After Jaylen Brown won the MVP it made two years in a row that there wasn't a signature athlete with a signature moment in the Finals. If Brown had a signature, would it matter? In this discussion I use resale data to discuss the seasonality of hoops sneakers and how the basketball sneaker, which helped to start the sneaker craze, is no longer the foundation of the culture around kicks.

I do think that personality also plays a huge part in selling signature basketball shoes. Tatum, Luka, Jokic, Booker etc are just boring people. The AE1 is the first signature basketball shoe that I purchased in over a decade. JA fumbled the bag by ruining his reputation. Hopefully, he can stay out of trouble and slowly restore it so Nike can get behind him. Also give him a shoe that stands out that doesn't look like another Kobe. I was even tempted to buy the Harden Vol 7 and Vol 8 because how striking they look. Hell, even the DON 6 and Dame 9 coming soon look good.

D Rose was boring but he was an athlete's athlete. He amazed us and his first few kicks sold. The design got progressively worse and then basketball fell off. adidas caught lightning in athlete and design. Nike feels like they no longer care and they are led by a contingent of big RU-vidrs and talking heads who aren't and weren't athletes and never dreamed of being athletes. Nike list its way and they forgot how to lead. Good comment!
