Just an incredible generational talent; Flamme was my favourite character in my favourite anime, Rose was my favourite character in The wrong way to use healing magic she was also in cowboy bebop, railgun, fate, lupin, gintama, naruto and so much more. Agreed, I was torn when they chose such a good series that I thought wasn't conducive with their banter, I thought Shangri-La would've been a better choice, but Frieren is such a great show I can't complain

I mean don't expect this group to understand such basic things. The episode slaps you in the face with it with that quick flashback of the first spell she learned. People can't do simple 2+2 anymore when it comes to story telling, especially stories that SHOW more than they tell. If there isn't lengthy exposition saying "I chose magic because it was how Heiter and I bonded and it makes me happy" then they'll just be like "I wonder why?!"

That sounds like an excuse for bad writing.

Himmel was 16 at the start of their original journey, 26 when they got back and 76 when they reunited for the meteor shower and presumably when he died. I assume Heiter was either the same age as Himmel OR a 2-4 years older so when he died 24 years later he was either 100 or 104 like you said.

When I try to explain what kind of anime Frieren is, I compare it to Tolkien. It gives that Hobbit high fantasy vibe I love

​@@nichescenesI guess it's technically a shonen, but comparing to Bleach having one/few slice-of-life, to Frieren's whole theme is a bit off. It's more of a demographic/mag release, but fits much more to an actual genre; like fantasy, or even slice-of-life.

Otherwise we get into the annoying logic fights of people wanting to make their series seem more adult by saying well it's in shonen magazine but it doesn't feel shonen it's more senin. Like how people kept going well chainsawman isnt really shonen it's playing off that but it's good so its a senin. Its annoying since shonen runs all sorts of stories, action, sports, thriller, etc. JJK to dbz can have slow moments of reflection and character development. Frieren can have tons of battles and even has a exam arc. Overall as long as it's good that's all that matters and it's entertaining so ehh. (PS my most hated comment, HXH isn't reaaaaaalllly a shonen it's dark so it's senin...or AOT is much more complex and deep so it cant be a shonen. The same group that fights for anime to be taken seriously as live action downplays content lol) Tons of "kids material" in shonen magazine are R rated in American theaters. DBZ has someone flash someone for goodness sake XD.

@@Lolo-ji9xshow is this a slow burn though? It’s like 28 eps and in that time tons of stuff happens it’s just not jjk s2 levels of hype but people need to chill. I’m not the type that thinks it’s the best story in existence like others but it’s good doesn’t have to be omgosh in 2 episodes. To be fair he also rated it as being amazing. He loves it.

​@@nichescenes It's a slow burn because it takes several episodes to have any sort of direction for where the story is heading. "So much" happening later doesn't change the fact that it takes a good amount of time before it ramps up. Also, anything being a slow burn is not a good or bad trait in, and of, itself. Frieren executes it amazingly and it works for the story it's trying to tell.

Atleast the popular ones enjoyed mostly today like AOT, Berserk, Monster, HXH, One piece, etc. If chris is asking for more by the 40 minute mark of a 1 hour episode then I don't blame him. Plus he said he things it's great, not more I can ask. they were less excited about bleach, one piece (manga wise/tv show) jjk, one punch man etc by episode 2 so I think were safe.

Yeah, this is the wrong show for them. Their style of watching does not mesh with this. They're going to talk over, or miss, a bunch. They have already. They'd do better with Oshi no Ko.

@@johnnykotletti4614 Yes, surely the JAPANESE author chose some totally random GERMAN words to name pretty much every character and location in their manga and they only happen to be thematically fitting for ALL of them on accident. Surely "Sprechende Namen" aren't a thing. Claiming that names are just names in a story that is clearly written with a very high degree of care and craftsmanship is honestly kinda insane to me. The sheer degree of media illiteracy is really wild. Also: listing the google search resutls for 'eternal synonyms' and then claiming deeper understanding because of "being german" is really not making your case. You really aren't the only german on the internet. Additionally nobody ever claimed this was a perfect and all encompassing try at a translation. It's merely a "nice to know/fun fact" for those who want to appreciate the show and its themes a little more.

if you're going to call it by the localized title at least keep it full lol, the anime is called Frieren.

If they could not even feel the "substance" of this show watching the sub, I doubt watching it in dub (Which is emotionally inferior) will help.

It doesn't matter if they don't intend to watch and absorb the story. Even if you watch the anime without subtitles, it won't make any difference if you miss a lot of things and say stupid things that are already explained in the anime. Sorry, I'm using a translator. I'm too lazy to argue. It'll take a long time.
