I plan on making a second anatomy video in the future where I focus on the orchid plant itself. Let me know if you are interested in seeing this, or whether you have any other topics on which you wish to see a video!
Thanks! You mean promoted? I post links to my videos on a fb orchid page, on a orchid forum, on my instagram, and on reddit. And sometimes send links to my family via whatsapp. It definitely makes a huge difference, about 35% of views on this video, for example, come from external links.
Hi Jimin, sorry for the super late reply! Actually yes, but in a way which is different from most flowers. They have less stamen, filaments, anthers, style and stigma and fused into a single structure - the collumn.
@@OrchidNerd Hi, thanks for the video (very helpful)! Would you have any recommendations of articles or anything about the uses and formation of all those structures (columns, callus etc) ?
So I have a silly question. Why are the Sepals and the Petals labeled differently. to me they look like the same thing, do they serve different function or is it simply that they grow from slightly different points on the flower?
Nothing silly about your question! They do indeed grow from slightly different positions, with the sepals positioned behind the petals. They also have a different function. The sepals, being the outer layer of the flower, protects the bud as it develops. The tender petals and column are enclosed by the sepals, and develop under their protection against cold and injury. In many flowering plants, the sepals are simply green and it's purely the job of the petals to attract pollinators, but in orchids the sepals are coloured as well and assist in this function.
