Hey guys simple melt today as i get ready to finish the 1000LB motor meltdown. I will be releasing that particular video on the 1st of October as its a big job to strip melt and edit. But todays is still interesting as i was sent 4 Baseball bats from a sub who works in a sports store . He said he had a heap of them damaged and couldn't sell them so he sent me 1 of each color. Not a heap added to the stack today but that big motor will make up for it. Now sit back and enjoy todays vid and ill see you all next week. 👌.
Feel like supporting the channel it wont cost you a cent as you can Simply just donate some of your time. By just by allowing the ads to play through this will help out a lot and that’s how I make a bit extra revenue and the good thing is more revenue means more giveaways and more treats for the dogs👊🏻😄. A better way to support the channel is play one of my playlists on your computer before you walk away from it and let it play through that really helps as well but don’t ever feel as though you need to watch the ads if you don’t want to simply skip them and move into the video it’s completely up to you and I understand if you don’t have the time to do so👌🏻and like I always say if you like the rings shown and used in this video be sure to check out the description where you can get 20% off the already discounted rings using my code and if you want to try your hand at melting yourself you can buy the burner on its own or the whole furnace set up and I can organize a 5% link for you off the total furnace price just email me on bigstackddddd@mail.com 😁👍🏻.

HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Seeing the steam/moisture explosions really makes you realise the dangers of melting metals. Thank you for showing them. Even if they were accidents or mistakes on your part, showing them is important. Its too easy to watch RU-vidrs and think they are all infalliable because a lot ofthem cut out those parts to look good.

And when the shuttle with Christa Mccauliffe exploded I was in a ceremony naming the school after her down in Riverside CA. Fastest school at the time ever built but it was just an entire modular school. A common shuttle bus only costs 50k each with a 14 passenger limit. What airshow is your uploads from? I'm glad you always remind in your vids about moisture and what it can do with extreme heat. So many people dont realise that when water goes from liquid to a gas it takes up 3 times the volume. Can be very explosive when contained or if the liquid is exposed to extreme heat. Having this skill and doing it safely is what makes it fun and continue to be fun. Plus molten metal hurts like hell when it sinks into your skin.

A challenge for the melt magician: 6:36 Is there any way to avoid the dip in the centre of an ingot as it cools and still account for the contraction?
@TeepenTeepen
@TeepenTeepen 2 года назад
If the casting were placed in some sort of oven and allowed to cool slowly, you would not get the dip. The dip comes from the fact that the outer edges cool faster than the center and solidify the shape right away. If you placed the casting in an environment where it all cooled evenly, you would not see this phenomenon.

I've been kind of wondering, why do the center of the aluminum bars that you pour sink when cooling down?
@Littlewolfe906
@Littlewolfe906 2 года назад
On the pouring of an Aluminum ingot the melt material against the mold cools first and solidifies against the mold at its full periphery, the central melt continues to shrink, progressively away from the outside mold, while solidifying and reduces in volume, hence the shrinkage. As there is no continuous flow of new melt metal into the ingot, this shrinkage results in the typical sunken area in the middle or thickest part of the ingot
@MoistOwlettes
@MoistOwlettes 2 года назад
@@Littlewolfe906 why does only aluminum do this? Haven’t seen any of the others he works with react this way.
@Littlewolfe906
@Littlewolfe906 2 года назад
@@MoistOwlettes Aluminum is a more malleable and is a weaker metal that lets say copper. It also has a lower melting point then that of other metals. Because of its malleability and that lower melting point it forms the sink in the middle. Altho copper and the other metals still can shrink, they won't shrink the same way. I hope that makes some sense.
@medicbabe2ID
@medicbabe2ID 2 года назад
In general, most materials are more dense as solids then as liquids. Therefore if you pour enough molten aluminum in a mold to fill it, when it cools and solidifies, its density increases, but since the mass is fixed, the volume must decrease. I. E. The part shrinks. Further, in general, things get more dense the colder they get, even without phase change. In solids, we call this the coefficient of thermal expansion. In gases, the ideal gas law shows the way at constant pressure. The same applies for liquids. So as the liquid aluminum cools, to approach solidifying, it's shrinking. And as the near molten solid cast part cools to ambient, it's shrinking.

Man, it would be really cool to watch you break down and melt an all aluminum engine block and heads on a dead motor! That would be one hell of a project! Great video as always.

I remember that pressure and the steam explosion well, and I remember Adrock's steam explosion with his cast Iron Ingot moulds, another great casting by the the master of liquid metals 👍 keep up the good work and I can't wait to see the giant motor melt down. See you in your next video 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was about to cry about the ice smash. 😂 I love the evolution, with the 2 cameras, of the smash. Good work.

You can't tell us enough about the danger involved with metal melting, that 1st explosion got my attention. It's too easy to get caught up in the end result, and not recognize the danger - thanks for the warning 👍
