I spent a bit of time down there and I'm kicking myself I didn't think about this type of fishing. Hopefully I'll get back back down there again and give it a go. Thanks for sharing!
Hi lovely to hear from you! Fishing the Bristol Channel storm beaches is interesting and can be rewarding it’s a shame you didn’t get to experience it! Hopefully you will in the future! I must also say I am very impressed by your posts the production is extremely professional…. Well done! I spent time in Scotland getting my pharmacy degree in the late 70s and did a bit of salmon fishing then plus holidays in Sutherland as a child around Lochinver and Scourie. Cheers ian
You drive towards Woodspring priory...just before there is a national trust car park down a rutted track to the right. From there it’s a ten minute walk over fields! Cheers Ian
Hi thanks very much for watching glad you enjoyed the video! There have been times this year when we have indeed doubted their existence 😂 On Brean we do usually get a run of bass and cod early April and thankfully we were lucky enough to get a few!! Cheers Ian
Hi Iain unlucky on two fronts! ☹️ I got parking ticket a few weeks ago too I’ve been parking there 30 years no problem then suddenly it’s illegal 😡 . Away from double yellow lines is ok. Thanks again for watching cheers Ian
Hi Kevin thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! We live only a few minutes from the beach and we do appreciate how lucky we are! The bass were very healthy and fought well for their size! Cheers Ian
Great fishing, I used to live just down the road at burnham but I have now move to essex, the bass are great to catch, hopefully I shall have a couple this week,
Hi Mark yes the water always that colour.....a big smelly bait is a definite advantage...8 blow lug is our standard bait and i feel many anglers fail by not cramming enough bait on. Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi Anthony so glad you enjoyed watching the video! Some are easy to edit into something watchable but this one was a pig! Worked out ok in the end and thanks for your kind words! Bass was very tasty! Cheers Ian
Hi Ian, great to see you guys out on Brean again, and catching some nice fish. It’s quiet up here on the Northumberland coast, I’ve just been scratching the odd fish out, hopefully it’ll improve soon! I look forward to seeing your next Chesil trip on video soon and hope you have some great fishing over the year ahead.
Hi David thanks very much for your kind words! Glad you are enjoying the channel I hope to travel further afield in the near future now lockdown is easing. Thanks for your support cheers Ian
Very enjoyable thank you, I fished there not too long ago, I parked on road, a couple of others parked on grass verge & got tickets for parking on verge,
Hi mate yes it’s never clear at all!! We have the Severn Wye and Avon rivers at the head of the Bristol Channel, relatively shallow water and of course massive tidal ranges and it’s all sand/mud on the bottom. All combined means constant colour. It means no sight feeders like mackerel Bream plaice. However it fishes really well in the daytime so unlike say Chesil you can be confident of catching at all hours! However I am looking forward to next weeks lockdown easing to fish somewhere else! Cheers Ian
As usual, another enjoyable and watchable video, nice sized bass, just right for dinner. Unfortunately, locally East Devon, not fishing too clever at moment, just the odd dogfish, but hay, smoothounds are a coming (hopefully) Stay safe and go steady
Hi Derek I’m itching to go further afield....like you I’m looking forward to the hounds arriving!! Just needs a bit of warm weather I think! Tight lines cheers ian
Hi again Gareth nice to hear from you ! That was by far our best session this year so hopefully things are improving! Tight lines for next week!!! Cheers Ian
30 mins ,must be xmas ,lol ,great vid ,i was standing in your foot steps last week on a 7 oclock high tide rough wind ,.1 codling ,but it was good to be out ,also had my first trip to chesil a few days before ,1 dog fish ,but what a lovely place to fish , had a great sun set as well .ATB
Hi mate glad you have been to Chesil it’s a special place! We doing our first trip in a couple of weeks....just waiting for a bit of warmer weather....hopefully some plaice and early hounds about. You must go again in the summer.... a June evening is very special!!!! Cheers Ian
Excellent fish and shame about the lost ones. Brean is always hit and miss. I fished Kingston Seymour last week . There were seven rods out between three anglers and not one bite. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike.
Hi Mike it’s been more miss than hit for us too!! Best session by far this year! Hopefully it is improving into the summer!!! Thanks again for watching cheers Ian
Hi mate I’m sure you will enjoy Chesil! I prefer fishing at Abbotsbury as it gives deep water and a good mix of species. However in spring Cogden is very good for plaice . The Weymouth end is also deep water but fishes better as the year progresses.
Hi thanks for watching! Yes extremely shallow!! At 100 yards probably only 4 feet deep but there are loads of shrimp in there....most fish we keep have bellies stuffed with them!! A moderate onshore wind gets the fish in!!! Cheers Ian
bass are always in close, the come in close because they enjoy feeding in surf also best chance for the worm. Bass will feed in 2ft of water, i would been casting short every cast. Love the vids
Hi James thanks for watching! They were very close in for sure....in a flat sea they tend to be further out. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Herbert nice to hear from you! Due to the tide racing in at speed you can see we set up some way back from the waters edge so bite detection is not always easy so we are looking for usually slack line or a change in angle of the line along the beach . Putting the rods lower means less neck ache and doesn’t seem to hamper bite detection.... so it’s really personal preference to be honest plus when it’s very windy the wind has less effect on the line not in the water and keeps you in better contact with your weight. Many other anglers on Brean fish with rods high up . Cheers Ian
Hi Ian nice video. Can you get lungworm on that beach as I could not quite see if there were lug casts or small shells on the sand. I am come to Brean end June would be nice to wet a line one or two evenings 😏.
