Barry gets witness protection but Fred Armisen’s character is there to kill Barry with a pen gadget that backfires resulting in Barry having a shootout in prison
This is without a doubt one of my favorite scenes. Barry thinks he safe but they’re Cleary lying to him. Fred Armisen acts like there’s no tomorrow. Finished with some of the tightest action mixed with comedy I’ve ever seen.
I love how they preface these assassins with the fact that they have a podcast where they cover shitty gadgets, only for Armisen to get his fingers blown off by malfunctioning gadget pen-gun.
Barry always has this weird vibe of being surreal while also being very realistic. It's hard to explain, but no other show has ever given me this specific feeling.
It's because it somehow manages to capture how real events, especially high stress ones, can feel in the moment. When something happens that's unexpected it can sometimes take your brain a minute to process it.
I mean, they were probably good enough at their jobs, but didnt expect ceiling snipers in the middle of a prison or a mole brought into the team by a peer. Boy is that warden's career FUCKED
@@tenjenk I would think a bare minimum when handling protection services is vetting every person you're bringing in contact with your asset. Bringing people you don't know the identity of to people in protective custody isn't protective custody.
@@WillKlein If he had gotten to finish, the ending part would have been that those they lost were those that revealed themselves. Witness Protection actually does have a 100% success rate on their end, some people are just too stupid or egotistical to actually hide - there have been a few cases where someone in Witness Protection has gone around telling people they're in it, which obviously defeats the point.
Barry might just go down as the most rewatchable show ever when all is said and done...season 4 has stepped it up to a new level and yeah Hader should def get into movies after this either directing or acting I can't believe this is the guy from Saturday night live
It'll be tough but I think he's got a lot of ideas he wants to do, and barry proves his work ethic is out of control so it probably wouldn't take that long to make a movie after the show wraps
@@zacharyrosemann I mean yh I think most ppl w basic training in that situation could tell that guy was planning to do smg lol, the dudes face basically looked like a looney toons cartoon all covered in swet and stress... It wasnt as subtle as idk in captain america 2 in the lift scene where cap figured it out due to the swet in one of them and being kinda tense.
@@jamesfitzpatrick4171 His shooting angle at the start wouldn't let him hit Barry, and you could see he had trouble navigating the acoustical tile to re-orient.
I think the plan was for Fred Armesion to take out Barry, and the shooter in the ceiling to take out everyone else. When it didn't go to plan and Fred Armesion is on his knees screaming he may be (I don't speak spanish) telling the shooter to reposition and take out Barry (Because the shooter can't immediately see if Barry is dead).
@@shanehislop5360 bingo!! That's exactly what the plan was but the gadget (almost definitely from their bullshit gadget podcast lmao) malfunctioned, throwing off their plan.
As soon as I saw Fred though I immediately imagined them doing something like this on set with breaking character: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2aqd5VQqSRc.html
@@lukeclover3420 I think it would be funny if he also decides to take a deal with FBI to sell out Hank and Cristobal and they have to have him assassinated
@@porc1429 in common clearing tactics, it even made it’s war to Call of Duty, you have this one guy looking up because there might be an IED or a guy with a gun.
@@14199513cgn People hide in ceilings all the time during police and military operations. The only thing about it that makes it not so much of a danger is the fact that most ceilings that you could crawl into would also collapse under your weight. An old viral security cam police footage on youtube will show you a woman who not only tries it, but makes it halfway through the store before she comes falling through. In a prison? The ceiling is one of the most common places for inmates to hide things. In real life? Terrorists and criminals love hiding things in the ceiling. There have been plenty of HVTs in Iraq and Afghanistan that tried tactics such as hiding under the floor, in the wall, or in the ceiling to avoid detection by the searching US military unit(s).
Hard to beat his grouping at the end of episode 1 after finding Ryan dead. Also, the best wtf moment in Tv history is at the end of episode of Invincible.
@@YungM.D. you obviously don't know too many people in law enforcement. ive had jobs where we fire people id honestly assume are intellectually challenged and then you find out they became police. they honestly hire almost anyone now days. the only exaggeration here is that its the feds.
Between that and the look on his face when the show cuts to Barry after Sally’s epic rant in S2, Bill Hader has the perfect dumbfounded expression on his face.
They move to their respective sides because they think the bumbling assassin is a part of the other group's team. Obviously he's a part of neither which just leaves him isolated. It's absurdist comedy but it works in the context of the scene.
@@Research0digo Wierd how you didn't see them literally stepping out of the way as soon as Barry says he's there to kill him. Must be something wrong with you mate.
Hader ACTS with his face and his eyes like nobody even came close before, and he needs few words to express feelings of Barry From “neutralize the threat adrenaline high, to “oooh, f….k” in 2 turns of the head and 5 seconds
No one is mentioning the fact that the guys hired to kill him had a podcast where they try out ineffective gadgets and then Fred Armisen trying the disguised Pen gun blowing up his fingers is like the most intricate Set up and Payoff Joke in this show
Maybe a stretch but I think Barry was okay to die when the guy pulled out the pen but until it backfired he instantly wanted to live again in which he started to run for it as he heard the second round of shots. I think this perfectly illustrates the human nature of survival. That just me tho.
