From Here to There: You forgot to mention that Minnesota has more people graduating college each year than any state in the United States. Minnesota also has more homeownership (per number of people) than any state in the United States. Minnesota and Maine has pretty excellent water tables.

As a Brit, I'd love to visit the US one day, I love that all the states still have something unique about them despite all being part of the same country

I’m actually so glad Virginia ranked pretty high on this list. I will say, living here I’ve hated it, mostly because there isn’t much to do, but the education system is incredible, and watching this video really got me realizing how great this state is.

I'm from Finland and I remember my geography teacher asking the whole class "If you were able to choose a state where to live in the USA what would it be?" I've always been quite good in geography and I even know all the 50 states and where they're located so my answer was like "Probably in Virginia or Colorado.." I've just always thought these states must be better than average states in pretty much every way. Climate, nature, education, job opportunities, safety etc. It's nice to see both of the states I answered are doing better than average hahah Many others answered, more or less tongue in cheek, places like Hawaii, California and Florida of course. 😂 At least there you don't have to suffer from cold or snow.

As someone who's lived his whole life in the middle states of New England (Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts) I can 100% confirm that I've lived my life on easy mode.

The fact that I automatically assumed my state would be the worst just reiterates what the narrator said about what we Illinoisians think of our state being the worst. Barely any credit and taxes that are driving people away. Thanks, Chicago lawmakers. Three cheers for homicides & political corruption, too.

The Clip at 14:31 was taken in the Town I grew up in (Clayton, NC) just 20-30 minutes outside Raleigh. I saw the steak house and I was like: “HOLD UP A DAMN MINUTE” I know exactly where that’s at. Clayton has been booming as of recent actually. Cost of living and housing prices are through the roof from all the Yankees migrating there. The town is awesome, also something missed about NC is that you can literally do anything. Wanna Snow Ski got it, surf…got it, etc. there is so much to do there. I’ve loved the 25 years I’ve spent in this state.

Downside of Hawaii: outside of the tourist sector, there are not a lot of great jobs available. Combine that with the super high cost of living and something to consider.

As a Kansas resident, I approve of our 25th place ranking. Good job.

I've been a Floridian all my life and I can say that I am SURPRISED Florida was ranked so high here...the humidity, bugs, and schools are definitely negatives.

There are SO MANY factors that determine which state you wind up in. My biggest issue was career aspirations. I was raised in the NY Metro area back in the 70s and 80s. All I ever wanted to do was teach elementary school so I spent 4 1/2 years getting my BA in Education and teacher certification. I also had quite a bit of subbing experience by then. I sent in applications to more than 100 school districts in the area. I got less than 6 interviews in two years. Finally and thankfully, a Secretary for Human Resources sat me down and told me the best thing I could do was move out of state. I asked why. She replied, "Do you realize that for each open elementary position, we usually have 1,000+ applicants?? The GREAT MAJORITY of resumes we receive are thrown in the trash." To make a long story short, I applied to 40 county wide school districts in North Carolina. Six weeks later, I had my 1st interview in the Charlotte area. I was hired that day. I even got to choose which grade I wanted to teach! So I lived in NC 17 years and now in the Myrtle Beach/Charleston area since 2015. I couldn't be happier! Sometimes God uses closed doors to get you where you need to be.

I live in Utah and I can agree that the nature is very beautiful across the states. From the mountains close to Salt Lake and the southern red rocks, the nature is really good. It is not hard to find a hike near by. Looking at the city skyline while hiking in the mountains is very beautiful. The only bad things about living in Utah is that the air quality can get bad, especially in the summer and winter, and sometimes the traffic can get bad. Other than that, I have to agree with putting Utah in the top 3 this year.

Hello, I've lived in New Hampshire my entire life if you are considering moving here are some pros and cons. Pros: Fall foliage, zero crime, great health care, great education, clean beaches, mountains, clean towns, no state income tax. Cons: Freezing cold winters, sparsly populated outside the seacoast and manchester area, highest property taxes in the country, high rent prices. New Hampshire is probably the best place in the country to raise a family with how safe, educated and great health care.

As a proud Virginian, I am glad that my state surpassed basically our biggest rival, Maryland. I also have major family connections with Massachusetts and North Carolina, so I'm glad those all got into the top 15! (:

Was born in Louisiana. I can agree that the state is very voluntarily polluted due to oil & gas, corruption runs deep, healthcare is bad, crime is high, and diversification of industry leaves much to be desired. The food is what keeps people coming there. For the many who want to leave, low income, poverty, and lack of resources forces them to stay there. I moved to Massachusetts; it was a major positive change.

For a state with the slogan “it’s not for everyone” I’m a little surprised Nebraska made it to the top 10.

Something that needs to be said about Washington is that it's essentially split in half: west side and east side. All of the stock footage in the video is from the west side where a vast majority of the population is. The east side has much more in common with Montana, with barely any trees and wheat fields all across the horizon. If you are a farmer, having some land on the east side will get you rich due to the wheat, barley, potatoes, apples, lentils, and whatever else you can grow there.

the rural parts of NC are beginning to see more people moving to them and a little bit more jobs opening up, but the infrastructure such as roads and buildings need to be improved. i would definitely put NC closer to top 10 though.

I visited St Petersburg in Florida, years ago, and it seemed to be quite European in style, but with massive marinas.

Michigan’s ranking really got dragged down by Detroit and Flint.

As a West Virginian, pretty much everything that was said is true. The schools aren't great, the healthcare isn't the best, and the infrastructure is abysmal, but things have really developed over the last few years and we really do have some amazing scenery. A lot of industry is popping up bringing lots of jobs which is bringing a lot more people. I live in the eastern panhandle and it seems like there is a new neighborhood going up every other month. On top of that, a lot of people are moving here because the cost of living is low and in the eastern panhandle, we are less than 2 hours from DC and Baltimore so people usually just commute to work and make 2-3x more money doing so. I'm really curious to see what West Virginia is like in the next decade or so.

