In this video, I show you step by step on how I replaced my rotted bulkhead door with a brand new one. I also fix the framing and some rotted siding. This is a door that works for a sloped foundation. Hopefully this video gives you an idea of how you can replace your own door or do other repairs on your home.

I knew we were headed to the basement!!! Great job on this. I loved how you payed attention to detail and sealed everything up tight. The addition of the 4x4 border pieces and pvc trim with the bevel really made a huge asthetic difference. Even filling in the little hole on the side under the lip of the house. You won't have to worry about rain or leaking.

learning new things everyday. Love it when it is over engineered. I am using tons of LVL and stainless steel fasteners. I have the Ryobi oscillating saw, but I always use my Milwaukee M18 fuel or Festool Vecturo. The Ryobi oscillating saw doesn't nearly perform as good as they do. But it is time for me to revisit using Ryobi tools more often. It was cheap, and I don't care if it breaks.

This brought back memories of my youth. That same door was used to replace the rotted wood doors on our basement in 1968. Bulkhead, haven’t heard that word used to describe basement doors since I left Mass. in 1970. Come to think of it, haven’t seen a bulkhead since then.

I just watched your video on removing and building a deck and really appreciate your attention to detail with your videos, the fix and build involved and the written explanations because these projects seem easy till you get into them and things can go very wrong from there for the average home owner! I especially appreciate the attention on fixing the rotten siding, my siding looks about the same, it’s old and it’s some kind of vertical (only two exterior walls with vertical boards) melamine or cardboard crap that’s completely failed at this point and I’ve been stalling on what to do because ik it needs removed, the house where it’s rotten needs wrapped, etc etc but wasn’t confident if I knew all the steps so thank you so much and pls don’t stop filming your work!!!

Your work is so meticulous! I love that you even swept the sawdust! I do have to admit, when you first opened the door, I almost was expecting Clarice to pop out of there. (Silence of the Lambs) spooky. I live in NC and have never seen an entrance to a basement like this? Looks great! I can't believe how expensive the doors themselves were!. But "free labor", saved you just as much. And I don't like centipedes either. Amazing work!

3:35 That's, Scutigera coleoptrata, A House Centipede, they are a semi-beneficial predatory metropolitan insect as they eat other insects and spiders, but don't mess too much with them as they can bite but rarely do (its about as painful as an ant/bee sting), you'll usually find them in damp areas like near drains, in bathrooms, and especially in underground areas like basements, bomb shelters, and bulkheads. They get in multiple ways, through cracks in foundations and concrete slabs, Tiny holes in baseboards and doors, as well as open spaces near sump pumps, also easy access points such as gas dryer exhausts or garbage shoots. You can even carry them into the house by accident on potted plants or firewood, wood especially being a good way to carry them in as they often time have multiple insect/spider eggs hiding in cracks.