Hader gives a masterful performance during the action scenes. This is where we see Barry in his comfort zone. He has no emotion on his face, only calculation on how to get out of the situation alive and on top. Killing is second nature to him or it is just his nature. Showing emotions, being human is unknown territory for him and it's scary. So, throughout the season, we keep seeing this side of him pop up to save him from harm, physically or emotionally. And he hates himself afterwards or regrets his action. Kind of like how an addict acts. He is superb in how he portrays this multifaceted character so effortlessly. Praise is always thrown to some shows as being the best that TV has to offer with some performances being heralded as the best ever. But more attention should be paid or should have been paid to this show and Hader's performance in particular.
The payoff of the bit they did at the beginning about the podcast when Fred Armisen pulls out that shitty pen-gun and it just explodes in his hand had me fucking dying of laughter
Something that I love - and will deeply miss - about this show is how damn good it is at throwing off the scent. Like they have these insane endings that never fail to shock me. But then I'll remember that they laid the groundwork for those endings in the episode, and the middle is so dense and good that I'll forget it ever happened. Like here, The Toro states in the beginning of the episode that those two assassins are killing Barry today. And this scene still shocked the SHIT out of me. That's so impressive for a half hour show.
Shit was so fucking hilarious and badass all at once. Everything always ties back in the end in the most hilarious of ways. Bill hader writing don’t miss. Barry was looking like John wick at the end. He still got it😂.
Never has comedy, action, suspense, and drama been blended so seamlessly. There is so much about this show that I love and I could go on all day about the notes embedded in this show. It's an absolute masterclass of writing, directing, casting, adaptation, irony, satire, and more.
@@Zack29810 yeah, it was really good, but like, I feel like it was 3 seasons in 1. There's a lot there. It was good, but I'm also like? Dammit that sucks lol
Just that last shot with barry stood with gun in hand is enough to tell the audience that he's gonna escape lol. Dude is an absolute monster, but is also such fun to watch in action
The writing for this was so spot on. Being able to identify a threat and change immediately is something that only experience can do. The calm demeanor when Barry identified the threat was perfect.
Every cinematic production with any action sequences need to take note of the action sequences in this show. This is top-tier filmmaking, but there's nothing flashy about it! Incredible!
The guy merc'ing 4-5 people but then somehow getting himself strung up in the wire out of incompetence as he bursts from the ceiling is the funniest visuals I've seen in this show so far.
Man I miss this show. Such a great mixture of so many genres. I love how Barry mainly survived by sheer luck due to everyone being so incompetent. Always gave him the opportunity to put his lethal skills to use because they mess up somehow. Only show you'd be laughing during a horrific gun fight.
Armisen totally threw me off in this scene and I couldn't stop laughing at him, so the action surprised me. I had to rewind the scene and watch it again. The cameos for this episode were surprising and fantastic.
Any time Hader and Armisen are in anything together, it's perfect. I laughed so hard at Armisen's face and knew something awesome was about to happen as soon as he appeared. I'd love to know how many takes this scene took based on how easily Bill always broke on SNL, especially when Fred was in the scene
The assassins facial expressions and the way Barry does a double take after leaving the room, like he can’t even believe it’s real and he just looks so confused. This scene was as hilarious as it was awesome
I live in the scene, how he is being explain to in crate detail how he’s been protecting people for 20 years, and essentially saying that berries in such good hands just as Barry moments later, identifies a terrible threat to him in the room itself, and none of them are keen to seen that threat at all, and they all end up dying because of it. That’s pure comedic genius if I don’t mind saying so. And as far as Bill tactically removing himself from the room as he’s shooting, that’s incredibly great attention to detail. Even in serious gun films, they advance towards the target while using a range weapon. It makes absolutely no sense.
The second I saw Fred Armisen I couldn’t stop laughing and knew immediately that he was one of the hitmen referred to in the beginning of the episode and that Barry was in danger
Okay, so I know that, diegetically, Barry's busy squinting at Fred's character trying to figure him out but given how bemused Barry looks in this moment I also desperately want to think that Fred just randomly walked onto the set, one day, and Bill only noticed he was there in the middle of filming the scene - like "Fred?! What the ever-loving heck are YOU doing here?!?!" Honestly? Fred would! 😂
If the pen gun had worked it would've actually been a really good hit. The guy in the ceiling i think was supposed to clean up the guards and he did his job perfectly.
There are mag dumps, then there are MAG DUMPS From a fundamental perspective, I love that Bill or the showrunners have at least had some light weapons training that really ties it all together with his line of work and backstory. Amazing series; epic scene!
The casting session for this scene: Hader to Armisen: "So, you are playing Ferrecito from SNL whose life has spiraled into working for the cartel since he lost his cable access show. " Armisen to Hader: "Where are we putting the timbales in this prison interrogation room?"
Barry is just such an amazing show. Top 5 shows ever directed in my opinion. It literally has everything you want from this genre. It has super sad moments but also hilarious ones with people like Hank and Kristobal. It shows Barry being an absolute badass and a cracking shot, but also that he has serious flaws in his game like when he got fucked up by the kickboxer on multiple occasions. Bill Hader has some serious talent, both as an actor and a director, and I would not be surprised to see box office movies with his name by them in a couple of years
the face he makes while backing up and shooting is such a badass cowboy kinda scowl especially with the bruises and bandages. such a small detail but one of my favorite parts
Seeing the barrel have to move around in the vent in order to shoot berry adds such a realness factor to the scene that I just can’t describe but I love so much
You know I saw this scene online about a week before I started watching the show. Despite that, I STILL laughed my ASS OFF at it like it was new. Ridiculousness at its best!
