My name is Shyvonne (Sha-Von). I'm a mother to 6 amazing kids. I love having a big family and wouldn't trade it for the world. I have 5 daughters and 1 son, ages 25-10. Once you get the basement cleaned and get some better lighting, the basement will seem less traumatic get some large shelving units that you can store your bins. Basements are notoriously difficult to keep completely dry. Keep everything off the floor and things will stay more organized. Good luck! It sounds like you got sick bring in the basement with all the mold. ☹️

Great first pass on the basement clean, declutter and organize. I am sure it feels overwhelming but you and your children made the first step. It is an improvement, already. You can also for several hours or a even day hire a professional organizer to come in and help. I believe the money would be well spent…definitely help with the anxiety of it all. You pray about it, take your time and know we are here for it. Shyvonne, you got this!! I have been a subscriber for awhile and enjoy all you do. Thank you for taking us along.

Shyvonne, please do not be embarrassed about your basement. My basement was in shambles as well and I got in there and took my time and cleaned it up. I told my kids when they wash clothes do not put their clothes on the floor but place on the hanging racks or the table because if they are on the floor and we have a flood the clothes will get damaged. I also put a medium size trash can next to the washing machine for trash and lint. I sprayed for bugs and spiders (home defense) and place moth balls in corners which bugs hate the smell. Once you get things in order and enforce the new rules things will fall into place. Your doing a great job as a mom. I am super happy the kids helped as well.

You have lots of space in your basement. There's a ton of potential. Stick to your schedule, get repairs and renovation done as you can afford and one day that basement will be a great rec room.

Honestly, I think it would be 90% less scary if you painted all the walls with white kilz and put plastic sheeting up for a ceiling. It would be sooooooo satisfying for us to watch too. Then you could set up a section for your home decor and it could be your own personal interior design “store” and you can easily see all your decor and “shop” whenever you change things up.

After all the cleaning and organizing I would spray all the walls white to lighten it up. I would do new lighting, having several dehumidifier down there and a really good spraying for all the creepy crawly things 😂 I think I would keep my lights on at all times. That will help with moisture too. So excited to see it finished. Get better soon. 😊

Shyvonne, I don’t like insects at all, especially spiders. I’ve gotten used to the house spiders, but we don’t see them too often due to the fact that I use Home Defense Faithfully. Just incase you don’t do this, go to Target, Walmart, or Home Depot that’s where I go and get some Home defense if you don’t already have it and spray it around the perimeters of the basement and by your front doors that stuff works greatly You have to be consistent with spraying in order for it to work. Continue to remove the lint from the dryer. If it’s not removed, it can cause a fire. You’re doing an awesome job! 👏🏽💕👏🏽. Keep it up!

Your kids are so cute, so beautiful inside and out, so intelligent, so helpful and such good kids….i just loved seeing Chris down there dancing, we don’t get to see much of him so it was nice seeing his personality shine and I’m glad he was there to help with the areas that you didn’t feel comfortable with. I am not scared of spiders but I am scared of rats and snakes. That would be something I ‘m scared of in the basements. You will get it organized! Looking better and you don’t have to to explain anything about your basement, you are alive. Thanks!

Wow!!! You guys got a lot done already! Love to watch this stuff. And don't be ashamed at all... we all have have these kind of areas. Mine is in the third bay of my garage. Decorations, sentimental stuff, extra furniture and garage stuff. I have no room inside. Just take your time and it'll look great like the rest of your house!!!

Great video Shyvonne ! Just a suggestion, maybe leave your big wooden table, set up, down there near the washer/dryer set up, so there is somewhere to work and sort laundry. Sending big Koala hugs from Canberra, Australia. ❤

That is a good idea. I did that same thing with my kitchen table instead of getting rid of it, I kept it and its next to the washing/dryer and we place our clothes on it.

Heyllo Shyvonne and kids Listen I would get some tables and totes and keep everything off the floor.I would definitely move my washer and dryer upstairs or make a washer room outside the back door and have the washer and dryer outside cause baby if it flood it would leak outside Older houses do have piping issues.Don't worry you will get it all together soon

@@ShyvonneMelanieTV I would keep that table (the old dining room table) and use it to keep things (especially clothes that are laundered or about to be) off the floor. It can also be used for folding clothes and making crafts.

