Basic Pencil Shading..Big Rocks In A Landscape With PENCIL | Pencil Drawing | Step by step 

I am 58 years old and I just returned to the world of sketching about a year and a half ago. As a kid, I used to spend hours drawing and as the older, I got the further away I got from doing something creative. Now that my life has become a bit simpler I found myself wanting to wake up that artist in me. This is the second tutorial I have completed with Paintlane I have to say I am amazed at the results. I wanted to write a review on my experience with his/her method of teaching. At first glance, I was very skeptical at the possibility of drawing something that even resembles this wonderful sketch. What I had to do was slow the video down to .025 even still had to draw in small pieces. I was very comfortable doing the initial layout. Yeah, this will be easy then came to the shading working right to left as I am looking at the paper. I got to about the center of the picture and the shading became a bit more detailed, still, I was up to challenging my beginner skills. After a lot of trial and error with plenty of erasing I was happy with the results. Moving on to the left basically doing a series of short lines my skepticism returned, thinking how is this going to produce anything. In a matter of a couple hours, I started to see for myself just how using the right lines in the right directions and right kind of pencil pressure it will produce the illusion of the mountainside. Thinking it was all downhill from here I began doing the foreground. This became my most challenging and the most fun part of the picture. I gain new skills in shading from the previous parts and I could see those results shine through on the foreground. When the video got to around 12:40 it seems like it was getting too cluttered so I skipped forward to12:47and continued to follow along to the end. Was this tutorial easy to follow .......................................Yes Did this tutorial challenge my skills ................................ Yes Did I find this tutorial educational and fun ......................Yes Will I continue with more tutorials from Paintlane..........Most Definitively Would I recommend Paintlane to others..........................In a heartbeat I am amazed at my own ability to do this sketch. Now, I like the idea of being taught to draw without having to even say a word. My picture isn't exactly like this artist's work is and I don't think it's supposed to be. This tutorial was everything and more then what the title claimed it to be. The pencil strokes are definitively easy. It challenged my beginner skills which is something we need if we want to advance in any endeavor. Bring along your patience and your vision to see the bigger picture and I am sure you find this tutorial worth the while. The materials I used were: Staedtler Mars Lumograph 2H, 3B, 5B, HB, 2B (into the the tutorial I was finding out I could have used just the 2H, HB and 3B Kneaded Eraser and Huhu Battery Operated Eraser Strathmore 400 series 14" x 17" 60 lb paper
