Great video Steve and really nice to see Greg, haven't seen him for years and he looks to be in great shape still and I hope he's actively riding. I like how he pointed out the proper Carver bushings will center your kingpin and not hit any of the sides of the hanger hole. Proper placement of that Kingpin is crucial and needs to be properly fixed with the right bushings. Probably, 95% of riders aren't aware of that? This is one reason skaters who skate with very loose trucks always keep breaking or cracking their hanger. Again, great video and Gee! I hope you two had a session after this taping. Would be such an honor to Rip It Up! with Greg out on the street since he's one of the original Surfskate Pioneers! 🤯Poof!....hope you filmed it!

The .65 and the .56!!! that unlock so much of my confusion in every pair of bushings i've swapped in, including when I've just take the CX apart and tried to put it back together

Ridiculously helpful. Lol I just picked up a set of Carver CX trucks for a Landyachtz board, and I absolutely love them. But seeing how the system actually works, and more importantly, WHY it works, immediately demystifies it and helps me get nice and comfortable with it.

Excellent comprehensive video! I’ve gone back and forth with cupped vs flat washers since switching my stock CX bushings to the 90a yellow Riptides. I’ve settled with flat washers after experiencing no negative effect on the forward pumping inertia all the while enjoying the increased rail to rail lean. This could be because of the Riptide’s “Higher rebound” formula properties?

I’m purchasing a board with carver cx trucks soon. I’m going to buy the Santa Cruz classic dot pig cruzer and it’s going to be my surf-skate. I thought maybe I should get a big deck to ride for more control and it’s one of the coolest surf-skates I’ve seen. I’m just starting out. I know all about maintenance when it comes to a skateboard. It’s no different other than the front truck being more like a surfboard than a traditional board. That’s my only concern. I’m a little skeptical about balancing the front truck because I don’t have a great sense of balance. I have an ok balance. I can’t hardly manual for more than a few seconds though. I fell off of my surfboard inspired board. I had the trucks turned all the way and I was leaning backwards and yeah I had my knees bent and everything like taking a carve and as soon as I got into that position I fell off. I have most types of skateboards so I know what I’m doing :) I love riding my big one with revenge trucks and yes that’s the one I fell off of trying to do a left hand turn. I was also wondering what are some of the cons to surf skating. I know all about the pros to surf skating.

Hey surfskate love. I followed all your instructions on your website to slush the bolt and nut. Bushing the correct way etc. However my trucks do not have any resistance. It is still shakey and the the washer cup can be swiveled with finger(when bolt and nut flushed)
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
It must not be tight enough. If you can spin the washer with your fingers, it's too loose.

i use like a moog swaybar link bushing on the boardside bushing of my cx because it gives like a heavier resistance but because its tapered and has a lip that fits on the inside of the d hole, it seems to center itself a little faster, but what is the main purpose of the d hole shape? is it to limit the hanger to particular motions?
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
I don't know that it's to limit the motions, but rather that is just how the truck moves.
@felixdepuiseau5756
@felixdepuiseau5756 Год назад
does a reversed kingpin setup affect the "preload" of the bushings? I have a feeling it's not possible to get the front truck as stiff in reverse mode, but it seems unlogical that that would be the case.
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
My guess is that it depends on how tightly you screw the nut.
@novasunskate
@novasunskate Год назад
Experienced same issue as @Fifty Fifty. Both stock and replacement BB from Carver will not stay seated flush against hanger and pop out of seating shortly after install. I'm not heavy at 170 lbs/77.1 kg. Still able to enjoy the board, but geometry is off and effects rebound. Resistance not as consistent through full range of motion.
@novasunskate
@novasunskate Год назад
Also getting divots on hangar where it's contacting the bushing cup and base plate where cup sits. Majority of squeaking comes from pivot cup because pivot point on hanger not twisting on proper plane, grinding at pressure points because pressure not distributed evenly.
@novasunskate
@novasunskate Год назад
Two theories: Urethane not able to hold form in Virginia summer heat and/or pivot cup not firm enough and allowing too much play in geometry, but who really knows.

What about the orangutang nipples and knuckles? The combined height works out the same even tho they aren’t the same recommended carver dims for board vs roadside
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove 11 месяцев назад
The Nipples definitely work as a set. I suppose Knuckles could work, but only if you reverse them from how they're intended (use the .64" gumdrop on boardside and the .59" barrel on roadside). But that would not be ideal.

Hi guys! My original yow bushing creaks awfully on the rear truck, tried different ways to solve, putting some lube helps and the truck get quiet but not for long, it gets out and it creaks again. Will switching to some other bushings help? Does anyone have a problem like this?
@SurfskateLove

Yes, absolutely: surfskate.love/product-category/surfskate-bushings/riptide-yow-surfskate-bushings/ And it's very common.

I’m on my 2nd CX board from Carver (Greenroom and Triton) and both after a few weeks the bushing starts squeaking and bulging out of the seat that it sits in. It also affects the turn because it basically acts the same as tightening the bolt as the resistance is increased and the nut is hard to get off. It seems that the hanger piece is just a bit off so when you take it off an reseat the bushing it fits but as soon as you put pressure on it, it slips slightly and the puts unequal pressure on the busing causing the squeaking and bulging out. I really want to like Carver but this is the second board this has happened on. I have a board with the C5 truck and it seems not to have this issue so maybe a batch of CX are bad?
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
Do you have the taller bushings on boardside and shorter bushings on roadside?
@theaustralianhulk
@theaustralianhulk Год назад
@@SurfskateLove no. I haven’t changed them. Stock from Carver. I did take them out to make sure they didn’t come installed backwards and put it back in place and within a short time starts squeaking loudly and bulges right back out. Super hard to pump too when it gets wedged in there. I got a Carver board for my niece and visited her today and her board now the nut wiggles loose on the CX. Looks like her bushing is holding though lol. Think I’m done with Carver CX. That’s 3 boards with issues. I’m pretty bummed out. Have you not seen or heard of issues? Thanks for the reply

@@theaustralianhulk Maybe lube the busing with some Sil-Glyde or some white lithium grease.

@funkingitup1805 carver ended up replacing the trucks on both boards. Nothing I tried worked to fix them. The new ones were great but not long after I lost interest in surf skating and sold them haha

That is my board on the table (I think it is Resin). What I have problem with is I have to tight my front truck almost every 10 minutes . Why is it getting loose???
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove 11 месяцев назад
I'm guessing the nyloc on your nut is worn out and you need to replace it.
@funkingitup1805
@funkingitup1805 2 месяца назад
We all are guilty of reusing nyloc nuts, but they are really meant to be tightened once, and then left alone. Loosening them tear them up and decrease the back off resistance.
