I am half Irish, my people having come here over 150 years ago. This song really touches my spirit. I can only imagine how my first generation forbears felt when remembering their home.
It simply brilliant that a modest eel fisherman (Neilly Coney) song is being covered far and wide and with such respect. I recall watching the making of the TV documentary ( feature my Uncle starting about with burning rag to the engine) For this song as a child at Quays in Kiltagh (KILKEE) The Gut, The Harbour, and Big Jack's. The abandoned sand filled in Corrs Quay rested among the 3 busy Quays but it our rafting and swim spot. Plus had great childhood memories watching the 80+ fishing boats from the Western shore coming and going 24 hours day to set eel lines, draft nets, then watch all of the crew mend the lines (known as running a line) Neilly among them as down to earth. Well done all here. a great sound..