Once you get your pipes done. You should really look into renovation. Like sealing the walls and pace the floors and have better organization storage and racks for your things.

Hi Shyvonne, good job on cleaning out your basement. Not easy I know. Get a kitchen size garbage bin for the lint and miscellaneous trash. Maybe a nice size table to put your clean clothes on while you do laundry. Your basement does not look👀 big. It's not the size of the livingroom to end of the kitchen. To get the bags and items you no longer want, maybe you can have Chris and a few of his guy friends empty them out for a few bucks. And maybe you and the other kids can stack the bins by color or category against the wall. But, do it around bulk trash pick-up day.

We hired one of those junk removal places when we moving out of state and they were absolutely awesome!! Cleaned out our basement and took loads of our furniture too!! Worth every single penny!!

Hey sis, I’m learning a lot from you. Life is tough out there. I want to suggest that you renovate the basement and make it a mini apartment for “G” this way you both can save money. That house has so much potential. I’m proud of you…. A small sister note. 😅 this amount of stuff down there is an indication that you self resolve by shopping. The outcome will always be the same. Good job on the basement! It was a good idea to set an alarm for one hour and have everybody pitch in. That may be the key to gradually getting it done on weekends. Don't rush it and do it alone.

Hey Shyvonne, So glad to see you pushing pass your anxiety and fear. I also appreciate your sharing the condition of your basement with us. I know that was not easy. I barely go in my basement too my laundry is as a scary disaster. I am glad you are getting started on your basement. After I cleaned out my basement multiple times with my family I was able to add another bedroom. Like a make shift bedroom down there for one of sons and I already had a bedroom down there. So I was able to get additional living space. You will have additional living space or at the very least useable organized space. I can’t wait to see your final result. God bless you and you family.

Hi I wanted to make a suggestion they have water absorbing socks that you can use around your washer until you can get it fix also spiders hate peppermint get the essential oil put some around basement after you spray for the spiders.❤

Hi shyvonne how are you salons you get shelves for the basement you get a lot of beans and all you want you put in bins and put them out on the Shelf label each one that's how the basement would look neat and clean and help you a lot then after you can decide what you are going to do with the floor I always watch you I just don't comment but you are one of my favorites

I had tubs of seasonal decor. It was overwhelming when I wanted to organize. As the Season came around I would go threw it at that time and get rid of it. It will be very overwhelming if you try to do them all at once. I'd just stack each season together for now and then start with the next season coming up.

Those old-school basements can be a nightmare you might want to I don’t know if you said this but a coat of paint on the walls might help brighten it up a little bit but believe you me I know and I remember those old school basements. Even after the plumbing gets fixed put the washer and dryer on wood pallets to keep the underneath dry.

Its ok Shyvonne, we've all been there at some point(shyt everywhere) not necessarily a basement, it could be an upstairs, an unused bedroom, a laundry room etc. Paint those walls white, get you some daylight/cool white bulbs, organize the clutter & it will feel so much better going down there. Oh & get you some home defense just don't let the dogs go down until it dries. I'm rooting you on girl!!!😊

This was my first time watching, and I was so motivated! You have it right. One step at a time gets it done. I think you were looking for the words "body doubling." I do this for my kids and always work better when someone does it for me, too. As for being embarrassed, please don't be. Many of us have found ourselves in an overwhelming situation of our own making. The point is that you are doing something about it. That is inspiring 😊 I also wanted to mention that I order a pesticide from Amazon that mixes with water, and you spray it all over the perimeter inside and out. I have used it in the basement, and it kills all the spiders. It's also safe for pets and lasts like 3 months (although I have noticed it works longer indoors). I can look it up if you are interested.

Get those heavy duty shelving units and color code your bins for holidays and then have a list on each shelf unit to coordinate with each bin. And also do a list for your deep freezer also

I feel you. I was afraid of my basement as well, but some white paint and a rug on the dry side and more lighting, and start by sitting through a was and the you go from there.
