It’s better to start from realism and then progress your way to manga style, with that, you will be able to stylize your faces even more and exaggerate it since you have a good understanding of its structure. In my case, I started doing more of a comic style, then manga, then comic again and now realism..because of this I am having difficulties throughout my art journey, however I am making progress..now that I understand more about the anatomy of the face I’m able to apply more and more detail to my faces OR simplify them and make them look more stylized, it is quite fun. Honestly though, I am not a fan of realistic art at all, in fact I usually only sketch with a pen with no erasing..I’ve been doing this for years now and I’ve gotten used to it, but because of realistic art I’ve improved so I do not regret studying them.

@@reese8050 i def agree with this. starting off with the basic structure as you would see in realism will help you not only in exaggerating faces to fit a certain style, but also to draw those faces in different angles.
