It took me 6 hours to find this clip after originally hearing it almost 13 years ago and somehow remembering it this morning. Beat still gave me goosebumps !
Hey! I know this guy! I met him at the Frankfurt Musik Messe a few years ago. I asked him about why he held his bass that way. The answer was "I used to play the violin" ... That was the absolutely the best answer to any question i've ever asked in my life .... ever!
It's amazing when you stumble across videos like this when you were looking for something else; this was pure musical precision: executed brilliantly by the drummer and the bassist.
Not seen a bass played like that before, it must be a killer for cramp, my arm would totally seize up like that. His forearms must be monstrous. Great groove anyway! Love it.
My band played with Quintin's band Uglistick last night in Gulport, MS. He should really be seen in person in an entire band situation. He actually has great stage presence to back up his phenomenal playing. New influence and friend. Check out his band Uglistick....and mine...Hidden Element..
It is a Spector, but also if you look at the tuning pegs, they are not angled back like Warwick Basses and some Ken Smith Basses are.But you can get Warwick models with Soapbars and Humbuckers available.
Yeah, that was all improvised. Quintin was doing a bass clinic at Alpha Music in Virginia Beach and wanted to show the audience an improvised jam. Before that he had played a prearranged jam with his drummer at the time, Marty. Quintin's an awesome bass player. He can play conventionally or over his shoulder like a violinist. He played violin as a kid. This video is taken from his DVD which may be available through his website.
shortly after watching this video i tryed playin my bass like that.... it dosnt work, any haters right now peace out this takes skill right here they sound pritty damn good... so good i stole the jam and im gonna use it as a backing track for when i play my guitar.....
Thanks for the complement. I understand now that I confused a lot of people with the title. That's because I'm probably older, and to me before "Drum and Bass" was a style, it literally meant A DRUMMER AND A BASS PLAYER JAMMING AN IMPROVISED PIECE OF MUSIC.But that's too long of a title. Sorry about the confusion. I could have said IMPROVISATIONAL FUNK JAM. Thanks for the comment
