Hi Steve, just to confirm, these will work on C7 trucks as well correct? Thank you,

@@stevesheffield45 These will only fit the rear of the C7, which is the same as the CX. But they don't fit the front of the C7.

I bought my Carver used so my bushings were a bit crusty and tired kinda like me. I've got the yellow 90 Riptides now and what a difference. First thing I noticed was the smoothness of the carves on the flats. They performed great at the skatepark too- very smooth and nice rebound. It's an excellent upgrade and well worth it for sure, Thanks Steve 🤙

Many thanks @SurfskateLove for this video (and all others 😅) Just purchased and received my Riptide bushings. Fit perfect hardness to firm up my Santa Cruz / Carver C5 Surfskate board and match my weight! Less sensible, more precise. A must with Pivot cups, less vibration and no more noise. Thank you! ❤

Would you say that Riptide pivot cups have loosen or tighten the CX feeling ? Or just more lively or quicker return to center ? I plan to test them. 15€ in France for those little babies. ÉDIT : Riptide pivot cups tested,they give an amount of spring and a bit of precision, maybe with tightening a bit the ride, lively, the difference is true but 15€ is really too pricy for them, they should cost the half.

Great initiative again from Steve. I discover CX trucks and my target is to use them in pumptrack. That said i've been happily surprised with Carver stock bushings in pumptrack. I'm 69kg so i've ordered pink (87,5a). In pumptrack they are a bit too loose for me, let say i would keep them for riding on flats, and if i would order others, i would choose the yellow for pumptrack. As shipping cost are an issue to France, i plan to mix Carver CX stock bushings board side and Riptide pink road side. An interesting conversion for bigger Riptide bushings, i've just mounted them road side on Arsenal 165mm trucks on a longboard, and it feels lively, but it's more about land paddling-carving than surfskating. Good initiative Steve. Olivier from France.

Thanks, great video Steve and gratulations on creating this product for the community. Even though the cone bushings are what the Carver CX & C5 require, have you considered offering barrel bushings as well? Some setup freaks like to use barrel road side and cone board side. Although, two cones will offer the best turn-a-bility as a surfskate should be in most circumstances. Good going offering 2 bushing and 4 bushing packs.
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
Thanks, man! We may consider that in the future. But my big priorities at the moment are Carver C7, YOW, and Waterborne. YOW is easy because they use standard street cones and barrels, which RipTide already has. So I'd say we'll start looking at more advanced options like that once we have standard options available for all the top surfskate trucks.

Just ordered a Yellow 4 pack. I still have a un-opened Carver bushings set labeled as firm. I’ll be interested to see the difference between the stock CX/C5 bushings, the firmer set I have sitting in a package, and the RipTides I keep hearing so much about. I’ll interchange these on the two trucks sets I ride (CX & C5) and see what transpires!

After one year of using pink Riptide bushings (87,5a) on CX, i've just switched to 92,5a on the rear, 90a on front. With 87,5a, i had to press them a bit too much, about 3 bolt thread over the knut on front, and similar on rear. With new 92,5A on rear, i let the knut flush. With 90a on front, i just let one bolt thread over the knut. Tested for flat slalom practice with cones and bowl, i felt a good amount of rebound. I had hesitation to buy 92,5a as i'm relativley light (69kg), but my today test in park let me think that it's interesting, even for flat slalom cones, the turning radius is more in my technique that in the bushings, and i felt the relaunch of speed at the end of the turn more efficient than with 87,5a. I dampen this analysis by the fact that i compare one year of 87,5a use with new 90a and 92,5a, but anyway, i don't feel the board too locked or with a lack of lean, and the increase of speed/stability looks great to approach new lines with more speed and confidence. I'll test in pumptrack soon with no big surprise in perspective, as there are no short curves in pumptrack, a higher stability/bushings rigidity should boost a bit the speed. With 34'Soulboardiy deck and new Surfskatelove wheels 70mm 84a, this set up is really great to go a step ahead in my skills progression, especially in park.

