OK seriously I can't believe Dig came out so long ago.... He was phenomenal then and now he's just a Bass God... Ryans bass lines on L.D 50 are probably in the top 5 metal bass performances of all time.
@SonOfOdin What would you rate higher? Because I adore his performance on that. I'm not into ranking them because that's reductionist as fuck and dismissive of awesome talent, but I want to know who you'd rate high.
+Phil D. Dumas oh fuck yeah.. As soon as i heard that weird interlude in ''Internal primates forever'' off LD:50, that alien sounding lick he plays, i thought ''maaan that sounds cool.'' been hooked ever since!
Adam Lefebvre I agree they weren’t really nu metal, but really, all those terms are totally subjective, they only mean whatever people use them to mean, it’s not like there’s some “official” source of those terms which everyone agrees defines authoritatively exactly what each means. So call it metal, nu Metal, math metal, prog metal, whatever. I remember Mudvayne said in (probably more than 1 interview) they find this genre-defining thing very irritating altogether - they just want to play their stuff and not be placed into somebody else’s neat little box “defining” them.
@@adamlefebvre1571 Despite all the great things I've heard about Martinie's playing, I never gave Mudvayne a chance because of the Nu-Metal tag. I've never been into Nu-Metal. I'm listening to their first album now and yeah it really sounds like Nu-Metal. Oddly enough, I kinda like it.
It's always funny to hear such a furious bass player as he was in Mudvayne be so genuine and friendly, also very modest, that's why I love that kind of metal musicians.
Greg Bradshaw My dude if you thinking Ryan Martinie is trash , you are completely incorrect. I respect people’s opinion, but Ryan martinie is Amazing, that’s a fact
@@GAMER_0101 yea actually meant to say the br br deng video or the most brutal scream video put out not dig. Obviously dig was mudvaynes coming out party.
Dude scared me when i was a kid. He's been a legend for years now but carries himself like he's the okay kid that was just allowed into the cool older kids clique.
He’s very humble and naturally I would like for his talent be used to the best of his abilities. He would make an excellent instructor because he has the ability to articulate his point without being boring. You are the best man!
Thank you Warwick and Ryan for making this video! Ryan is my number one musical hero and I would not be playing bass without having heard his playing. So every video that surfaces of his playing makes me very happy. Cheers!
In seconds, this became my favorite video on the internet of all time. He's gotten EVEN BETTER SOMEHOW and it's always an honor to hear his latest licks. Simply stunning and amazing. Couldn't count how many times I rewinded it. Thanks Warwick for giving him much deserved air time. He's an absolute individual with an army of aspiring musicians.
"I'm not the world's greatest bass player like some of the people here are." That is the most humble statement I have ever heard coming from one of the world's greatest bass players of all time.
He is definitely one fantastic player. And super humble about his abilities. AND seems like a good human being and communicator. Will always throw him my support in his.current and future projects
So glad to see Ryan getting some air time, this guy steered my towards playing Warwick basses and his techniques (especially on the L.D.50 album) were inspirational to me! Would love to see a Q&A with him and is tuning he uses these days still GCGCF?
Ikr we need to see more ryan it's a pitty mudvayne might never get back together but it's cool to have some updates of his playing and totally agree we need more videos from him there simply aren't enough
+Declan Beyer yeah fieldy tunes to A standard but I thunk ryan uses GCGCF so it's easier to do his octave tapping technique there's another warwick video where he goes over his tunings I think it was the fuss on the bus video
Man, everything you do we'll pay attention! You're a genius, a great inspiration for millions of bassists around the world! Thank you Warwick and Framus to get us chance to hear Ryan speak and off course play!
+Condemned You guys clearly havent done your homework. RU-vid search "Soften the Glare", they've been doing stuff for 2 years. ;P They released an album this year and theyre touring. ~an actual fan.
I was at Warwick basscamp 2015. I met this legend. He innovated bass playing. I still look back at meeting him and cherish this. He invented this way of playing all by himself. I hope to see new records of him often.
One of the nicest guys I met. Seen him during mudvayne show in Albuquerque putting on his makeup in the restroom for his first tour. Nobody knew him or his music, so we were stoked to ask him all our questions. Thanks Ryan!
Matt Kirchhofer agreed. Not to diminish anything from Mudvayne cause it's such a kickass band, but there's so much more potential outside of that band.
