Some low tuned A0 standard riffing on extra long scale 5 strings for ya!
This time we have:
- Spector Euro 5 LX-TW in Black Stain Gloss, flamed maple top
- Ibanez BTB605MS in Cerulean Aura Burst Matte
- Solar AB2.5 in Metallic Blue
Song is "Kraxelmann" by my band Norgaahl (‪@norgaahl8718‬), consider checking out our EP with the same name if you're into death metal
What do you think - which bass won?

The Spector really does have a certain low end that really stands out.

Spector, full dominance. BTB can keep up but not the Solar

The solar is just muddy and dull, it got lost immediately in the mix.

I don't know why, but it felt like it's just kind of farting out when I hit it hard, especially on the E string. Could be a setup issue... Nevertheless, considering that the BTB and the Solar have the same price tag, the Ibanez is clearly ahead for me.

This was a very useful comparison, thanks for posting! Really blown away by how good that BTB sounds for the price! The Spector growl is just super unique, though - hard to decide which I like better with cost in mind

Thank man! Fully agreed, the BTB is a fantastic value. I've had a Dingwall combustion before, and I think the BTB is fully up to par for a fraction of the price.

Great vid man! That Ibanez sounds and looks fantastic. Also it's like half the price of the Spector, so it's easily the winner for me.

That Spector sounds exquisitely filthy. Head and shoulders the clear winner, followed by the Ibanez.

Killer video 😎🤘🏻🎸 great sounding basses. I personally liked the Ibanez btb. Even though the blue finish on the solar bass looks nice, it’s not as punchy as the Spector and Ibanez basses.

Thanks for checking it out! The BTB is really a great fit, especially considering the price tag. The Solar was a bit disappointing in comparison, especially considering that it costs the same as the BTB...

@@BoneMachineMUC yeah it’s a shame that the solar basses is not as killer as the Spector and Ibanez bass. But I do dig the nice blue finish. Other than that, I would totally choose the Ibanez btb bass. I tried one years ago and I thought it was awesome. And the newer ones are an absolute beast. I might purchase one.

I would like to see a comparison of the better Ibanez BTB model that has Neck-through. The specter is neck through I wonder if that's why it sounds so much better.
@BoneMachineMUC
@BoneMachineMUC Месяц назад
That would be an interesting comparison for sure! I personally think that the straight 35" BTBs will sound quite a bit different, but primarily due to the different electronics and scale length. Regarding the Spector, I would think that the main things making it sound so good is the electronics, the massive bridge and the brass nut; plus, 35" scale really is a kind of sweet spot for A standard tuning. Thanks for checking it out!

That BTB is neck-through model, actually all modern BTBs are.

Thanks for your great comparison again!! (My flavor was 1.spector LX, 2.BTB, 3.Solar) By the way, can you explain us what's the difference in your experience between Red one(euroLX with emgDC) and Gray one(euroLX with emg TW)?
@BoneMachineMUC
@BoneMachineMUC 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for checking it out! Regarding the Spectors, it's almost funny: I bought the red one as a LX with DC40s, never questioned it. Then I bought he grey one used with the TWs, messed around with the push-pull switch. I randomly try on the red, and lo an behold: It's got TW's aswell. Checked on the shipping carton, and there it was marked as a TW aswell :))) So on paper there is no difference. Red is set up for standard tuning with regular strings (135 B string), grey is in A standard with extra fatties (145 B). Red has more of a quilt maple top look, grey is stripy flamed. Both are gloss. So they are very similar indeed.

What are you using as far as your tone? That Spector sounds so much more distinct than the other 2. Like Warwick, Spector just has this sort of unique low end growl that cuts through so nice.
@BoneMachineMUC
@BoneMachineMUC 4 месяца назад
Hey, they all ran through the same signal flow, directly into the interface and then into Helix Native. I tried to roughly gain match them, but that may not have been perfect. Feel you 100% on the Spector cutting through, it has a special characteristic feature in its tone. In fact, I usually run a completely untouched DI signal in parallel to whatever I'm doing with it, just to keep that "Spectorism" and preserve it a bit over all other processing. Thanks for checking out the video, cheers!
@coltonpugh9669

Parallel processing is so awesome when it comes to bass tracks. Super helpful and like you said, with a Spector it helps preserve that bite. The only thing to me that has its own snarl or bite to it is a Warwick, aside from Spector. Also worth mentioning, that multi scale has a a lot of thickness to it that I haven't ever noticed before. Ibanez makes some really exceptional gear these days. I'd still take either a Spector or Warwick any day of the week.

I just got a BTB805ms used, just need to do a set up on it but it sounds SUPER clean. I plan on getting a 4-string for my next bass to have in C-Standard down to Drop B. Any suggestions? I love how Spector sounds but I could just never get into gloss necks and bodies.
@BoneMachineMUC
@BoneMachineMUC Месяц назад
Hey, congrats on the BTB, I think that's a top notch choice, especially bang-for-the-buck! Did you get the blue or black one? Regarding Spector haptics, the newer black Euros with the black hardware are not gloss, they have a satin-finish. Feels great to me, but it's still more smooth / slick than for example an oil finish like a Warwick. Years ago I had the 6-string version of this bass to test (made a comparison video for that aswell), and I regret that I didn't keep it. It was 2K€ new at the time, and now they're going for much more used... Generally speaking, for a low (drop) tuned 4 string, I recently went with an ESP LTD Tom Araya signature, set up for drop A for a deathcore band. With two low tuned guitars and a bunch of chugging, all I care about is a hot signal and string tension, so I mostly just went by the 35" scale (hard to find on 4 strings) and the active electronics. Hope that helps! Cheers from Germany

@@BoneMachineMUC Thanks for the advice! Maybe I will take a look at the Euros then, that or perhaps one of the Shecters! The BTB805 is the Transparent Gray one, you can't really tell in my dark room but it's absolutely beautiful looking! Can't wait to get it hooked into a Dark Glass or Orange Amp! I also thought about looking into ESP LTD since their multiscale was one I almost bought over the BTB, I heard ESP is great for Metal. Cheers from the States!

@@Upsetkiller456 Cool, the dark BTB looks killer! Regarding a 4 string, another one that comes to mind is the green Spector Dimension 4 - it has 36" on the lowest string, matte finish. No crown inlays unfortunately... Looked at the Schecters after your commend; those look pretty sweet aswell!
