It's totally normal not to get everything on the first listen, after years I still find myself discovering new meanings and details behind his work every time, and that's why we love bo. All you need to do is pay attention to the lyrics (in a more "focused" way than you'd normally do with random music) so you can fully experience the beauty of it! Other than that, haters gonna hate you just keep going!! :)
as a bo fan, a lot of bo burnham fans that go around watching the reactions love to shit on anybody who doesn't fully "understand" the song, and it's always cringe. not everybody is going to have the same take from his songs, and believe it or not, if you're a hardcore fan you might have listened to it a million times and have a different understanding than from the first listen.

There’s more people that appreciate what you do than don’t and those that don’t do it strictly to take out their internalized hatred on someone more successful. Don’t give them the time of day. I like to think that at some point in the internet’s future history that the ‘haters’ will just be an expected thing and that idea will take away all of their power and influence because they’re simply not special enough to inflict the damage they’re hoping for.
i've been following bos jurney for 14 years, i sat and played games while singing from my bedroom and hes truly like me and see the world from what it is, he just putting the problem out there for people to see cause most people are in a bubble where they cant listen to the reality. although hes just a guy who is sad and wanna be happy like all of us. Agreed. Everyone knows almost nothing about almost everything. Some of us just know slightly less nothing than others. The people who *think* they know the most are the ones who know the least, and the ones who know the most are the ones who *think* they know the least. There's a reason for that.

But what makes these haters especially dumb is that a large appeal of the “reaction video” genre, at least for me, is getting to see the same thing from many different perspectives. Not every perspective will interpret the subject the same way or make the same judgements. If you get mad at everyone who doesn’t interpret it the “right” way, then what’s the point of watching multiple reactions to it? At that point you’re just looking for different faces to say the same thing, which is dumb imo.

People hating just because you didn't pick up on musical theming or deeper meaning are idiots. Not everyone operates on the same mentality and everything is up for multiple kinds of personal interpretation.

Yeah don't pay attention to the people getting upset at you not catching everything on the first listen. Those are probably people who have listened to these songs dozens of times and watch a bunch of reaction videos of them. Bo's material has so many layers and subtleties, it's hard to catch them all on the first listen. Don't get discouraged!

Anyone who thinks Bo isn't a good singer obviously hasn't seen Inside yet. He's not the best in the world but he's closer to that than he is to the average. He just doesn't show it in every song, because he's a comedian first.

Let me add my opinion into the "Haters" pool. The main issue with your Bo reactions is you started at the end. (Not your fault, you couldn't have understood) See for the normal Bo fans, they followed him through the happy, quirky fun times, where he sowed small seeds about his mental health issues and how it was affecting him. (In his What special) Then came Make Happy, where the entire special was focused on how much he was struggling, and it ended with the Kanye Rant/ I don't think I can handle this. So effectively, you picked up the book, and read the last chapter, without realizing the rest of the story and gave an opinion on how it ended. There is NOBODY who could have a clear or educated opinion in that scenario. I'd also point out, the reaction you've been getting is covered in that first song... "Sometimes I love you...Sometimes I hate you...Sometimes I need you...Sometimes I fear you" So Ellie, it's not just you. Just do you and if "they" don't like it, let them know there are about 1 million other channels they can choose from. ;)
