Fall in Vermont is legendary and there's no place I'd rather enjoy it than by Lake Champlain, from the comfort of my own cottage. Basin Harbor surrounds you with nature, history and the simple pleasures of life. Keep your days easy, with a round of golf, a sail on the lake, maybe you can hike one of the many trails to see some wildlife. The resort is itself has been welcoming guests for over a century and this focus on tradition and on family, makes each day here feel timeless.
My 2 year old and I had a blast riding in the golf cart to breakfast, playing on the sandy lake beach and checking out both playgrounds on the property. She thoroughly enjoyed her cruise along the lake with two golden retrievers and she still talks about the maple creemees that we ate daily on the resort's iconic adirondack chairs.
Basin Harbor is only open from spring to fall so be sure to check out their availability well in advance as they have a dedicated following of return families, year after year. You can stay in a room in one of the main houses or opt for a cottage. We did the latter and cannot say enough about waking up to the lapping waves of the lake every morning.
