I have watched many videos over several years for bags. So many have to have a crap ton of gadgets. Your videos are basics. You cover all the basics needed. Without all the gadgets that you won't use and add unnecessary weight. Love the videos. Always come back to get grounded in basics.
Outstanding Dave I saw the first one and you could tell there was a lot of emotion in it. You are a far better man and instructor than the ones that are taking cheap shots at you.
I thought that the previous video was just fine, direct and to the point. Bluntly honest and only slightly sugar coated. Was someone offended? Really? If so, I doubt that they would have emotionally survived an old school up bringing. Just My Honest Opinion! However, I do like the additional gear added to the updated list. Haversack and poncho...very cool, great choices. You're a great teacher Dave and very knowledgeable. The survival, bushcraft, self-reliance community is fortunate to have your dedication. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experience with us.
Dave. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put in to teaching us these skills. I’m sure that there has been someone that your information saved their life. I cannot think of anyone that I have ever met that is so dedicated to helping others. You deserve all of the accolades that you get! I went to your basics class several years ago and it was a highlight of my year. I hope that you always remember that at the core of any of the negative comments is what I call The “J” factor. (jealousy) God bless you, your family, and your business. John.
RESPECT for humility, wisdom, and expertise. Its pleasant to be talked to and not lectured. Your skills and experience are appreciated and legendary. Thank you for listening to what some may call haters when in fact we respect your time vested in learning, implementing, perfecting and teaching your skills
Dave, I'm known far and wide for my knee jerk reactions so to me they are NORMAL! Please just keep on doing what you have always done and educate us with your expertise.
Man, would love to take one(or several) of your classes. Shame Ohio is a long way from Norway. Would also love to see an Amazon shopping list with items you recommend students bring.
Hey, Dave! The 5 / 10 Cs and your gear lists have been the foundation of my kits every time I've taken a step on a trail ever since I first heard about them. I might tweak things based on the situation and as my budget allows me to upgrade, but the foundation is rock solid. With each outing, I understand and appreciate your experience & teaching a bit more. Thank you for blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow. Great video.
Dave Canterbury is the godfather of Bushcraft! I hope to read all his books and take all his classes over time. Being a Bushcraft instructor for a living sparks my interest.
Dave, I've followed you since d's tv. We have shared before. I knew you were hacked. Because I know you would never have such content. Keep up the good work. You have loyal followers that love your advice. Keep it up. Stay outside! Nuttin but luv!
Wifey and I are setting up a Radio Station for Winter Field day on emergency power at a National Forest. We've been gathering gear ect. I purchased a book called Bush Craft 101. It reads so easily! I'm enjoying it! This course looks like something my wife and I would be very interested in. Thanks, and great vid!
This was fantastic Dave! I am coming out for the basic class in 2024 for sure. I didnt notice a tarp in the video. Is that not on the list? I thought for sure we would deploy a ridgeline and tarp.
Something I’ve often thought about, and don’t recall ever hearing until now was the bit about initially getting firewood from further away from your camp.
Question about meds: what about OTC that your doctor recommends such as vitamin D and antacids? Many times insurance companies deny a prescription if you can get it OTC in lower doses. For example, I have to take vitamin D every day to keep my levels up to the minimum. Dr only prescribes a high dose if those levels are severely low.
A very good video and just as good as the previous one. The only thing I missed was the type of Backpack or Rucksack. Again, a very good video and informative. Thanks and stay well and happy
thanks for video Dave ill take a look if you already have them but if you don't think you can make a video on a good way to prep for your classes to help your chances of success
I think you should STAY mad Dave...the people that give you S_ _ T about things are not worth one drop of your sweat man...pay them no mind, as everybody that has watched you for more than 1 video knows that you are one of the good guys and actually care about what you're trying to do....take care man, and thanks for all you do Dave .... Semper Fi .........OnWard........
Periodically, I pull a sample from our deep pantry. Today, I opened a can of reduced sodium Spam… Use By date of June, 2010. (13 years ago). As good as the day it was canned. Kept at 60 degrees year round. Yes… I like Spam.
Why do you use different water bottle caps then the regular ones your bottles come with? Are those klean canteen? Btw. I love your business and what you have to offer.
I’m surprised you mentioned that titanium has some issues with durability. Why is that? I bought two of your pathfinder water bottles. I also have a few pathfinder stainless steel water bottles but I’m surprised about the durability issue
Hey don't forget women and children can do the keep the blade fixed and pull the rod back across the spine trick so they don't have to use as much strength
T-rex 🦖 duct tape is actually the best based on my tests which i used a lifting weight to test which it held but but besides repairs and such I'll warn you that stuff is tuff and very sticky i fell on my butt trying to tug it off my wall 😂 but gorilla is also a great brand and the step down from T-Rex with duck following behind
I have several backpacks and i can only pack this list in my largest backpack (35 letter) due to the wool blankets. Any help packing the 2024 list in a backpack would be much appreciated. Im 10 weeks out from training the basic class.
I get the knee jerk reactions. Its hard to keep your cool when a bunch of idiots keep regurgitating the same nonsense. I'm guilty of posting the same comments. All we can do is try to be better, always.
I wouldn’t go anywhere without a sure way to make fire and at least protection from the Elements but at a Basic level you need more as you become more adapt you need less thanks for giving us an expert opinion do you have videos showing staying 2-3 days in one location with these three items I would enjoy watching them for sure?
