Hi im Jp and with my Partner Karina we will be going over basic steps to cumbia de vuelta, we go threw 3 basic steps, Basic step for cumbia, corners, and foundation. I know these might not be what others call them but here on my page its what I call it. lol
I hope you find this video helpful bc I really want to see more people dancing and not just hopping or walking around the dance floor.
I want to thank my dance partner Karina for taking the time to help me with this project.

Man, as a woman I was always so frustrated with myself not knowing how to dance at parties and just sitting down doing nothing. But I just went to a 15 and decided to get up and dance with some basic tips from my cousin and it felt SO GOOD. I danced at my grandma's house the next day and I was so happy. Now I'm trying to learn more.

I’m grateful my dad showed my brothers and I how to dance when we were kids , he said if you get a bf or gf and you don’t know how to dance your partner will be bored and sad sitting down at the table watching others have fun... so you have to learn how to dance

Try getting heels 2 sizes larger and putting inserts. Also depends on the shoe, high heels can actually be quite comfortable

My wife (from Mexico City) says "You have to feel the music" I have danced many times with The Cumbia Queen (my mom) growing up but she never showed me how to dance using my "hands". So as I am "feeling the music" listening to none other than Selena. I dance in rhythm without "hands" and I feel more free, but when it comes to using "hands" hips and feet I have to really "Pay Attention". My wife is a really good dancer. Cumbia and Salsa. After 20 yrs. I still don't feel totally confident. She still leads but makes it look like I am. Freestyle I am good (so they say). I appreciate this video. I won't stop trying. Thank you very much. We can vary our salsa with these cumbia steps. Both dances share rhythms, not necessarily music, but where we dance, we just move with just the basic rhythm. Or else it's country western all night long.

Juan ! Where you at !? Any more videos in the making ? This Cumbia basic learning video is absolutely great ! I enjoyed your honest humility to help the greater whole learn to dance this basic Cumbia step’s. I enjoyed the work in self - explanation of the dance steps. Coupled with great length in the practice explanation steps and the close ups on the feet. I’d really like to see more dance instructional videos. I noticed the last video was dated 4 years back. Just one step at a time ;).

Great video. I have a question though. How do you know when you are supposed to transition into those other moves? Is there a certain amount of times you do one movement and than switch to the other movement or do you just switch into those other movements when you want to?

Detail oriented person here, the move starting at 4:00, when both partners are putting their foot forward, first her foot goes in between his legs, but then when going back the other direction (when both partners put their foot forward), she then puts her foot on the outside of both of his legs. Doe this matter at all? Is it like, whenever you move to the right the woman outs her foot in the middle and the guy in the outside and vice versa? Or do you just figure it out as you go?

I'm pretty new at this but I look at dancing from a music perspective and I feel you could drastically improve your video by including when each step should be performed during the part of the music: Example (Cumbia normally has a repeating bass part and normally has a slight pause on the & of 1. I don't know if you guys are familiar with rhythms in music but normally I see the dancers perform each step relating to the bass in the song. Idk if it was the editing bc your steps weren't following the beats per min of the songs, maybe just could be an editing problem. Great job on the physical aspect of the dancing though really leaned a couple things.

Orlando thank you Orlando for that info! I wasn't really trying to go on beat or show any rhythm just bc I saw this as an intro to cumbia! Your right when your dancing your going at the best of the music and when the song changes you change your steps! I've looked at a lot of dancing videos and the people look amazing dancing and very coordinated on their steps I wanted to show how to do the steps without worrying about the beat or the rhythm more just the steps! Bc the rhythm will come with more practice of the steps! Im not a professional dancer I've taught a few classes and it's different over video and in person! Thank you really I'm looking at all the critics and I will get better on explaining and the video and song quality ! Thank you and I'm glad you learned something :)
