Spanky McBean Yeah - I wasn't placing Amy Schumer as a far-left icon. Just meant that the college promotes some extremely 'disabled' political ideologies.
Scotty 1arm It’s dumb if they were gonna cut a sport they should have cut *men’s baseball AND women’s softball* not soccer and baseball if I was them I would be so mad
alicia.sugg. xcx They did it to receive Title IX funds, because the university was experiencing financial instability. In the end, I think the 2 programs remained.
Were these cuts due to Title IX? If true, then it is shameful for women's groups. The Women's Sports Foundation gave Howard University an F rating due to the fact that men make up the majority of athletics but only 33% of the student enrollment. These women's groups like to pretend that women are just as interested in sports as men but they're not. "In Study 1, the researchers analyzed the American Time Use Survey, in which 112,000 adults were interviewed regarding their activities during one day. Women accounted for 51 percent of exercise (i.e., non-competitive) participations but only 24 percent of sports participations. " www.gvsu.edu/gvnow/2012/males-play-sports-much-more-than-females-7343.00000.htm THIS is the cause of the large proportionality gap in men and women's sports. Also, I see that three years went by without someone answering your question. Not surprising.
Deez Nuts how fucking ignorant are you? Go watch a video of a softball pitcher pitching to a male hitter. The pitcher makes the batter look silly. I guarantee you I could get my local high school’s pitcher to strike your ass out. Fucking pig
Had to go through the same thing. It was tough as I traveled 4 states away from Home on a scholarship just to be told 9 months later the men's tennis program would be cut at the end of that year. Thankfully I ended up transferring and got another scholarship but it could have ended badly. The AD was also the head baseball coach and so guess who got a brand new field and indoor training facility shortly after??? You guessed it... and guess who put the 10000 tennis balls all over the new field... you'll never guess
Definitely some Feminist stuff going on here. You don’t just cut two men’s sports programs like that. It could be title 9 in effect which seems to end up making schools drop boys sports instead of adding girls sports. Also the person making the decision was female and I bet that had an effect on the outcome. I’m sorry for you Towson, this isn’t fair.
Lol why is this video suddenly becoming popular??? _FIVE YEARS LATER???_ *_AND THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN REVIVED, 4 CRYING OUT LOUD!_* All the comments are recent.. hmmm.... why is this only on ppl's recommendations now?
A lot of people are asking “why just men’s sports” it’s because that option is compliant with title 9 but cutting women’s sports decreases any spend they could have towards leftover sports, I.e women’s softball and women’s soccer are fairly low budget sports that the school can inflate spending on, and therefore allocate more dollars to balance for title 9 on remaining men’s sports

I know this is old news but I just want to point, as many of you already have already, a WOMEN President cutting Baseball-----not softball----and only Mens' Soccer 1:45. I sure hope the President of that school got fired or resigned.
is there any actual way to "play angry" in baseball? sure you can want to make an impact but you're not gonna see the ball in your hands more than 5 times a game to make an impact lets be real
An update to everyone just now finding this vid 5 years later like I did: They brought back baseball but they still haven't brought back men's soccer. In fact, they have more sports programs for women than the men. They have 11 women's sport programs and 6 men's sport programs. Also, some notable alumni: Amy Schumer Mike Rowe Brian Stelter Stacy Keibler John Glover
For a University with such a financial problem they are doing a lot of new construction onsite. To make it fair they should have discontinued baseball, softball and both soccer programs.
Those saying why not womens sports, that happens too. Look no further than the University of North Dakota cutting it's womens hockey team a year or so ago...which was absolutely a gut punch to a very hockey driven school... and other colleges that have been forced to cut back due to budget cuts. I think most universities try to make balanced cuts, but sometimes you have to look at the cost vs. money brought in, those two sports were probably the biggest losers -- thus they were cut. Also, this video is from 2013...so.. yeah.
none of you all know how the schools sports budgeting works. this isn't because they hate men. they don't choose if women's sports gets more funding through title 9. at my university, softball get substantially better attendance than baseball because they're better, and our football program is good enough to fund all other sports that the university officially supports. it's just how it is. you can try to take it up with the NCAA, but i highly doubt you're going to undo any of their gender policies
I understand the anger but it makes sense. Its a small university and they need the money and cutting the worse teams is what you have to do. Some things are more important at school and these players wont go anywhere in the big leagues. More money for education isnt a bad thing (which I hope it was for)
