Sazae-san is the longest-running anime in history, being on-air since 1969 (Beat that, One Piece). And then Bashame was also voiced by Utena's VA, turning this series into "Gushing Over Nokotan".

Saeze time reference is based off a really old and long running family sitcom anime (basically the Simpsons of Japan.) They are referencing how in a lot of sketch comedy shows without an overarching plot people just stay the same age forever. But here they moved on to another year. There are anime more like western cartoons in that regard but they typically do not get popular with Western Anime fans.

Ii´ve got a very strong suspicion: "What if My Deer Friend Nokotan" is NOT just brainrot but actually makes sense? Just like in "Cautious Hero" where we only learned in the last episodes that Seiya was not a paranoid safety freak but had a strong motive for being overcautious.