As a Washington state native, I can say that everyone who lives outside of the Seattle Metropolitan Area absolutely despises everyone living inside the Seattle Metropolitan Area.

I live on the literal border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire and I can say, traveling between the two, they're similar in many ways, and both are amazing compared to the other states I've visited but I'd have to say new england has to be my favorite part This is coming from someone who was born and raised in japan

Wow, some of these rankings were unexpected! I've lived in a couple of the states listed and have different opinions based on my experiences. Does anyone else feel the same?

As a New Jerseyan, thank you for not basing us on stereotypes and highlighting our better features! I also think it's pretty interesting how we have such a diverse set of landscapes and cultures in such a tiny area. You'll find big cities, small towns, sprawling suburbia, open land and farms, mountains, woods, and the beach depending on what part of the state you're in.

In defense of Texas’s rural areas, it is because there are a LOT of farms, and that takes up a lot of empty space. Also the rural areas are very beautiful.

The problem with ranking an entire state is that each state is broken up into lots of cities. If a person prefers a large city that might work. I live in a small town in Missouri now, but prior to that I have lived in almost every state in the United States, and of all of them I prefer Missouri. However, I would definately NOT live in St. Louis.

As a Canadian who's been to about half the US States, nothing compares to Montana and Wyoming. The scenery in those two states is beyond spectacular.

9:55 this place is called silvin lake in Custer state park (custer sd) there is a secret entrance into the outher side of the lake (and if you can’t find it the locals will help you they are super friendly) and it’s right next to stunning needles highway a crazy cool place and it’s also 30 min away from my Rushmore this place is Deffinty a place to go and also is Custer state park

I live in New Mexico and love it! 350 days of sunshine per year, no traffic, low cost of living, wide open spaces, amazing camping and hiking, and spectacular scenery. I’m really not looking forward to moving back East where it’s expensive, crowded, hectic, and stressful.

New Mexico is a great state. I have enjoyed the beautiful geography, nighttime skies, great drinking water, clear air, and fabulous business opportunities - as a small business owner. As an Albuquerque resident, I have never been robbed, nor witnessed it, have never experienced crime other than witnessing road rage. I love it here! Thanks for moving to Arizona and Texas instead, America! Lol 😅❤

My only complaint would be not a lot of positives were mentioned in some states (even top 25); & then when you get to the top, only the positives are listed. It would be good to hear both + & - for each state.

as an arizonian myself, everything you said about arizona is like 98% accurate to what we experience.

I rank Arizona #1 because if you work from home, Williams seems to me like an unbelievable place to live (I don’t live there so if you do correct me if I’m wrong). It’s not hot in the entire state just where most people live, oddly enough. I see that as a positive though, that means the desirable places aren’t overcrowded (except for flagstaff).

As a Minnesotan I must say, I think Minnesota was ranked pretty fair, but as much as we as a state may dislike Wisconsin I think it deserves to be much higher. I think it’s actually very similar to Minnesota (despite a couple differences in landscape) so I was surprised that it’s not in the top 10

Holy crap you absolutely nailed the “Beige Cookie Cutter Homes” for Arizona. As much as I love my state, most of the neighborhoods do look the same. Though I believe the houses were made to have that Desert theme to them, which I think is actually pretty cool. And I feel like the Desert aesthetic is a bit underrated, cause it can look beautiful.

I was living in California in the late 90's and was fed up with the politics and crime, so I began a very comprehensive search for the one place in the continental United States that I felt would best suit me and my family's needs. I ended up in Idaho. It was the best decision I ever made, and my only regret was I didn't make the move 30 years before! I left all that California BS behind and found the life and the people I was looking for. True story.

As a Wisconsin resident, I absolutely do not wish I lived in Florida, you get used to the cold, and it's a pretty great all around state, Florida is booming like crazy, crawling with tourists, pretty expensive, and sinking into the water

really surprised about the list. Just moved to Alabama and loving it. We also met a lot of people from all over the US who moved here. We live at the gulf and its beautiful. Plus, the people here are so nice and its cheap compared to other states.

Every state has its beauty and flaws, for example in Maryland, you have the whole state and then you have Baltimore

Having lived in Utah the first 62 years of my life I now live in Kentucky and find it very beautiful and the people are very humble and kind. Miss the mountains and the snow though!

I've live in nh all 15 years of my life and i plan to continue forever, except possibly temporarily moving for college. No sales or income tax, the crazy weather is something i enjoy, i always feel safe, Concord is awesome, we have 300-year-old stuff everywhere you look that people just lean bikes on. It feels like all new Hampshirites are in on one big inside joke together the way we act in public. Oh yeah, and virtually my entire family lives here.

I remember that my teacher was teaching us about financial literacy. She mentioned how a teenager working as a cashier was dealing with her money. She told us how he mixed up the coins and stuff, so I wasn’t surprised to hear that the school education was low at Tennessee.

Ayyy Utah represent! #2 is better than expected considering how the housing prices are skyrocketing across the Salt Lake Valley. Also "Utonians" made me chuckle. We're actually called Utahns, though I am fully aware that sounds even sillier

I love Utah, there are really so many good things. But I am surprised they didn't mention driving along the Wasatch front area. I believe we were voted worst drivers in 2022 and I am scared I could die any day on the roads. But idk, maybe the rest of the country is also that bad. If I die young, it will most likely be from a wreck over here imo. Inversion is lame too, and I definitely wouldn't consider it cheap to live here. My smaller town of Spanish Fork is currently averaging %12 more than the average in home cost. But the positives seem really accurate to me, not to mention, people are very friendly around here.
