1 card: - energy of the day - gratitude card - who or what can i embody today 2 cards: - release and receive - doing well, could do better - do this, don't do this 3 cards: - within, without, advice - you, me, we - beginning, middle, end of the week - past, present, future - pros, cons, advice - what to expect, what to do, outcome - think, say, do 4/5 cards: - - elemental spread (earth: practical environmental aspect, air: mental aspect, fire: actions, passions, water: emotions, 5 card: holistic view, advice) Did this for myself as a note, hope it can help anyone :)
Love this! Creates new questions to ask. I normally tend to do past, present and future to read for myself and my friends - but this is a very good practice tip!
Great video. Going into my favorites. I'm not so new and I favor the Celtic cross, *and* in not huge on using all kinds of spreads. But I really appreciate the variety of really simple spreads here. They feel very very usable and useful.
When you start with these, as a beginner, are you up to your eyeballs in books or are you trying to feel ya way through and trust that ya intuition is kicking in?... I’m caught in limbo at the moment...frustrated at having to flip through the books and doubting I’ll ever getting into a flow here...I’ve had my tarot cards for over 20 years 🥴😬... brilliant vid by the way 🙌🏼 My two daughters are down under...hoping to join em one day 💫💞 many blessings.
Hello! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I made another video a while ago that might help a little :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8pXJumB48m0.html
I haven’t looked for another video to maybe explain what I’m asking, but how do you know what to say someone other than yourself and how is it so accurate, where everyone is saying the same thing? And I know exactly who you mean?
The very first "spread" I learned was to shuffle your deck, find The Fool, and the card above it was the cause of a problem and the card above it was the solution to it. It's actually been really beneficial for me and my friends who ask me for readings,
MusicandLaughs The way I’ve seen it is that the one below it is the problem, and the one above it is the solution, but I’ve also seen it the other way. So I’d say which ever one you feel fits ! :)
Hi, I'm new to all his so this is probably a silly question but I really like the sound of your idea, and would like to ask for some clarification please as I'm not sure which way to read it as I always thought that you should have the back of the cards towards you before pulling them, and in that way the card 'above' is the one with the face-side facing the back of The Fool. Oh dear. Not sure I'm even explaining this well. I hope you see what I'm trying to say. By 'the card above The Fool', do you mean the card that comes before it when you are looking through the pack i.e. with all the 'faces' towards you ? And then, the 'card after the fool', which I think you mean to be the 'solution' would be the one "below" it ? Is that correct ? Thanks for your time.
The Delattres No worries! It can get a little confusing! So by “the card above The Fool” I mean when you are looking through the deck with the faces towards you. If that does help, here’s another way to put it. “The card above The Fool” means when you are looking through the deck with the images facing you, the card that comes before it. Hope this helped some more ! Sorry if it didn’t
earth : finances or living space air : mentally what's going on / mental space fire : passion; sexuality water : emotional realm ; piece of advice ; or what spirit guides wants to say
I’m a beginner and I like to do ‘the wheel of the medicine spread’. You start with East(spiritual), South (emotions), West (Health), North (intellect), Middle (Soul). I learned this spread from a book of Colette Brown and its very helpful for me.
Hi. Just a quick note. This is "The Medicine Wheel Spread" North (Mental), South (Physical), East (Spiritual), West (Emotional) and the center/middle: Heart (Guidance). This is a Native North American spiritual symbol. Medicine wheels are typically stone structures with an outer wheel joined to a central point with a series of spokes. But thank you for bringing this spread up. It is a great spread to use.

I love the spreads you presented, and I wanted to toss out one more option. I found the 'Know Thyself' spread not too long ago and I've found it to be incredibly useful. It's a 3 card spread and the positions read: 1. Who am I? 2. What do I need? 3. How do I go about meeting my needs? I like that it centers me and helps me isolate me wants from my needs, and I've found that what I need often involves improving the world around me rather than focusing in on the creature comforts that I would have potentially identified on my own.
I started out with Celtic Crosses..lol. I think I'm going to start doing 3 card spreads more. Just because I work 7 days a week. One reading really does seem to drain me. And I still don't have all the cards meanings memorized yet. Still looking them up but have found my intuition really helps me now. Going to try some of these spreads out.
