In this video i was up at 4am and out on the rocks ready to start fishing at sunrise. I'd be using the Patchinko 125 surface lure. With very little wind and flat calm sea, this would be the ideal lure to twitch along the surface just as that first bit of light was creeping through the clouds.
After only a couple of casts in, I'd soon see some activity in the water. Fish jumping clean out the water would at first, take me by surprise! I couldn’t be sure if these were bass as it was still a little bit dark.
I'd soon start hooking a few though along with also missing one or two. This morning really was one to remember! The bass were in a very active and aggressive mood and it made for some excellent fishing 🎣
I had a lot of fun during this session and i hope you enjoy the video!
Thanks for watching!
Rod - Nomura Never Crack 20-40g
Reel - Shimano Nasci 4000
Braid - 26lb Diawa J Braid
Leader - 20lb Berkley Trilene
Lure - Patchinko 125 Ghost Lancon

I see a strange world where the stripes have been wiped and they bass are smaller and fewer in number. Good for you, we are somewhat spoiled on the US east coast. But you still have cod and pollack from shore, which I read about happening in Montauk (pollack) under the light as late s the 1960's. Nice video, good luck.

Suggestions, what we would do. That looks like perfect bucktail water, deep enough to swim a castable weight slow enough to work right. Our "walk the dog" lures or maybe what we call pencil poppers might get explosive and angry strikes on reflex. Small darters and metal lips too for the bigger fish. Maybe even get the tail slapping behavior that drives us nuts with topwater and live baits. A 1/2-3/4oz bucktail with an Otter Tail or other strip or twister tail would be the go to here.

What kind of depth of water are you fishing over here mate? I have a patchinko on its way, never really heard of people using surface lures round my end, so wondering what kind of conditions/venue you need for them
@FISHINGWITHCAL
@FISHINGWITHCAL 3 года назад
This place ranges from about 4ft to round about 8ft I’d say. Usually a surface lure is great for running over shallow rough ground or over any snaggy/weedy ground. You can use them in deeper water also, a surface lure with a rattle will entice the bass up from deeper water. They’re great for fishing the spots that would be so called tackle graveyards though. A surface lure can really open up a lot more venues to you without worrying about getting snagged up or loosing lures. 👍🏼

Nice one mate 👍🏼 You can’t beat it can you. That’s a tricky one. To be honest, I don’t think there’s too much you can do about that. @@FISHINGWITHCAL Hi Cal, I live on Anglesey and when I started shore fishing I spent many evenings at a local beach and in June/July I started to see fish jumping out of the water. They would come in to the bay where there was a river outlet and move through and then back out passed the headland. All the time you could see them clearing the water. One of them was absolutely huge easily 20+ Lb. But I couldn't figure out what they were and thought they might have been bass since they were silver but my eyesight isn't great lol. I asked a lot of people and most people seemed to think it was more rare for a bass to do something like that but it's very common with the trout. It turns out there are absolutely loads of them here and always thought sea trout were quite rare so will be trying to catch one this year. They do seem to have a habit of jumped just outside casting range though ha ha. I had my first bass of the season yesterday, 2nd cast but then a load of seas turned up. Thanks for the video they're great and they really help motivate me to get outside.

I wouldn’t say the Nasci is heavy. I use a Vanford now and compared to that, it is heavy yes. A Nasci isn’t as heavy as a Penn though. Now I’ve used the Vanford I’ll never go back. It’s possible to catch bass on surface lures in the dark but nowhere near as much as in daylight.

Hi mate, I use a fluoro leader yeah. I use 20lb breaking strength. Usually about 3ft. It’s mostly for a rubbing leader to prevent a fish snapping off if it takes a dive into kelp or rock.
