Basic Tutorial On Behringer Crave Syncing With Gate Signal

So a long time ago I made a video on how to sync up the NTS-1 to the TR-626 and I am now using the same principle to sync up the PO-33 to the Behringer Crave. This basic tutorial builds on a previous half arsed attempt to show how Teenage Engineerings PO-33 KO could be synced to the NTS-1 using the PO's sync capability.
One of the joys of Behringers Semi modular Crave synth is the ability to spur off a gate signal, and that is exactly what we will be using today.

Nice one man! I was looking for a clock out so I could slave my TD-3 to it. Never thought of using gate out! Many thanks!

I get really interesting results from simply using the tap function on my Korg Modwave when it's in sequencer mode. Works great for fast on the fly synchronization.

Yep, I never really dealt with CV synchronisation much before getting the PO and NTS-1 but you can do some crazy stuff with it, and you can use anything that has a click to run it. Thanks for watching.

Really enjoy the Video . I have crave , minilogue xd and volca beats . I would love ti know How would you Sync them . Im runing a midi cable to the volca from the minilogue than Sync out from volca to tempo in the CRAVE . Thank you for the Video once again. Good vibes from Swiss Alpes

No worries, thanks for watching. Just a thought but if you put the Crave in the middle you could use the Midi for all the instruments. Fairly sure that the Midi out on the Crave works as a thru port.

Hello, Have you any Ideas, how i Sync The Crave with the Volca Drum and a Zoom Arq96? The Zoom only have USB Midi

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer but I think you would need to get some sort of usb MIDI to DIN converter. Be careful though as you are not looking for a USB MIDI interface, that is something different. The Crave to the volca drum should be quite simple if you use the MIDI out from the Crave to control the clock on the Volca Drum, or you could alternatively use the sync jacks.

Hi yes, you should be able to, simply connect the SR-16 Midi out to the Midi in on the Crave.

How do you get just strict tempo from crave using these leads ?

Aside from setting a note on every step the other thing it is possible to do is use the LFO as a clock. Set it to square wave so you have a regular pulse and then feed the LFO output into the sync jack on the PO. Thanks for watching and let me know how you get on.

If you are relying on using gate from crave how do you stop this odd timing from Happening?

Hi if you are using the gate then you need to have a note sound on every step to get regular timing. You could run the leads the other way round and use the PO as the master feeding the sync signal into the Tempo jack on the Crave input.

Just a question from a complete CV newbie. What if I wanted to make the Crave a clock slave, if other hardware doesn't have MIDI, but only clock out / sync out or even gate out CV? I am going to try out a Nintendo DSi with Korg Ds10 on it and will use the right channel from its stereo output purely for clicks. Which input CV and setting of the Crave do I need to use in order for the Crave to recognize this? Probably with the Behringer tool? Set it to external clock CV? Which port is that? This would normally work with a DSi and Volca on the Clock Input.

Hi I am sure I have seen a similar trick used somewhere with the DSi producing a click track. I have not tried syncing the Crave as a slave via CV but I imagine that the Tempo jack would do the job. I will give it a go with the NTS-1 which I know produces a CV clock.

But before I going to start buying specific splitter cables, it would be nice to know if the Crave understands it. I know Behringer is quirky at times when it comes to CV communication. Why don't you use the Assign out with clock sync instead of this method?

I got into the habit of leaving the assign out with the random step on to create a bit more uncontrolled movement, but you could easily assign a clock sync out as well. You can also create some interesting rhythms using the gate which doesn't happen with an absolutely rigid clock signal. I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve.
