My favorite Latin Ballroom "demo" video. I've probably watched it hundreds of times, each time getting something else out of it. The nuance, the connection, the "breathlike quality" between the partners... This is dancing! Great song to go with it too!
I've been watching this since old times too. Always liked their routine and quality but now every time i begin to notice common mistakes. And tis fact can't disappoint me. Such a couple make mistakes too
Anybody who dances at any level appreciates art like this. Of course 95 percent of the people have no clue how difficult is to master a technique like this.
I have seen competitive dancers practiced basic Rumba walk for an hour before starting practicing any routines. It all comes down to the fundamental techniques practicing within these basic routines. All complex routines are built upon these fundamentals. So persons think this is basic and easy are persons who don't know ballroom dances at all.
Making complex choreography look good is one thing but making basic choreography look so amazing shows and requires a superior talent which this couple has. Amazing I love it
i cried every time francos and oxana's rumba. it's so sensible...... and music every time is great.. i can't say with words whats going on with me when i see them dancing rumbaa.. perfect
Thank you for writing down their first routine, but I have to admit something: 2. starts with the "Alternative Basic Movement". The last step of Cucarachas is always closed on 4 1. In this case 4 1 is taken to the side
A joy to watch and one of the most difficult dances to master! Those of u who enjoy latin dances, check out Michael Wentink and Beata. Their dancing is flawless and their choice of music, superb!
Dancing lessons this evening. This video is my inspiration. I have watched it dozens of times, but I'll never get fed-up with it. I recognize most of the moves, but one can only aspire to make it look like this (no chance). This pair are sensational! Poetry in motion! Technically superb! Perfection! And the music is beautiful!
It is wonderful the dance from Franco and Oxana. I love to have their moves. I am learning and practising all day and wish one day to have movement like that. You are my role models who I want to become. Thanks so much. Sean Le - Australia.
With the basics such as Alemana, Cucaracha, Aida, New York, top spin etc. practiced and practiced, with the Cuban Motion figure eight understood and used continously every day. I could see Formica to be successful very soon. He had this training just right at his beginner's stage, never picked up some previous professional's bad habits, he already danced better than the current world champion who had no good education ! I showed this Vid to my ex dance instructor of 6 years . We watched it twice. Then went onto the floor & Did it exactly,& loved it Its very simple & stylish Its a V .G Basic routine.Thank you Franco & Oxana.
Second, the "picture & frame" is one of the first concept I was taught when I first started dancing. I'm a guy so I'm the frame, the leader, the holder and support for the picture (the woman). When you look at a framed picture, your focus is on the picture not the frame, that's why it's called a picture not a frame. Same as "ballroom dancing", the lady is the focus & central to the dance. Without that focus the partnership is weak even with a male dancer with strong excellent abilities.
Thank you so much for this. We are at a very basic level yet but seeing this we can see how beautiful and expressive the final dance can become. Could watch it all day.......
I absolutely love & respect their dancing and the hard work that must have gone into acheiving this level of professionalism. Yet a part of me wants to shout out "For God's sake get a room you two!".
Fantastic and inspirational video Rumba variations that will inspire dance students for years. So much to work towards emulating and achieving packed in one short video! Very challenging and very motivating. Thank you Franco and Oxana!
Whenever he grabs her hand, it’s so gentle and graceful, but you can tell solid, giving her firm support to execute her turns and waves. 🙌🏽 .. Watch his hands!
I was able to learn from Franco!!! He came to Vietnam for a week and he taught talented dancers the skills and needs of dancing including musicality it was great
So classic and so beautiful choreography. If you ask me, the basic moves are the best to see which couple has the best dance technique. Open dance program often brings great moves and attractive turns and sometimes messy choreographies but technique is still the basis and it shouldn't be neglected.
Yes. You are the Frame and the lady is the Picture ! Enjoy the nice music as you dance..... Rumba is my favorite dance. She shines ... You shine ! She turn .. You turn and vice versa.
Formica came from Corky Ballas and Shirley Rich's systemastic teaching, added Donnie's Burns SNAP timing, plus Slavik's figure eight Cuban Motion. Wow ! the end result is close to perfection. I think Formica has a very bright future ahead of him ! George Wu, AIA 2012-5-23
The rumba developed during the second half of the nineteenth century as a secular alternative to sacred African-derived drumming traditions in Cuba. The rumba was banned or severely limited on several occasions throughout the late nineteenth century.
4:16 - After Franco stops Oxana in Open Facing, he leads her into an Opening Out to Fan with him going into a sort of deep Lunge Line right before Oxana goes into fan. This is almost like championship-level type of International rumba they are doing!!!!
Third, I'm following Oxana in this video and see Franco as the leader and support for her. The man who allows his woman to be the focus is a man confident in his own abilities. Franco & Oxana were a very strong couple because Franco was confident in his abilities to lead Oxana in every dance. They were top five in the world. Unfortunately, like in a marriage, happy people do get divorces & everybody say "what". Franco & Oxana, a strong & perfect couple, no longer dance together.
@slam5: If you speak of Allan Tornsberg & Serena Lecca, they are no longer a couple and no longer compete, and they are not really young in the way I think you mean it. They started dancing together Feb. 1999. They last competed in the 2002 European Latin Championship, and ended their partnership shortly afterwards in May 2002. Further, they cannot be 3rd rank if they are no longer together. These two were on of my favorites, but more especially Serena.
Such a beautiful rumba with incredible development of basic figures over the 3 dances! We are creating tutorial videos to teach people how to dance these routines!
First, I agree with the man's artistic part but a strong man's frame is still required whether a beginner or pro. A strong frame does not mean a wooden one. It means the man (with artistic flair as you put it) is able to lead the woman in the dance. It's not a dance of equals in the sense of abilities, it's a partnership. each dancing their part, the man the man the woman the woman, regardless of dancing abilities.
This video was made when Franco/ Oxana were in their heydays...3 stages according to their respective levels...did you see Franco's fantastic rumba hip action
Cheers for the Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (do a google search)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.
This is not really basic rumba. They are using basic rumba steps at the beginning but the techniques and styles they are using are more at the professional level ! :)
@frewerage Na, their hips and shoulders moving is NOT excessive at their level. your teacher may had told you not to think of hip movement is because of most beginner try generate hip movement by "throwing" out to left and right. their hip action is generate by knee action and separation of their rib cage and their hip.
