I think the most inspiring thing is watching you go from a skydiver chasing 200 jumps to a wingsuit base jumper. A regular guy who decided to chase his dream :)

Mission accomplished, what are your dreams and how can I help make them a reality?

My dad used to skydive in the 80’s,90’s and has seen a lot, including having a double parachute malfunction and breaking his back. The one saying he says to me that always sticks in my head is “ there’s old jumpers and there’s bold jumpers but they’re no old bold jumpers”

That’s a good one! I’ve heard that one as well but forgot to mention it!! Great addition, your dads a wise man!

A lot of good wisdom in here. Definitely my favorite video you’ve posted in a while. Personally I think inspiring and entertaining people benefits them. But I still agree that on balance it’s fair to call it selfish.

There is a big difference between someone having the impression that he/she is controlling his/hers reality and someone actually controlling his/hers reality. I would argue that the latter is just an unanalyzed metaphysical belief that can not be accounted for. The belief in control implies that there is something (mind, consciousness, self, soul etc.) that ultimately escapes causality (physical, chemical, biological, psychological, social), at least for a bit, in order to control, but such a thing can not even exist. So whatever seems like your desire, your dream, your wish, your will, your achievement, your fail etc. is just a belief that there is something essential (me, I), that has some other things (dreams, desires) and that there is a true choosing. This kind of analytical system opens up a whole new perspective on what you experience and how you experience: Salvador Chang could not have been anything else than what he is at this moment and could not have gone any other imaginary path. Also, I kinda doubt that there is that true gaze intro the abys with base or skydiving and let me explain why (from my own experience). If you choose to jump, you do so because you trust your equipment. Apart from people that commit suicide, no one is truly facing death, because neither of the people jumping would not jump if they did not trust the equipment and hope everything will run smoothly until landing. That's why there are all the precautions especially with base (packing, weather, jump point and all other variables). Don't get me wrong, I know all too well the feeling one has when starting skydiving and at first you just throw your trust into the equipment and hope for the best, because you don't have the personal trust build with the equipment and at first there is more a leap of faith than a trust-based feeling. You can look at BASE as selfish, but also as a shared selfish> how did you think about trying BASE? Through others selfish acts. So their selfish acts opened a whole new world to you and now you share that experience. I would say BASE is selfish only for those not doing it and for those not inspired by it, otherwise it is a shared experience altogether with the community and the group that you jump with. "Becoming a nobody to a somebody" that is also debatable; we constantly become a nobody to some (people that we loose contact with) and a somebody to others (new people that we meet and develop relations with them). Also, we think we become somebody in our eyes, looking back at us, but is that really so!? Who's becoming somebody and who's witnessing the becoming?

With BASE being such a individualized sport and personal decision I do feel like it’s not selfish for everyone. For some people it may be the only thing they have that makes them a happy person which would enable them effect everyone around in a more positive manner than if they were an unhappy person. Personally I can’t wait to start BASE. I become an unhappy person and probably a bear to be around when I go too long without some sort of extreme mental stimulation. I’ve been into climbing and paramotoring and I started skydiving this year. Everything loses its excitement after I become accustomed to it except for when I have a close call which leads to being tempted to do riskier things etc.. I feel like with BASE that situation won’t occur or at least not for a long time. I feel like the edge is always going to have that rush without having to keep increasing the risk. Maybe I’m wrong but hopefully I’ll be finding my answer sooner rather than later. Keep up the videos man. I love the stoke and it keeps me dreaming. I also really like how real you are with it rather than just being the typical “here’s my jump, I’m never scared” no before or after jump content. You show the entire raw experience and don’t leave as a sugar-coated “BASE is nothing but fun the entire time” video like a lot of videos portray it being. Props on turning your dreams to reality man I can’t wait to do the same. 🤙

A lot of good stuff here bro-especially the “double McNugget twist.” Got to watch out for those! No. 10 hits. I’ve had this conversation with loved ones many times. For me, BASE is about self-actualization (realizing my full potential), so in that regard I see it as selfish. That said, BASE has also inspired me out of years of depression without me ever making a jump, so I can also attest that it does help others.

Have you not become a better person because of base jumping? So you have helped and made the world better? By interacting with others in a more positive manner because of your base jumping, you have helped every relationship you have because of your attitude. Thats who it helps. A father that hates life and spreads negativity into the world is hurting others, if that father could be a better person because of basejumping, they would be making the world a better place.

By your definition all sports are "pointless" or "selfish" because there is no objective purpose or benefit to humanity gained by getting the ball in the hoop, or running the bases. However, that doesn't stop anyone from enjoying the activity. Sometimes the whole purpose of an activity is to have the experience.
@SalvadorChangg
@SalvadorChangg 11 месяцев назад
True, but at least with basketball and baseball you can at least share the experience with other players on the team. Those are team based games. BASE jumping is an individual sport. It’s all on you.
@superman9894
@superman9894 11 месяцев назад
@@SalvadorChangg It's not a perfect analogy, but the point still stands. If actions are "pointless" and "selfish" when they don't have an objective benefit to humanity, then most recreational activities are pointless or selfish to some extent, BASE jumping is not alone in that category. I'm in favor of experiencing as much of life as you can while you're able to do so.

Wooaaahhh, that’s a big step. It’s your choice brother, it has to come from you. If YOU want to jump into the void and you feel it’s calling you then make the leap, but again, make sure it’s your decision. I support your either way! Good hearing from you!

I'm very surprised that ego is so big in base jumping, I mean you are literally killing your ego doing such a scary thing and it's still there. I thought that base jumpers, skydivers are humble guys.
@SalvadorChangg

Some are humble but others believe they are Gods gift because of how special and cool they are haha some truly believe they are better than others because they can push air around or do flips better than others…
