember finding this channel when he made Modern Warfare 2 (original) weapon guides. Now over 10 years later I still watch every video because each one feels super special. The detail, presentation style, and instantly recognizable voice never let me down. He could narrate the dictionary and I would listen
@@FozzieOzbourne when I'm gonna watch one or those videos like the Quake one, I always have to go back to the beginning and watch every single video in that series, in order. So start with the Wolfenstein video, then the Doom video, then the Quake video, cos they're a trilogy and the later videos expect you to have watched the other ones first because they give more context to the content of that layer video. That's no bad thing though, spending a whole day watching all those videos in order. But yeah if you're gonna watch the quake one, watch the Wolfenstein and the Doom videos first. You must do it. That's the rules. Sorry.
Crazy that the guy who developed the gun didn't have a background in firearms before he started making it. Figuring out how to reduce the recoil must have been quite an engineering challenge. Great video as always Ahoy.
Well I think he saw that tanks had muzzle brakes and incorporated it to the rifle, the design and experience in weapons is already there, he just beat everyone in manufacturing the first portable. 50 gun.
It's also crazy how most of Barret rifles are now going south of the border to Mexico, where cartels are using it to kill each other and even disable military helicopters. Barret of course refuses to comment.
Ahh, I missed these. The interesting history, stellar graphic design, and amazing game footage. Ahoy's calming, poetic way of speaking. You just don't find videos this good on RU-vid anymore. I really hope there's more to come soon
Every episode is excellent in every way imaginable, but I think we all have to admit it: ever since we watched our first episode of Ahoy weapons, we fell in love with the ending. And with every next episode we just can't wait to hear what will be that final badass quote. Very satisfying.
The Iconic Arms series has to be one of the BEST produced series’s on RU-vid, and Ahoy’s quality over quantity values make every upload so much more valuable and enjoyable, especially Iconic Arms.
My god Ahoy, I haven't watched your videos in probably 10 years! Your voice hasn't changed a bit, and that's what always drew me to your videos. I'm here to stay this time. Always loved the knowledge I gained from your content. So glad to see you're still producing videos. Much love from Canada!!
This gun definetly is one of the most iconic snipers in modern videogames. That long barrel marked with the huge muzzle brake is instantly recognisable, and it's usually the sniper that no matter where you hit on the torso, your enemy is turned into red paste. Amazing weapon.
I work at an outdoor shooting range and had the pleasure of firing nine round from the Barrett M82A1 today. I'd say felt recoil was comparable to a mean 12 gauge shotgun. So happy to see this pop up in my feed.
I'm always glad when Carlos Hathcock's story is included when talking about fifty cals or sniping in general. He was a true living legend and it's good to preserve his legacy, especially with everything he did to support veterans after he retired.
IIRC, the rifles that finally overtook his record were also chambered in .50BMG. Edit: Just checked, current record holder was with the McMillan Tac-50, and most of the longest confirmed kills are indeed with .50bmg. Still impressive that Hathcock set and held that record with a machine gun.
