@@Cut2theChaseEntertainment Jason has a video with Kevin from NERD. It's really great. The RU-vid account above is just Donny: who can't normalize audio, can't keep the video up, and doesn't point microphones in the right direction. I wish the newer NERD videos were more like Jason's and less like RU-vid Drama mixed with imitating Joe Rogen. :\

If only my mom would have been supportive in the slightest.. I would of had 20 years of experience by now. She wouldn't let me keep any reptiles.. Amphibians.. Arachnids..just nothing she considered disgusting or dangerous. I always cried growing up not being able to work with these beautiful animals. She knew I studied them and knew everything there was to know in terms of husbandry and natural habitats.. But refused the idea of any animal that wasn't a normal cat or dog. The other thing was if I were to be found keeping any reptile or something.. She said she would kill it no questions asked. I'm 26 now and live in my own house..and can now finally work with the animals and my dreams of becoming a herpetologist. My mom also now after all those years respects and supports me... And apologizes for the past. So I'm really happy that I can move forward. Your videos are really cool and give very good advice to both new keepers and experienced keeper alike. Great job man.

I’m the same way with the humidity in my cages. I’ve found that most gauges don’t really give the whole picture unless you have an obscene amount of them in each cage. Otherwise, you’re really only gauging one small corner of the enclosure.

Jason's Exotic Reptiles Couldn’t agree more! Think about all the old-timers in this business who never had access to such gauges yet had great success in breeding and keeping many different kinds of reptiles. Not saying those gauges don’t have their place. But if that’s all you go by, chances are you’ll run into trouble before too long in the husbandry department.

Thank you for the video. Lots of ball python videos but no so much boas. I’m doing a ton of research for my first snake and really want a boa and want to make sure it gets the best life possible. I have noticed a lot of things are similar as far as husbandry for a common boa and a ball python (temps, humidity, hides). What would you say are some major differences as far as keeping between the two? Amazing video and I’m surely subscribed for many to come!
@JasonsExoticReptiles
@JasonsExoticReptiles 4 года назад
Thank you! I'd say the biggest difference is just the overall snake itself it's going to be more active and overall more hardy and less subject to mettle condition changes that can cause problem. I do not consider ball pythons beginner species for a lot of reasons. I think the main reason they caught on is because of their size, but other than that they are not great beginner snakes. They can be very frustrating at times specifically with eating

OK interesting story... I live in Cambodia and work as an English teacher. We found a baby burmese python in the school I work. ( behind the school is marshy. ) The locals wanted to eat it and I was like I love snakes I had a ball python and a red tailed boa back in the states. I took it home. He/ she / it is eating OK and is going into shed. My concern is the heating. Do they need a basking area? And I don't want to make the hot side too hot. It is like 90° and it feels like 99° AND it is night time. The humidity is naturally at 70%. Because this is there native land I would eventually want to do a zoo outdoor enclosure for it. So what are your thoughts on heating this juvenile burmese python? By the way Great videos. I am enjoying them. From Cambodia.

Another great video Jason and I agree ypur main staple should be some kind of rodent. Now in saying that I do feed my large female ball pythons chicken legs occasionally durring bréeding season I dont know if its because of the bigger bone but to me I find because of the extra calcium my eggs are over all better and it seems to boost the number of eggs. But again its only durring breeding season I do this
@JasonsExoticReptiles

a little off topic with species but related to feeding. my ball is going on 6 months not eating. shes is not emaciated or concave at all. in her first year she ate all the way up to small rats every week then stopped eating in November. she has shed twice since then, both full healthy sheds. honestly i was beginning to worry about obesity and then she stopped eating. when should i worry? she does not look unhealthy her temps are good its just every time i try to feed her a rat shes more trepid of it than the rat is of her. i end up having to euthanize it and stick it in the freezer. i havent switched her to frozen thawed and cant really until i know shes eating again. shes my first snake ive had her a little over a year now. she couldnt have been more than 6 months when i picked her up.

Hey Jason I thinknive watched all your videos and greatly appreciate everything I have got from them. I have a Aztec Sharp Sunglow boa. He has shed consistently and in one piece. This shed cycle after I saw him in “Blue” he has now cleared up for much longer than the first few times and not attempting to get rid of the old. Have you ever experienced this or maybe I'm being to over zealous and just need to give him some more time.

@JasonsExoticReptiles 4 года назад
Assuming all the temps and everything are correct it could be for sure. Usually they dont seek out breeding so I'd be more concerned if there was something off in the caging unless you have a male in the same room. But even then it's odd to ha e a female start cruising the cage

@@JasonsExoticReptiles there is a 3yo male not even 5 ft from her. I have temps set at hot spot 88 and the cool side goes down to 78 that I check with a temp gun. Humidity is normally between 70-75%. And she has been kept like this for 2 years now in this enclosure. About 3 weeks ago my night drop went out so there was no cool off at night for about 4 days while I got another one but she has been not wanting to eat for about 3 months and been pacing for like 6 weeks. I let her out for about an hour 3 times a week, unless she just ate, so she has plenty of time to stretch and explore. Also I was able to get her to eat a smaller then normal meal about a week ago and she had a perfect shed about 2 weeks ago.

Depending on what type of cage you may need to manipulate ventilation and/or add insulation to the cage walls to prevent heat escape. What you do will really depend on the cage
