Watching these is so bittersweet. It makes me smile but feel genuinely sad too. I’m 39 now, so would have only been 6 when this was on.

Barry Norman on Jerry Lee Lee Lewis biopic "Great Balls of Fire" - "a lot of the former - not enough of the latter". Priceless.

Used to love Film so and so with Barry Norman. Never blew smoke up anyone's backsides and was truthful to the core which those in the film industry seemed to respect

Like his comments on Eddie Murphy where despite rightly criticising his even then tendency to make 'for the money only' films Norman gives Murphy a context and compliment that many others blinded by the comedy genre or his cv of turkeys rarely give him. His superstardom was a sign that the audience was becoming alot more open-minded and yes Barry it's 2010 and we all still wish he made better films!

I wonder if Barry done a special for the end of the 1970s? That would be interesting to know. Anyone know? The chances of it be preserved on home media and put up on here is extremely rare.

Pretty good 1990s predictions from Bazza there, aside from Tom Berenger whose star faded fairly quickly. I guess he couldn't have seen Jim Carrey and Julia Roberts coming. Might have done better in realizing Robin Williams would continue to be a big box office draw. No chance of predicting John Travolta's comeback.

That's not really true; Norman himself was definitely a part of the attraction. But the Sky audience was the wrong demographic for his show. Both parties should have known this beforehand.

Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks were the only ones to still be big stars come 1999!

@sybyly - I disagree, no one calls Stephen Fry arrogant. Grouping people together, judging them as less intelligent than oneself and then making a half baked pseudo psychological assessment of their motivations is arrogance. What you just did in fact. I do agree the BBC should set the bar higher though. What is the point of a license fee if it is spent on the kind of crap we can watch for free on 20 other channels. Things like Total Wipeout - how is that worthy of the BBC?

Tom Berenger, whatever happened to him, eh? As for Eddie Murphy, only The Golden Child was the real stinker of the 80s, otherwise nobody can fault classics like 48 Hours or Beverly Hills Cop at all.

Unfortunately I can't see past the pink jumper and concentrate on what he's saying. Bad choice Barry. No one can be taken seriously in a pink jumper IMHO.

Hey he never claimed to be a fashion plant. But he does talk with great wisdom and wit about film. Out of the what could have been roles, I'd say the most interesting would have been if Hunter had gotten the Sally role. I love Meg Ryan in that film. But would have liked to have seen Holly have a go at it. She's a great actress. Interesting when you see the different career paths of the two.

@sybyly - I didn't do any of those things. I pointed out you made an arrogant statement. What has arrogance got to do with your intelligence? You also made the statement "it makes viewers feel good about themselves" - that is a psychological assessment - I made no such assessment of you. And it is not arrogant to give a definition of what arrogance is.

I only managed 34 seconds. I remember this guy from when I was a kid and he has to be the most arrogant condescending prick in human history. I do remember that he went to BskyB for more money thinking he was so amazing the audience would follow him. They sacked him after 3 years because no one was watching. People only watched this because it had film clips and was on the BBC Barry, not because of you.
