Good video thanks I seem to be doing it right... Just dug about 200 ft of ditch after renting the jackhammer. Took me about a week off and on but its a job a young mans job lol. About ready to lay gravel and pipe lets hope it works about to finish the whole basement so much depends on the french drain. Have a small low level area that holds water hoping the deep trench will lower the water level on the main slab.

@jeanalexandre1105
@jeanalexandre1105 2 года назад
the only problem with the corrugated pipe is how do you maintain a pitch to the sump pit. this is why I recommended a 4-in PVC pipe, because it will maintain its pitch
@anthonycovert9113
@anthonycovert9113 15 дней назад
From my understanding pitch doesn't matter as much with corrugated. Water fills the void then falls into the pit.

What's going on outside sounds like downspouts and gutter need addressed with just being on one wall, install sump pump in each corner of basement and it will relieve alot of the hydrostatic pressure, all the years I did basement majority of the problems were gutters, downspouts and not enough grading around the house

I love this plan, but am wondering about how one would seal out water completely from my foundation. I live in an 1880 Victorian with granite and stone foundation. Water flows through some small cracks, which I will likely fill with hydraulic cement. The floors are poured concrete floors in the basement. Can a vapor barrier be used the entire below-grade height of the wall and set behind the mirror drain? I want to completely finish the basement and keep the water and moisture out so that I don't have mold growth. I also presume metal studs may be best? And would I use foam insulation over the vapor barrier? Thanks in advance! 😁👌
@karmatias11
@karmatias11 5 лет назад
You would have to pull all the dirt away from the foundation and install a vapor barrier. Or just add dirt around the perimeter of the house so the water slopes away from the house and make sure the gutters are doing their job.

How much water would you need to see in order to recommend something like this prior to finishing a basement? For example, I get some seepage during a big storm, but no puddles. Another way of asking, I guess, what would make you recommend a perimeter drain instead of Dri-core subfloor or a similar system?
@BasementFinishingMan
@BasementFinishingMan 6 лет назад
Absolutely Rob...a perimeter waterproof system is the only system I install and guarantee for my customers. If you just have a few damp spots and you have block walls I would just paint the walls with DryLock and be done with it and finish away! But...if you have ever had a puddle out on the floor area I woulsn't run the risk of finishing without a perimeter waterproof syatem installed first. If you have concrete poured walls you shouldn't get damp walls at all unless you have cracks in the walls that go all the way through to the outside of the walls...in this case you need to fix the cracks before finishing. Hopw this helps buddy! Eddie

Hi there , I have a leak in one area of my unfinished laundry room. The cinderblocks are just starting to bow and there are cracks in them. You can see the water damage and this was supposed to have been fixed 13 years ago. I’m concerned the last guy did the damage but how do I prove that now! So called him back and he recommended this system and to prevent the wall from getting worse to use the carbon , Kefler strips. Think that’s what they’re called. Can anyone give me any advice? I’m confused and just don’t know what the right thing to do is. Thank you

@albarnett1621 7 лет назад
Pete Cooke yes you could have wrapped the corners with mir drain for a little added protection as well as aesthetics. but its still a good job a little messy with the demo but effective do you focus more on "finishing" basements and such ? I agree, wrap the corners at least 2 ft. I would also suggest if you use the miradrain, that it would be run at least to grade and then sealed to prevent radon gas to Leach into the home. Some counties in Maryland require the system to be sealed because of that very reason.

I'm doing some research on wet basements, and it strikes me as odd that the pipe ur using to catch water is the wrong pipe. you can't put a pipe in with no weep holes to catch the water if the water can't get inside the pipe. It should be the pipe with the holes in it, with a sock to keep out the water right?
@BasementFinishingMan
@BasementFinishingMan 9 лет назад
Paul Sahs Hi Paul! That's True, but the pipe we have in this trench has factory "slits" all through it to let water in...you just can't see it unless your up close to the pipe! :- ) The pipe with the little round holes in it is wrong pipe really, that style pipe lets to much debris from the trench into the pipe which can ultimately cause issues down the road. Thanks for stopping by our basement channel and commenting. Eddie

what are the chances of doing real damage to the foundation or footing from doing this? I fear not backfilling it properly or damaging the footing which could eventually lead to the foundation shifting and cracking possibly.
@BasementFinishingMan
@BasementFinishingMan 7 лет назад
No chance as long as you do not jack-out the footer! Just cutting the concrete floor near the wall and installing a footer drain and then concreting the trench back-shut will not harm you foundation or weaken your walls whatsoever. Eddie
@Parksmasonry
@Parksmasonry 7 лет назад
Sorry, sir, but you are incorrect about no chance of damaging the foundation. The slab in the basement is designed to hold the base of the foundation wall from shifting. This is why international building codes states the slab must be 3 1/2". Unless rebar in coming out of the footing, and the wall poured with cement, then removing the slab holding the base of the foundation wall comes with a risk of the base of the foundation wall shifting, especially with hydrostatic pressure pushing on the exterior of the wall. Ask any engineer.
