Yep he probably has a healthy relationship with some people within law enforcement and occasionally grasses a few people up over the years so that he can go on doing his thing. That's usually the case when you see a big shot gangster that has been around for a long time. As an example, Guy Ritchie (mega posho with a fetish for working class culture and gangsterism) talked about the Kray twins and how they informed a lot of his writing, given their presence in the underworld and the notoriety to this day. The Kray twins got away with their brutal criminality for many years because they had friends in the police but also friends in politics: they were nonces and supplied young boys to Lord Boothby and other high up people in society. This allowed them to get away with things for a long time. You can be sure that the fictional Brick Top handed over a few rival firms in his time to solidify his position (as well as feeding a few to the pigs of course). "Snitches get stitches" only applies to people at the bottom of the scale, whereas snitching is part of the game for the people at the top.
It took me up to june 2023 to get to say this line to a waiter in a coffee shop in propper way. What a lovely girl that coffeeshop keeper was, she recognized the film and we had a great long chat about it. :D
That's his weakest line. For those of us who grew up in that part of the world and knew the line already - it's as old as the hills - it was telegraphed and obviously coming. Otherwise the dialogue and delivery is very good, if OTT. Guy Ritchie has a bit of fun with the lingo in his films. It was funny hearing Mockneys talking about going down the 'nuclear sub' when, if anyone was ever going to use the navy-related slang term, the correct word was 'battlecruiser'.
Alan Ford was a masterclass as Brick Top. One of the most immersive and believable London gangland characters I've ever seen. For those like myself who grew up in London it's unmistakable how accurate Ford portrays that unpredictable, calm yet homicidally ruthless side.
That is funny; great acting in cinema; obviously you don't know this is real life, what do you think this is made up; obviously ur not from NY or another real city...
@@EnjoytheQ. it's common lots of places but here it's all about the character who's saying it. A complete nutcase haha but I don't need to explain this to you. He should've had his own movie and Les Grossman another
Brick Top is unironically my favourite portrayal of a gangland boss, as over-the-top as he's portrayed with the wisecracking, there's just something about the way people around him freeze up that really conveys how unpredictable and dangerous he is despite being a small middle-aged guy with big glasses.
My dad used to hang around with people like this. I've written a few books, such as Who Killed the Essex Boys, but once the old man is gone I will write about his time in the sixties, seventies and eighties with people like this.
i have all the deleted scenes as well, that i know of anyways. i would make a full directors cut if i knew youtube wouldnt flag the entire movie. i actually wish i could do that with alot of my fav movies. i recently did a huge edit of "no country for old men" of Anton Chigurh and it got blocked immediately. which sucks because i put alot of time into it. i could perhaps do a edit of all deleted scenes from snatch into one big clip if people are interested. i actually thought i had done it already but i guess not.
Met him many years ago in a pub in St John's wood. Apart from literally wearing a camel hair coat and looking exactly like the characters he always played, he was an absolute gentleman.
That’s some fever-dream stuff. Funny to imagine that Brick Top’s whole speech about body disposal & pig farms was less about intimidation; and more about giving his thugs time to set up the slaughter room.
But the youngster coming in with the gob doesn't get anywhere near the same treatment 😂. You gotta be spending a whole lot of money to get that respect.
That's the only problem with the movie. Americans will miss half the dialog. I suppose even the British lose some of the Pikey talk. It wasn't until I watched it with subtitles that I really began to appreciate this film.
As well as the camera work, editing, visual effects, sets, acting, and brilliant, original story. None of the major characters were stereotypes, except for Boris and Freddy, and I think that was deliberate for comical effect. Tony might be considered stereotypical -- until he balked at "opening" the dog. LOL And yeah, the script was wonderful and refreshingly original.
When Brick Top throws his cane and says, "Shhhh..You're going to have to repeat that."..has got to be one of the best uses of a prop in movie history..Great scene..
I've always loved the one guy out of the three who knew who brick top was. His acting in that scene is superb. He only had one line, I do. After that, it's all his face and his body showing the horror he knows he's in store for, while the other two have those dumb looks on their faces. This movie is a masterclass in acting. Thanks for the compilation!
I think he was rather understanding. He gave quite a lot of chances to people. They robbed his bookie, he gave then 48 hours to make it up to him. Turkish 1. Lost Gorgeous George, 2. His man didn't go down in the 4th, 3. He couldn't make the pikey fight. Yes, he did punish them and did everything out of self-interest, but he was quite "generous" for a villain.
he also burned down mickeys caravan with his MOM inside it.. so fuq him he desreved everything coming to him- WHY the FUQ are3 you defending this piece of shit if you are not a chatGPT bot
I respectfully disagree. Bricktop was ruthless and not at all forgiving -- an absolute psychopath -- as shown in the scene where he had the two guys killed for almost no reason. He was an opportunist, and only showed any mercy when he saw a profit in it. He only let the pawn guys go because Sol told him about the diamond. If they didn't get it for him, they surely would have ended up as pig food. Let's not forget that he ordered a massacre -- men, women, and children, merely as punishment for Mickey winning his fight.
Alan Ford, on his third reading (with the glasses on this time) beat out Sean Connery for the part of Bricktop! I can't even imagine Connery as Bricktop... Alan Ford is Bricktop, like Burt Young is Paulie (Rocky)
Oh, I am SO glad they picked Ford! Ford was perfect for the part. And those glasses were icing on the cake. Much credit to the creative integrity, here. They gave up a big billboard name and box-office draw in order to avoid stereotypical characters.
@@94462distraction... you get someone focused on you to such an extent using words they won't even noticed. Tony was winding up Errol so much Errol didn't notice he was pissing in his pocket. 😂
@@mooncat.787you're right he didn't. But my opinion is he's underrated because of how good he was as BrickTop he should've been given more role's on that performance alone.
If you haven't seen Sexy Beast, please try it, Ben Kingsleys character Don, is absolutely terrifying. This from the man that was Ghandi, what an actor.
This dude was so menacing. I remember watching it the first time when it came out and thinking "you see all these supposed mafia bad guys, thugs and villains in movies but this dude is real psycho gangster"
Crazy thing is Alan Ford. Who plays brick top is pretty much like that in real life.. There's an interview on You tube here where he is being interviewed by Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) and Alan Ford is quite an intimidating guy.. he looks like he is holding back his annoyance and could blow any time
British actors, British humuor only we can understand. Lets keep it that way. Please please do another, bring back Tyrone, the slim getaway driver. This film has hundreds of one linners which i use quite often on Tik Tok. This master piece of a film will never ever ever die. I won't let it.
I’ve seen Alan ford in character of Brick Top in a pub in Primrose Hill. Even though you know it’s an act, he is funny and terrifying at the same time.
