Playing bass poorly to songs I like.......
From the 1983 debut release title 'Murmur.' Produced by Don Dixon and Mitch Easter and recorded at Drive In Studio in North Carolina.
Probably my all time favorite REM song. I don't think there was ever a band I was in that this song wasn't on a set list.
The album was huge among my contemporaries and highly influential. When the Chronic Town EP started circulating around in the late summer of 1982 , there was a big buzz revolving mostly around the fact that Mitch Easter had produced the album and it was recorded at Drive-Inn.
First time I saw the band live it was in November of 1982, i was very much underage with a convincing fake ID, and it was very much a below average turnout at this particular venue. In pretty short order, the band released 'Murmur' in April of 1983.
I remember how excited we were to see them when they appeared on the Letterman show in the winter of 1983. We all took it very personally. Our music and our voice was finally being represented. Next time they came through the same town i had seen them live in 82, they sold out two nights in a 2500 seat theater and 10,000 Maniacs were in the support slot. I pretty much quit listening to them after Fables Of The Reconstruction.