Hi Stephen yes lug very easy to dig and it’s the best bait too!! End of June will be bass and sole...fish size 4 hooks with 6 dug lug and you will have a great chance of a fish or two!! You can only fish last 3 hours of the flood and an hour of the ebb. Cheers Ian
Hi Col thanks for watching and taking the time to comment....I used just lug ....so did Chris. We generally put about 6 to 8 on each time as they have to find by scent in the coloured water. In winter with a chance of a cod I will use squid too as a cocktail but felt better chance of a bass on that day. Cheers Ian
Hi yes its very shallow but the surf definitely stirs up the shrimps etc and being coloured water too the fish can be very close....thankfully!! Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi Chris it’s an easy beach to fish. Fish the last 3 hours before high tide. Lug the best bait by far. Usually fish two rods one at distance. Second rod closer with smaller baits. It’s not fishing too well at the moment only a few codling but plenty of ray and conger. Park opposite the Brean village hall then it’s a short walk. Good luck cheers ian
Hi Ian, love your videos, thanks for another. I am hoping on giving this a go next week. I was digging some bait last weekend and saw the beach warden warning people not to get close to the shore because of mud. Is there any where you are? Looks pretty sandy. My Dad says hello - he used to fish Blagdon Lake with you a few years back. Bald dentist, goes by the name of Mark! Cheers, Harry
Hi Harry lovely to hear from you! Crikey I remember your dad we used to fish Butcombe shore together with Chris all the time it must be at least 25 years ago!!! Tell him we were on that shore last Friday had 23 trout between us!!! The mud at Brean is only dangerous a long way out ....start fishing about 2.75 hours before high and there is no problem at all! We fish behind Brean Village hall. Good luck and thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!! Unfortunately the Bristol Channel is fed by two large rivers, is generally shallow and has huge tides….all this means the water is very coloured and visibility poor☹️ Sorry to give you bad news! Cheers ian
Hi Michael much better chance of a fish using lug as bait or rag even. Have caught bass here on squid but only a few....if you are prepared to fish for days for the odd big fish then squid ok but for a quick session worm bait gives you a much better chance!!!! Cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Change of plan,I'm off knightstone in weston, god it's windy 😆, I would love the chance to come out with you someday when we are both free if that's possible
Hi Ian, been watching your videos with great interest, I'm thinking of fishing Brean beach soon, can i park on the beach and fish ? as i can no longer do the long long walks, any info would be very helpful, kind regards, Paul.
Hi Paul yes you can park on the beach the gates are open from about 9am to 6pm I think but not certain of exact times...there is a charge. You pay at the entrance. It’s safe to park as long as the tide is under 12m in height on the Weston Super Mare tables. Park against the dunes. Realistically you can only fish the last 3 hours of the flood and maybe an hour of the ebb. Use lug as bait either dig it or buy it....Thyers in Highbridge sell it speak to Russ. Currently it’s poor as the east wind is a killer but if it switches then great chances of a few bass. Cheers Ian
Hi, again Ian sorry to keep on, I'm fishing Brean beach this coming Saturday plan is to fish one rod with a pully rig 3 foot'ish with size 2/0 1/0 hooks, what is your advice on rigs and what sort of distance for casting, any info will be appreciated, cheers Paul. @@ianclarkfishing
Hi good height tide not sure if you fishing morning or evening??? We use pulley pennel rigs I would fish size 2 hooks ....smaller hooks fine this time of year. As it’s a relatively big tide you need to walk back and let out line as you retreat up the beach....within 45 minutes you will have 250 yards of line out which is fine as long as you have put on a lot of lug!!! You can leave a big bait out an hour easy as no crabs at all. You can fish another rod shorter and cast more frequently with a smaller bait on it. Cheers Ian
Hi Ian We are down for the week and looking to fish brean beach, 25/10/2021 we are a short walk from the shipwreck, do you have any tips on tactics, bait etc Thanks in advance.
Hi Matt Brean is relatively easy to fish as long as the wind is not too strong so I suggest you fish before Friday this week! It’s a worm beach so a large lug bait is best!!! Fish 3 hours before high and maybe a little bit down. Use pulley pennel or flapper rigs ….you can leave big baits out for an hour. Very little crab trouble and if you hook a small whiting leave it on as live bait as we have had many big cod and bass this way!!!! Good luck thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi Gary we use simple pulley pennel rigs which we clip down....you could easily use flapper rigs as you don’t need to cast far. I did a RU-vid video on pulley pennel making a couple of years ago. Cheers Ian
Hi thanks for watching! Now that’s a question.... I sort of made it up using tucked blood knots! Probably best to look on RU-vid for a tutorial 👍 too hard to explain in a text!! Cheers Ian
Just curious, I fished on the beach up near the national Trust car park, baits came out untouched every time lol, is there a better spot on the beach to fish from?
Hi! We also blank too but tend to fish behind Brean village hall. Need a tide over 10m preferably with an onshore wind and fish lug! Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi Ollie nice to hear from you. You can fish Brean on any height tide. Something over 10m and below 11.5m is the best but we have had some great catches on neaps in the past. Cheers ian
