@@ethancampbell9096 Haha, enjoy it, dude! The first one is probably the hardest of the bunch in my opinion, but that's mostly because the bass clarinet my school has has far more issues playing in the mid upper than most bass clarinets. If you have a bass clarinet that goes down to low C you can actually do the contrabass solo as well
I think all clarinet are underated because they aren't usually publicized by bands and the publicized ones are mostly the trumpets trombones saxophones and stuff like that the only major publicity I've seen is squid ward from spongebob and still that barely helps
@@Evanw10282 I completely agree with you but clarinets while they get more of the melody they arent as publicly talked about as trombones trumpets and instruments like that are
im a bass clarinet player and i always say my parts are super boring but in the rare instance i get a melody part i complain that theres too many moving notes! Thats just the life of a bass clarinet player ;)
accurate!!!!! I actually like playing melody I love the sound, but I always skip over the 16th note runs or difficult timing measures cuz we bass clarinet players ain't used to that stuff. when I have 16th note runs I always say i my head yeah I ain't playing that runs are meant for the flutes and clarinets not for us bass people
As a brass player, I've been obsessed with woodwinds lately I'm on clarinets right now and I just love how full and robust thr Bass Clarinet sounds, especially the low notes!
@@candylandkm I switched to bass clarinet now a year ago and it’s amazing. I was a 8th grader that they thought I would be good at it because I did marching band for 8th grade and it’s been amazing now that I play bass clarinet I don’t want to switch back. I’m being claimed in saxophone group now because I’m the only one and they know the notes
@@LosingMyMARIbles for me it's definitely not worth it. You only get the baseline which is always the slowest and easiest part of every piece. The past 3 years Ive wanted to switch to the tenor sax but my band director wouldn't let me. It's definitely a cool instrument and in my opinion it's better than the soprano b flat clarinet but composers don't know how to write music for it so playing it has been a nightmare.
I love the bass clarinet. Literally everyone in my concert band wants to be one because it sounds so good. BTW I play alto/tenor sax because I'm not good enough to play bass clarinet.
@@leader.of.the.wyvern8865 I wish I could get one of those but sadly I am poor and can't afford another instrument. I would sell my other instruments but I love them to much already. Thanks for the comment though.
I played the bass clarinet in high school and my mom made me practice outside!! I was only about 4' 9" tall at that time (1976) so I always had to stand to play it!! I loved it!! He plays it much better than I did though!!
i’ve been playing bass clarinet for almost 4 years and never once have i thought about going back to clarinet lol. if you want to switch to bass i HIGHLY recommend it’s so fun and so pretty, we never really get melody tho so get ready for that
Well It will be hard to learn, just practice everyday, or very often, and you will figure it out. It is a wonderful instrument I play the bass clarinet and alto saxophone
Michael! Debbie here, we sat next to each other in the wind ensemble my last couple of years at CSUN. I remember you coming into my lesson and "accidentally" dropping an old clarinet that had every pin and screw removed from it and it crashed into a million pieces! I laughed but our clarinet professor Charlie Bay failed to see the humor and chewed you out royally! I still laugh when I think of it!! Cheers!
I played this piece on the bass clarinet in junior high during a Christmas concert and I have NEVER been more nervous in my life. I was only a second chair and not that good.
In fifth grade my band director let me switch to bass clarinet and now I’m about to be 14 and I’ve never gone back. Im currently in marching band at my school and we’re about to go into concert season, but I will say that our parts are so much fun to play. Occasionally i’ll get that one song that just absolutely kills me bc of all the moving notes, but it is such a beautiful instrument and I encourage anyone who would like to to make the switch!
