Had a chance to meet him a few years back, despite his talent he is somehow still humble. I remember him asking if any of us played music other than my buddies, who he knows and recorded a couple tracks with (this is why I was able to meet him). My girlfriend called me out. “He plays a little guitar”. I was frozen, couldn’t believe she put me on the spot. I corrected her. “I make a little noise”. Victor replied seriously, “it’s all music man, and that’s all that matters.” Such a cool person
In the early nineties I was at the NAMM. (National Association of Music Merchants - trade show for the manufacturers of any thing music) and my buddy and I are on the lower level where the smaller companies had booths. We come across this guy and even standing just three or four fett from him it was difficult to comprehend what he was doing. For years my friend and I talked about him as this mythical bassist that we once saw. As if he were Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. Years later when he became more famous people remembered us telling them about how he had a hair tie around the neck and the mythical God-like player became real.
I'm a guitar player and I went to one of his clinics. He's the nicest person I've ever met and the most informative. He has enormous patience and a good heart. He feels every note from goods soul. I'm a better guitar player from watching and listening to him. He gave the best advice of my career. "You're never more than a half step away from a 'right' note" God bless you Victor.
Got sad for a second when I realized it really doesn't get better than this, but then I just watch it again and seem to notice something different each time.
Brian Bromberg, Henrik Linder are in the same league, to name a few serious candidates. And there's that Indian girl Mohini but she makes horrible Bollywood-fusion. As it comes to solos, my favorite is still ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tgffDVO2UyA.html
Victor has been banned from 7 galaxies for redefining physics with his thumb. His bass clef shaped spaceship crash landed into what is now the Yucatan peninsula creating the Chicxulub crater. Some 66 million years later his spirit emerged from the depths of the ocean and materialized in human form as the most funky creature to ever exist. If we make first contact with alien life-forms it will be to return victor to his home among the stars where he usually uses the power of his bass to alter the gravity around black holes for intergalactic space travel.
I saw Victor play a 2-man show with Bela fleck a few weeks ago in New York. There were no other musicians. They didn't need them. They were having so much fun. The played a couple of songs in 11/16 time which they said was difficult, but you couldn't tell. although they played together in Bela fleck and the Flecktones, they had never played as a duo. Unreal.
Rolling Stone put Victor in number 10 for Top 10 Bassists of all time. VICTOR WOOTEN. SPOT 10. Below Paul McCartney and Flea. Both good musicians but... better BASSISTS??? THEN THIS GUY?!?!? I don't think so.
Well I guess they meant he’s a 10 on aScale from 1 to 10 where 10 is best. Man this guy is a beast. He first blew my mind with the lesson and just now I saw this😵
@@ZephyrBassPiano charles Berthoud is a professional Bassist unlike Davie504. Don’t get me wrong, I really think Davie got some serious chops but Charles is obviously way more experienced than davie, Victor Wooten on the other hand is on a whole different level of musicianship then both of the others. But who cares about chops? in the end of the day the gigs pay the bills and not the chops. And all of them got that going in their particular way which I quite like 👍
It's simply amazing, seeing him express his genius and, as a bass player, feeling motivated instead of overwhelmed. He is incredible, truly a great example of good musicianship. I know he'd be proud of all of us for trying lmao.
If I had that much talent I would love to just walk into a music store on a busy day, pick up a bass and just jam out real quick. Then humbly leave with out saying a word.
Watching Wooten play bass is sorta like when a girl removes her bra without taking her shirt off first. I can see it happen, and it's glorious, but I don't understand how either of them do it...
Ha ha ha, this guy travels through time, fighting crime with the lyrical thumping of his bass guitar. We bassists worship him as a fearsome God and pay him tribute
His Rhythm is really strong. at times when he plays, he completely throws melody out the door, but it doesn't matter because the rhythm is what's keeping it interesting.
got to meet him just the other day, and he is very humble but he doesnt play like any regular rock or jazz bassist definately one of a kind that uses various techniques. The way he describes his playing is nothing is pre-arranged and when he gets on stage with steve bailey they speak a language to each other through their instruments. It was truly an honor.
I am so angry with myself for not finding this clip earlier. Victor u are undoubtly the Best Funk bassist to walk this earth. I heard them all. U are without a blink of an eyelid the best there was ,is and will be. Kick ass bass licks. WOW!!! U STILL KICK ASS VICTOR and will continue to.
+tankmaster1018 Les Claypool has a very different style to Victor. Victor's a real innovator of double-thumb / pluck, where as Les is more oriented towards combining down-thumbing and flamenco strumming. The above clip could be imitated by many people without knowing what they're actually doing, where as Victor has a complete grasp of the palette he's working with.
That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, Jimi Hendrix on bass. Lol, that whammy bar is so awesome!!! I didn’t know they made that on bass guitars but it makes sense. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
As a bass player I see this as one of those situations where he’s so good it’s ridiculous! The best thing about his playing is that you can tell he loves what he does.
i didnt even make it past the 0:30 mark man.... i keep rewinding, and now that i did i am not sure if i am inspired to keep playing or just quit in general and leave it to him.
