Learn how to kong, one of the most essential moves for beginners. Sorry i couldn't find anything bigger to show you a real kong over, but practice on a small thing to start off with moving onto larger things when you get over your fear of diving at a table.
EDIT
I have been getting alot of comments about the takeoff...i like the 2 foot method, and i use the 2 foot method and think you all should to...its more controlled and looks nicer...but if you want you can do a 1 foot method...this means rather than plant you take off 1 foot with a jump, although this lowers your body so you cant go as high even if you can go faster because it's easyer to keep momentem(which leads to problems in itself)

Generally, getting your legs parallel to the object is fine for most obstacles. If you want to get some height, you can either kick your other leg up or simply use the two-foot punch takeoff. It's difficult to get a lot of height with the split-foot takeoff when you first start using it.

Thats what all the bouncing on the end is for, it gives you the confidence to know that u'll make it

If your going to a really quick progression between jumps, one foot. but if your wanting it to look controlled and clean or doing it into something like a cat or prescision, then i think two foot would be better. it is also indivudal to each person in how they feel is best to do it and how they feel comfortable.

Usually I swing my arms forward in a lunge while taking off. It helps improve the dive momentum.

fence is a broad word, really practice wherever as long as you can jump the thing, its not 2 high or short and its stirdy as well. Make sure as well for it 2 b a kong you jump and then place your hands down

Seriously, I've been seeing this move for a few months now and I thought that would be so damn useful to know how to do, but I delayed doing it. So now I can do all these super badass moves, but I can't do this, one of the most basic parkour moves... damnit, now i must go learn it. Thanks for the video, it explains it better than most.

Man, thanks for that tutorial! I usually don't find tutorials on how to overcome fear in English. By the way some people take off with two feet, but you can also do it your way.

ahhhh I remember the day I first landed a kong. It was over a little one foot tall bench. Me and my friend were training and we were thinking of how to overcome the fear for months. the bench was at some woodchips. He went for it first and fell. He flipped out like OMG I ALMOST LANDED IT and I went for it on my first time I got it. To think that was amazing to me and now I can do it over pic nic tables

lean a lot further forward, this will bring you legs up abling you to clear larger objects.

learning the kong was a bitch but i found that standing in an open area and keep diving to your hands and pushing yourself back to your feet helps increase your confidence and arm strength. that way you can dive farther and higher, try it it helps.

@ParkourHero123 For longer obstacles, use a one foot take off. It gives you more forward momentum to help you clear the obstacle. For higher obstacles, use a two foot take off.

@Bigheadet I think that your problem can be solved by simply stop touching the obstacle just before your legs get between your arms, I mean if you're trying to pass your legs between your arms but leaving your arms in the obstacle then that's a cat leap-Dash. @sunshinestuntdub that's because you need to lift more your hips, you can achieve this by jumping with one foot in front of the other and finally pulling with your arms but to the front, not downwards (hope to be usefull :S)

well it depends on if you want to be a traceur or free runner. if you wanna do parkour then jus perfect your vaults and parkour in general, (no flips) but if you want to free run then by all means practise flips. i like to try both as free running does look good. but its not practicle for getting from A-B.

in fact, jump with both feet will kill your speed this method just for beginners. when you have mastered the kong, you should jump with one foot and you will get more momentum to get over a longer higher obstacle with the kong.
@Jhakaro
@Jhakaro 15 лет назад
Oh yeah just so people know you don't have to push off with two feet generally for the monkey vault you do but for the Kong Vault most traceurs actually push off with one foot for distance and speed while sprinting into it although you can push off with two feet as well! :D
@ParkourBlog
@ParkourBlog 15 лет назад
Somewhere you have got very confused. The kong is not a 'tiger jump' i can be called a 'salle de chat' (aka 'cat jump/leap' in english) but it is what the tutorial says it is. The jump you described doesn't really sound like a real parkour movement - it is ineffective. You me trying to describe a speed vault, but i'm not sure (no vaults have straight legs when going to the side, slows momentium).
@IzonTheGnome
@IzonTheGnome 15 лет назад
I would recommend jumping off one foot to get the splay. This will also help you with your distance Diving Kongs and it will help you advance much faster. Jumping off 2 feet was my biggest problem to get over. Just an idea. To see what Im talking about look up "Progression of the Kong" by UndeadZarlin.

@ParkourHero123 Big run up, and it took me like 50 attempts toget it perfect, try taking of from one foot for long obstacles and two feet for high obstacles
@ParkourBlog
@ParkourBlog 16 лет назад
speed is not as important as form...or saftety any time i do it with 1 foot, i'm running fast enough that my single foot cant stop and i smash my knees into the table, my technique also uses blocking to transfer speed to power....read the description section on this if you have time

@sunshinestuntdub I remember when i was trying the kong. Couldnt do them for my life. Simalilr problem to you. Keept trying tho, and i got it after a while. I had to work hard for it but i got it. Im good at them now Try tilting your head more forward and coming in at more of an angle. Your jump should be as powerful as possible to start with, it should get your hips as high as possible and this will help you clear the obstacle. Hope this helps :-)
@SuperCrazyRoy
@SuperCrazyRoy 14 лет назад
the best is when you put your legs separated one in front and one behind it lifts more your hips and is more unlikely that your knees will touch the obstacle but you need more speed to reach the end of the table with that method and i don't like the 2 feet method because it slows me down and i don't know what you mean by the 1 foot jump, that's for the dash isn't it?

ParkourBlog, where are you guys from? Two foot take off's don't look anything as good as a split foot, and splitfoot take offs are with two foot also. How long have you been parkouring? I've personally been into pk for about 5 years, and strength training for about 3 of them. And the only way to truely kong is with a split foot take off. I'll make some tutorial videos this summer, because - no offense - i have found none that show proper form for most efficient jumps and greatest distance.

@avneet06
@avneet06 15 лет назад
You guys' seem to know you're stuff but i'd suggest remaking this video using a split foot take off. The two foot take off slows down momentum by such a great factor that it's almost pointless to teach it. I normally just teach people the split foot right off the bat. just incase you're unsure: split foot take off is when you swing your arms, and you're feet should be staggered, and the run is not interrupted during the kong. Also you're feet should land in split also. -Brownpk (pkto)

its the speed vs safety debate, i can block, so spilt foot and regualar foot gets the same speed to me, and the risk with split foot is slipping and smacking yourself on the obsticle you are trying to kong...I like my 2 foot and block method, it works, you can do what you want
