10 years ago I removed a large aggressive BCC, using Blackroot black salve. After about a week, the entire cancer came out all at once. I photographed it all. However, it came back recently and this time I am having it excised through MOHS, this coming Sept. It is huge, compared to what I see on videos.

It went well! Quick and painless and now 2 years later you can’t even see where it was.

Great video. Going to have this done in same area in July 2016 and wanted to find someone who had it done near nose and in lip area to see how they are going to close it up...thanks for posting, good luck.

Thanks for the video. I am going in for my surgery in Sioux Falls on Tuesday...and this eased me a bit. They've got a great surgery/plastic surgery team at our VA Hospital here...that also eases me a bit. Still, it is a bit scary. Again, thanks.

Glad to hear the video helped a bit, it's nerve wracking for sure, but in the end you'll be happy you had it taken care of. Good luck with your surgery! Feel free to check back in here after and let everyone know how it went. I'm coming up on a year post-surgery next month and plan to do an update video to give folks an idea how things healed up.

Thanks, things are healing well, though I still have an area of my lip that will take more time. Because of the incision that needed to be made up and under my lip, things will take a while to completely finish healing. I posted a quick update at the bottom of my blog about my experiences, you can check it out here: lanksforthememories.wordpress.com/2016/05/21/basal-cell-carcinoma/.

Thanks for the video showing what you went through! I am going in for a surgery consultation on Sept. 6. I'm not sure if your video calmed my nerves lol I think made them worse, but great information & now I have an idea on what to expect. Was there any down time after? Were you not able to do certain things with the stitches?
@juggleboy720
@juggleboy720 6 лет назад
I hope your consultation goes well. Sorry if the video freaked you out more :/ The surgery visuals aren't pretty, but given a little healing time the results have been great. If you haven't seen my update video you can watch that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sJX9WEVzzYY.html. As for downtime, I took a few days off from work, but I wasn't really physically limited at all. Based on the location I had to keep talking to a minimum for a bit just to make sure I didn't put too much stress on the stitches. Eating required small bites for a week or two, but again that was just because of where it was. The stitches will be covered so as long as you're careful not to scrape or hit the wound you'll be fine. It was tender to the touch for a while, but it really wasn't consistently painful at all. The worst part from a pain standpoint may have actually been getting the stitches removed, but unless you have any IN your mouth (like I did) they may just use self-dissolving stitches so you won't have to worry about that part. Good luck!

Honestly after watching a few videos on RU-vid trying to figure out what all this is going to be like, I really don't want to be sliced opened lol I really do appreciate you sharing your story because it prepared me for what this will all be like. I was in the dark before when my dermatologist called me & said I needed to have Mohs surgery done. I know someone who had a big one above her eyebrow & she got rid of it using the cream so I'm going to see maybe if that's an option. Awesome update video! Your scar healed up nicely! As you said in that video you could see how tender & swollen it was. Mine is on my left temple next to my hairline (on the side I sleep on lol) & I'm nervous they would have to shave hair off to make the closure. All of these videos the mole is pretty small in size but there's always a huge slice with like 17 stitches. After they cut the hole, did they do a diamond shape to be able to close it do you know? I've seen videos where they say they can't suture up a circle so they cut a diamond shape around the hole. Anyway, I'm rambling on. Just nervous is all.
@juggleboy720
@juggleboy720 6 лет назад
Totally understandable to be nervous, but the important thing is that you're being proactive about it. Because of where mine was there was no simple way to close it. The diamond cut thing makes sense, but because of my lip that wasn't really an option. I hope everything works well for you, just be sure to keep the line of communication open with your doctor and you'll be fine. Remember that everything heals in time and hair grows back :)
@krystal2214
@krystal2214 6 лет назад
You're right, hair does grow back. I'm just wondering what happens to the people who don't get these things checked. I loved your reference about it being the paper cut of cancers (I now like to say this). I know it's not something to put on the back burner so I am being proactive. I have a list of questions to bring with me to ask the Dr. Maybe I will do a vlog about my journey like you did. Thanks for all the advice!

I made the mistake of watching every video I could find. Mostly the ones that are my size. Mine is the size of a dime. I had gone to my doctor years ago but he just took it off with what looked like a wood burner. It went away then came back a few years later. So I had no idea what it was so I let it go. I’m kinda mad but my doc died of cancer….

It happened to me exactly on the same spot you have yours, went to my mohs surgery yesterday so I'm swollen and in pain, but it was taken on the first cut. And I'm eating using a straw. it calms me down to see I'm not the only one, get well

It was quite a while. Depending on how extensive the reconstruction was your experience may vary, but I would say it was at least 6 months before it felt mostly normal. Good luck with your recovery!

I have a spot on my nose that I'm worried about. Went to the dermatologist this week and she said it's not obvious that it's skin cancer cause it's so new (about 2 weeks) so I have to go back in 3 weeks. I am so scared :( I hope it's not
@juggleboy720
@juggleboy720 7 лет назад
The fact that you took the step to go get it checked out so early is fantastic. I waited WAY too long to have mine looked at which is part of the reason my surgery was so involved. If it turns out to be more than a regular blemish you'll be glad you were proactive about it. Best of luck, please check back in after your next appointment.

I'm 23 female and I'm pretty sure I have a basal cell carcinoma :( I am getting it checked tomorrow . I have had it for a bit over a month. I thought I had a mark or dry skin but it hasn't gone away. It's not a pimple. it's pale pink mark, it's flat and scaly, maybe a tiny bit raised. I am sure after seeing bccs that I have one. It's right on the top of my cheek bone near the corner of my eye. I'm just really hoping I'm not going to end up with a horrible scar :( . may sound vain but I'm only 23 , I haven't found any info about them being frozen off , it seems that all the treatments involve cutting it out , scraping it or applying a cream. I feel so cheated because I'm only 23 :(
@juggleboy720
@juggleboy720 7 лет назад
It's definitely tough when you're so young, but you're very smart to get it checked out now. If it is a BCC you'll be happy that you had it taken care of and you'll probably e amazed by how little a scar you'll have in the end. Don't be freaked out about the initial surgery (if you indeed have to have it), doctors do incredible work to make sure the eventual outcome looks as natural as possible. With where my BCC was, and the type of incision they had to make to remove it, I've been amazed by how well it has healed. I'll try and post an update soon. Good luck!

I fully understand your feelings. I got my first bcc on the bridge of my nose aged 59 and despite being much older, my fear was the resulting scar. Hope you had it checked out.

i had the same exact mole u had basil cell but Man o Man i have a tiny little scar that went around the mole and next to invisible... so sorry what those Monsters did to u... my procedure was less than an hour... all they had to do was outline ur basil mole and cut it out and stitch it... they did Not have to cut so much, looks like they used u as an experiment... i had mine done at Kaiser hospital by top Plastic surgeon, not a general surgeon... so sorry... i do hope u heal well... use lots of Manuka Honey high umf... it will take about One year or less... u can always grow a mustache also... the grubby look like miami vice... lol

It depends on the location on ur face some of the reconstruction can be quiet sophisticated and complicated. I don’t agree w u not to be concerned or it won’t spread that’s really not true the roots will continue to grow and the surgery will be much more complicated. I think u played it down a little too much….