If you want a snappier livelier ride these bushings seem like a good option. For anyone chasing a loose surfy flowy ride, just grease your cheap $2 bushings with any automotive, polylithium, or Marine grease and you will get max performance out of them. On RKP trucks, if you flip the top cup washer under the nut and completely remove the bottom washer against the baseplate, and grease the bushings, you'll cheap bushings will ride super smooth and ride amazing.
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
I've done that and you're right that that does make a difference. However, RipTide bushings still feel much better.

I recently got a carver cx and the stock bushing feel decent Is it really that much of advantage going to those yellow replacements? Also do you think a softer bushing is better in the front and a harder one in the back in your experience? I weight around 250 and the stock ones held up fine should I try the reds or just go double yellow?
@SurfskateLove

You will notice a huge difference going from stock Carver bushings to Riptide bushings. If you like the stock bushings at your weight, I would recommend that you try the RipTide bushings in both 90a and 92.5a. Have fun!

Hi Steve! I just got a blue RipTide set and tested it yesterday for the first time. It's awesome! But I forgot to grease it with a tea candle as you recommended and did it after the ride. The condition of new bushings after a +/- one hour of riding surprised me: black Carver's stock ones look like brand new in comparison to used just once RipTide. Probably I did anything wrong however I was trying to follow your instructions: kingpin nuts are tighten just to be flat with the bolts. I'm 65-70kg, so I admit that frankly speaking the blue set is a little bit softer for me than needed. And nothing bad occurred with a track - all is fine. I just want to ask for your advise - if you have any info regarding those sets durability - how long they are supposed to live? Thanks!
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove Год назад
Hey man, RipTide bushings actually shouldn't require any wax. I don't put any on mine and I don't get any squeaking. And they should last you forever. Although it sounds like they're probably too soft for you, so that may impact that.

I'm currently using the stock CX bushings but after about 5km they start to squeak like hell. I usually maintain it by putting some grease and oil on both bushings, AND the pivot cup as well. Any suggestions for maintenancr once I upgrade my bushings to the dark blue ones?

You shouldn't get any squeaking from RipTide bushings. If you do, a thin layer of lithium grease works well.

Hey mate, just bought a pair of carver cx trucks. Tried them with the stock 89a bushings and they feel way too loose (even looser than my smoothstar thrusters, which I find strange). I use bones 96A on my Indy trucks for traditional bowl skateboarding. I’m thinking I should try riptide APS 92a for surfskating? What do you think? Thanks
@santiagoc79

bit more info... I'm 170 lbs and 6ft tall. I probably spent 2 years skating bowls with a regular skateboard (indy trucks hard bushings). Can do some good lines that I wouldn't even dare to try with my CXs. The thought of dropping in with them freaks me out....maybe I just need some time to adjust? That's me at my local bowl (7ft shallow-12ft deep end) a few years ago (I had a long break when my kids were born) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gklM216uH-M.html
@SurfskateLove

I'm honestly totally shocked by that and it makes me wonder if there's something wrong with your CX. I can't imagine a CX feeling looser than a Smoothstar Thruster unless something was wrong.

Haven’t modified the stock settings, a couple of threads showing on the front kingping, back one is flush. I was using both riser pads, I’m going to try them with one only and 90A wheels instead of 97A. Maybe that helps

I’m confused. I ordered these from Riptide as I wanted a firmer feel on my C5 truck (of course before seeing this video). I thought the 95a would be a step up because on the Carver site it says they are 92a. Sounds like you were saying they are 89a. Is the Carver site incorrect? For the CX it says 89a but not the C5. Also looks like the C5 is a conical and a barrel 😢

I just used a Shore A durometer gauge to measure mine and I get 89a, same as CX. Carver has a lot of things wrong on their website.

@@theaustralianhulk the C5 trucks are still high end in their field of use (compact street-/surf skate hybrid). Just find the right durometer for your weight and you will have a killer setup! if you want to step up a notch try the c7 system, but it is a bit heavier.
