Correction: "The Dipole15 is not 7.5mm Xmax. It is 15mm Xmax one way, 30mm p-p. Suspension travel is 25mm one way, 50mm p-p."
In this video I test the Acoustic Elegance Dipole 15 in bass cabinet No.1798. This is the fifth pair we've build of this cabinet with the previous four being sold. So this pair with the AE driver + wood phase plug is available to buy.

Not very common to be able to use a horn loaded cabinet for applications below 40Hz. This is impressive.

Your previous video on the Beyma 15in showed much lower distortion results?

According to AE's homepage the driver have an xmax of 15mm peak, not p-p. 🤔

Based on 70% of BL. Not by when the surround makes it unlinear. They used to be rated at 12mm xmax when sold by the original manufaturer- Lambda Acoustics. So who knows without testing them over different excursion lengths? The 15M starts to get anomalies from stretched surround at 3mm ish, while it's rated at 6mm xmax on AE website.🤔

The price went up 200USD. Now it costs 659 USD.

What concerns me about the speaker is its low FS. This tells me that most likely has a high moving Mass, which might explain the low sensitivity.
@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding

The moving mass is 90g, the SB 15OB350 is 107g. Moving mass is not directly related to sound character, despite it being intuitively related…it is not.

I used the following speaker in a project and and it gave very favorable results. FAITAL 15HP1060 (15" LF LOUDSPEAKER, NEODYMIUM, PUSH, 8 OHM) Perhaps something you might want to test. Very tight, un-muddy bass for a 15 inch woofer. While it rolls off at 36 HZ, very few musical instruments play below 50 HZ. If you play a test tone at 40 HZ it shakes the house. By the way I love the stuff that you're doing.😊

Not necessarily. You need to consider the Vas, and other suspension related parameters.

VAS =600+L - is very good for 1watt (home watt) Cabinet - no back panel?
@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding
@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding 9 месяцев назад
That’s correct. The rear panel is completely removed. There are two large pillows in the cabinet that’s still required.

yep altec 416 would also fit the bill. You have to be aware that these high vas driver may have low-ish power capabilities.

I think it's time for you to switch to 18 inch speakers. A completely different feeling of low frequencies, significantly less distortion, the very format of music perception changes. You haven't even set foot in big sound territory yet.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will eventually get there. I’ve modelled an 18” but it’s a big change for the 1798 cabinet, it pushes the size larger than I think most would go for. So I may look at a regular bass cabinet using the Beyma 18LX60V2.

Given the cost difference between the 15” AE and 15” SB, could you use two of the SBs in an OB design and get enough bass extension to not need a sub? Two SBs per side would still be cheaper than one AE driver

@@ccdccd8615 For several years I began to use 18 inch speakers in my designs, both an OB and a modified bass reflex. Even one driver produces bass of a completely different quality. I can recommend JBL 2268HPL, JBL 2241H, you won't be disappointed. The price is very affordable, no distortions at all, high sensitivity and most of all - phenomenal, very palpable and texturized bass impact.