He is such a humble person. "I am not the best bass player in the world.".. Um, you most definitely are up there, man. Just gives him something to look forward too and to look up to others to become better, which is such a great characteristic to have. I would love to sit and have a convo with this man. What a talent.
I've come back to watch this video countless times just to hear him play. I know this is the highlight video from the full interview, it would have been cool if they put in this video this part. Andy Irvine tells Ryan that he is the reason Warwick has sold more Thumb model basses than any other player, of course he is humble about it, but has to be a good feeling to know he's inspired that many people in music.
I really appreciate seeing a person show such confidence in his speech, mannerisms and playing, at the same time he behaves so modestly. That's a nice combination of attributes in a famous musician.
"I hope I have some things to give for the people who come to this :)" - what the fuck, we need more people like him, what a humble and amazing bass player
"I'm not the worlds best bass player" Ryan, thank you for being so humble. But... *PLEEEEEASE* 😂😂😂!! You're definitely top 10 best bass players all time, #1 underrated, and top 3 technical bassists all time
He's said in the past the thumb kind of is his signature in a way. He's the guy who's famous for playing that specific bass, and there's nothing he could really ever want to change about it
Big Ryan fan. Huge sound that cuts through on Mudvayne. The respect he has for the other artists is pretty cool. Watching the Fuss on the Bus vid...his colleagues were just floored by his technique. Solid.
He says I'm not the greatest bass player ever. Like a lot of people there. But dude is. Legend.and he is definitely one of the greatest bass players of all time. He is an amazing player and he is very humble.
Ryan's bass playing is definitely out of this world and an absolutely wonderful pleasure to listen and hear. When I first heard the Mudvayne song Dig, my jaw dropped and I was just mind blown by his bass parts. 😎🤘🖤
I saved up my allowance money when I was in middle school to buy The End Of All Things To Come. Still one of the best purchases I’ve ever made; next to three ply toilet paper. That’s the most important.
I have been to countless concerts and seen countless bass players. Ryan blows them all away. He is simply the best. Unmatched in skill and technique. Go see Mudvayne if they tour near you. Watching him live is an experience in itself. So entertaining watching him perform on stage.
You're as good a bassplayer as you are modest, Ryan. Which means that you're an inspiration both as a musician and a person. Truly class act. Keep up the good work!
I have so much respect for this guy. He was a fucking wrecking machine with Matt McDonough in Mudvayne. God, what a band that was. I still don't think he or Matt gets enough credit for their extraordinary talent, not like they need anyone's approval, but still.
I remember first hearing Mudvayne when the Death Blooms music video came on, and being mind blown and scared at the same time. It was almost like the band weren’t real people, like they were monsters or creatures. It’s just funny how down to earth and completely human he is. Had the pleasure of meeting him in 2005 as well.
Bro to discount yourself @1:10 is ashame. you are so amazing and love your outside the box to playing!!! Love me some Mudvayne and Soften the Glare!!!!!! You rip bro!!!!!! You are a player with sound and texture!!! Just tasty!!! Love it!! cheers & god bless!!!
obviously I just found the smartest member of mudvayne, and the most gifted, seen them on the LD50 tour during ozzfest , when Ryan went from black and red devil, to silver orange, and he was a maniac! too bad it was an outdoor show at a second stage event, where you do not get the best sound quality, and sound techs from what I know, they put all the educated and more experienced techs on the arena , and they throw all the interns and new techs , sometimes just guys who never went to school , but know how to set up from experience to the 3rd and 2ND stage. BUT yes Ryan is a damn virtuoso!
I absolutely 💖 his style of playing, especially on the album LD 5.0, its almost like he's the lead Gitarrist that plays Bass. Very talented man. And definitely up there in the top 10 bass players.
What gets me the most...... This guy can clearly play circles around most of the big names. Yet damn modest...... A reason he's one of my major bass influences
Man the worlds greatest bass player in my opinion saying he's not when he is now that's some humility right there which why ima such a big fan of Ryan!! Thanks for this Warwick! Also give the man his own signature line!! Ill buy one straight off the NAMM floor on sell it all sunday lol
This guy is so awesome, he would give you the shirt off his back..... no really..... he literally did one time. At the end of a Mudvayne set at Ozzfest instead of just throwing guitar picks into the crowd like most do he took some of his clothes off and threw his boots and clothes into the crowd. Its been 20 years and I still remember it.