I just did the release and receive reading. I got the empress as a release and the tower to receive. First i got shook (I'm a begging and the tower... Ugh... Made me a lil bit frightened). But i actually realized that I was trying to look perfect in the last weeks for someone to like me (my crush) and I consciously felt that this is not the right thing to do. So i let go of perfectionis. And for the tower, I understood that I have to recieve a change of letting go of the habit of building a tower of different and scary possibilities that are in my head. Some sort of rapunzel getting out of the gritty tower.
This is a GREAT video and you are awesome at explaining all this! I have had oracle and tarot decks sitting here with no clue how to use and I now have a starting point. I am 68 so the thought of doing this was intimidating. Now, thanks to you, I am excited about it! Thank you very much
Hello, friends! I totally neglected to mention that the beautiful deck used in this video is the Textured Tarot by Lisa McLoughlin. I’ve done a first impressions and full walk through of this deck, which you can find here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_JzElAJZh0I.html
Hi Katey, what a beautiful deck of cards, thank you for displaying their title here, it definitely got my attention's; thank you for the good advice!!!
Aamena M You can do it however suits you, your location, and your experience best. Going clockwise starting with the top, I personally use Water, Fire, Air, Earth, but I encourage you do consider what resonates with you.
Hey there, I LOVE your channel and have learned so much. I created a full tarot deck, and would love to send you one to see if you might be interested in doing a review? Let me know how I should proceed! Thanks, Wyatt Hesemeyer www.thelinedefined.com Instagram @thelinedefined
Did the card of the day: Got: the heirophant > mentor or teacher > hunger for knowledge Wow. This is accurate to my plans for the day. I was planning on studying runes and tarot deeper, and to practice them physically and spiritually. Damn. Thanks, Heirophant.
I just bought my first deck today and was sad bc I thought I’d have to learn a bunch of stuff before I could use them. Your video has inspired and empowered me! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Possibly stupid question, how exactly do you pull cards? Are you supposed to take them from the top of the deck or spread them out and pick from the middle?
Thank you so much for the information! I'm starting my oracle journey this month and I'm a beginner myself, trying to see how I can work with my cards effectively. Just happened to find your videos! This is very easy to digest :') thank you!
I've just started w tarot and every time someone let's me read for them for the first time , I use the past, present and future spread. It's always such a beautiful and relatable reading !!!
Thank you so much for the video! I struggle on what to ‘ask’ my deck so these spreads are really helpful. I started journaling about my card pulls to help understand the card meanings and what I get from them. I wrote down a few of these spreads that I’d like to try so I can put them in my journal!
1. Energy of the day - one card read 2. Release and Receive - two card read 3. The classic - Past, Present, Future - three card read These three are my focus (bread and butter) reads. Truthfully, I don't know how to properly address most of the other reads
Ok. This is a free Tarot class on your channel. What about those folks who want to do donations to you on Patreon as a form of appreciation for any of your particular video/s. For example this one. Please considere it. You have no idea how much you have given me through your videos. For instance with your kind approach to Tarot and making everyone feel included. ❤️🌹
I like the elemental spread. The things is , clients come anxious for divination , the outcome and demand more information 😆 can put you under pressure
Katey thank you, I’m still learning tarot and I’ve not known where to start for the best with layouts, this has been brilliant thank you. You’ve made it sound so easy as I think in my head it was making it too complicated. But now I feel confident enough to try some spreads without worry thank you🙏🏼💕💕💕
You're such a beautiful person within & externally, it's noticeably very beaming! I truly appreciate this video, thank you so much. :) 💞 I've been very excited to start my first reading for myself, but feel the only best question to ask, when doing a reading for yourself must've been, "What would the Universe like for me to openly know?" But these tips definitely helped, thanks again!
I'm so excited to have found this! This is exactly what I've been searching for! I wrote down every single spread you showed and can't wait to try them
Thank u so much so easy when u exsplne it for me as im a bigner and it all lookt so hared on over vidoes and go in to to much things u loes track on whot ur doing but with ur vido it was spot on for me to do thank u from venus
A few of my favorite beginner spreads: Strength and Weakness Shuffle and find the strength card, the card in front is your strength and the card behind is your weakness. Rid and Keep Shuffle and find the Death card. The card behind it is something you need to leave in the past and the one in front is what you should strive for. Crossover Pull two cards, the first card represents you in the present, then pull a crossover card which is something that needs your attention, either what is holding you back or what you need to appreciate more. I generally don’t read inverted cards but especially for these spreads I get better readings just taking the meaning for face value.
*PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING:* I've gotten a lot of questions about the elemental spread, particularly regarding the order of the cards. I deliberately left this open because everyone associates the elements with the directions differently according to tradition, location, etc. So, I would encourage you to do what works for you - there is no right or wrong, just decide before you pull the cards. Personally, I use Earth for the left-hand card, or with the Westerly direction, and Air, Fire, Water respectively going anti-clockwise from there. Also, I neglected to mention the name of the deck featured in the video. It is the incredible *Textured Tarot by Lisa McLoughlin.* You can see my full walkthrough of this deck here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_JzElAJZh0I.html And don't forget you can find a brief text break down of all of these spreads on my blog: www.kateyflowers.com/blog/tarot-spreads-for-beginners
not sure if you'll see this, but for the elemental spread do you deliberately pull cards with the suits that correspond to each element or am i just looking too deeply into it? thanks for the vid!
I just started tarot reading for myself with a 3 card spread Past, Present, Future to test the waters. Im relieved that Im connected with my cards indeed but after that, I was clueless of what kind of spread I’d do next then I found your video. I was led to you more than anyone’s here on YT. Thank you so much for your generous information. It was in depth. You answered more than the questions I had in mind. This is really helpful for my Tarot Journey! Love & Light! 🙏🏻✨
Totally liked this video! Will try to make readings to myself through the day- I bought my first deck but I have only thrown them to my self couple times - thank you!! 🇲🇽
I’d love an intermediate version of this video and then maybe advanced? Spreads you use for shadow work, general, etc. that would help so much! This video is great and made me want the textured tarot that much more
I really enjoyed this video! I am just starting in tarot and was feeling overwhelmed and intimidated! This has given me both manageable and interesting tools! A real boost! Thank you!
The world of tarot can definitely be a bit overwhelming and intimidating when you’re new! That’s part of the reason I think keeping things simple can be really helpful. Enjoy your early steps - it’s an exciting time!
This video has been so helpful Katey, as a beginner (reader) i get overwhelmed by what different cards mean in different positions and ive found that simple spreads like yours are really helpful.
My card card spread 1.Past 2.Present 3.Future 4.(If its bad)How to prevent I know its kind of obvious and simple but if you haven't tried it, its really useful.
At Stone Henge now just doing my first card reading and this video very handy to get started off! Looking forward to getting to know my cards, building up confidence and progressing to next lessons. Thank you :)
I've heard one the poison the antidote the cure? Something like that. When I began I did not like the Celtic cross. I actually got out of my comfort zone by doing spreads. Usually people try not doing them to get out of their comfort zone. Great video
Since i study astrology, i associate it with the cards that make sense in astrology. i think this is going to help me learn far more quickly. i dont use the associations i see most people making. For example, i associate the Devil card with Leo, not with Capricorn. Capricorn is a sign of self restraint, reservedness, abstinence, self discipline, patience and even wisdom... its the exact OPPOSITE of the devil card. Leo is the sign that matches the Devil card.
Hi I'm thinking of buying my first deck. My first inclination honestly is to start shuffling and talking to the person I'm reading for and connect what I'm seeing in the deck with the energy I'm getting....then building a spread from there- whether I wanna do a past, present future or Do, Dont do etc. Is that smart to do to or in other words: Do or Don't do? Im thinking the first card that pops out will be my card of the day or Attention card if you will.
Hi! I loved your video. I only found you recently and am a new subscriber, so far I love your videos. You mentioned a few times sexually and, maybe I'm the wrong generation but love the idea, I can't figure out which card in the tarot talks about sexuality. I would love to know, as I said, my generation did not speak about these things. I don't know if I am the only person but I would love to know which cards reflect answers or give advice about that, and I don't mean pregnancy, I know those. I use a raider waite deck, old school. I have practiced on and off so I am not very advanced.
I just got my tarot cards and the first reading I did I pulled 10 cards out 😭 it literally made me feel nauseous because of how overwhelming and confusing the energies and cards were. On top of that, I was asking about someone who struggles with identity issues and doesn’t know what he wants in life so overall just very head pounding. I learned that the most I can do at this time is to use 4 cards, but ideally I would pull 2-3. Keeping it short but sweet definitely feels a lot better
Hey! Total beginner here. When it comes to actually drawing a card is there a "proper" way to do it? Is it enough to just shuffle, spread the deck in front of me, and choose the cards I feel drawn to?
