If you're having trouble with this old tutorial I recommend checking out the newer and better video on audio reactions in After Effects: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n87AkeEwgQg.html
yeah but unfortunately, that one is half about (advanced) expressions in general and half promotion for third party plugins... but i just want to do the bass shake effect like in this video (and it's not working :/ ) edit: aaand now i figured it out. i just exchanged one hour of my life against the knowledge, that "magnification" can not be lower than 100, so the "100+" part is mandatory. :) and after i figured it out myself, i just noticed you even said that in the video :D
"100+(thisComp.layer("Audio Amplitude").effect("Both Channels")("Slider")*.5)" Ohhhhh i get it now, my English skills failed me i didn't put the ( before thisComp.layer, that confused me for so long yet you even said to put a bracket on it lol my brain don't work good but now i sorted that out thanks mate, this will help a lot in my line of work! :)
Sure. Linear has 5 parts. And it's best to know it like this: "linear(what, minIn,maxIn,minOut,MaxOut)" where 'what" is the value it looks at. minIn is remapped to minOut and all valyes below minIn become Minout too. And same for the max values. You're almost correct in your comment except that values between do get remapped. The best way to understand it is to use it though and look at the outputs.
Famizen many people have problem with converting audio to keyframes. After you press it, it takes pretty long time to generate the audio amplitude, not instant like in video and any kind of pressing, anywhere, will instantly cancel it. So you just wait, don't touch your mouse or KB, you can see the progress % on top right
Audio layer? Did you convert the audio into keyframes? Are you pick whipping from the text property to another property that has outputs for you to use?
Well great thing about video, you can watch it as many times as you want and even pause it so the rest of us don't have to sit through an hour of nonsense!!!!! YAY youtube!!!
Well, there is such thing as "0.5" speed. And even better is that you can pause and repeat. And if a medium animator can do it barely well, I must be a professional animator. (Hint - I'm not)
No worries. I try to keep it vanilla so everyone can follow along. Really if people want to use video copilot's plugin for flares instead you just map the brightness value in that instead so no one misses out. I will say though their plug-ins might be costly but for me they're worth every penny in the long run.
Crank Lucas You would have to manually change the effect keyframe with the music (You can scroll the channel to show audio amplitude) it takes more time but it is possible. If you get the first few measures you could probably copy and paste with some tweaking
well since this tutorial is predicated on an input of some kind of audio you just need some kind of input. So you could keyframe the values manually if you so desired. Instead of pick whipping to a string of values just make keyframes. Or use any other audio.
I like how fast you did this to keep the video short! People should be using the pause button for tutorials anyway. It's to understand the tools. Not copy them exactly ! great work!
Thanks for this tutorial! However, I got as far as 3mins in, and then when I entered in *.5) into my magnification expression, I got an error message saying After Effects warning: an expression was disabled as a result of an error. Error at line 1 in property 'Magnification' of layer 1 ('bass effects') in comp 'the name of my music layer'
Was that all you entered? Just *.5? How confusing would that be for a computer? Hey, computer, multiply by .5! "Multiply what by .5? it would ask just before finding no more information and having an error. Is there more to the expression you're putting into that space or is that it?
Well the short answer is you disable the audio by disabling the audio. You see on the layer there is a little eye, and a speaker, and some other things on the timeline at the left. Click the speaker icon and no more sound. Click the eye and no more picture. Enjoy.
Hi! Awesome tutorial and it works all for me, but when I try to put the "Magnify" plug-in to the Bass Effects, nothing happen! It doesn´t work for me, What do you think is the problem? I forgot to do something or maybe can be that the plug-in do not work for me? pls help, thanks :)
Alberto Arias Rodriguez I think you're either missing a step or missing some understanding of part of the process. I would suggest you go through it slowly and see where yours stops looking and behaving like mine. Unless you have been poking around where you shouldn't be poking all effects should work as expected.
Alberto Arias Rodriguez The same problem happened to me. I tried typing in "magnify" and nothing showed up. I found this comment conversation, tried it again and it magically showed up. Thanks for putting this comment here or I may have given up.
Have you tied just pick whipping the properties to whatever you want to change about the text layer? OR precomping? What did you try? What happened when you tried it?
Wow Evan, you went quick on this one, especially with the expressions! I had to rewind a lot, but it was totally worth it. Now my image of a subwoofer is thumping! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! There is another much better tutorial on this channel about audio reactions if you're interested. I recommend it much more than this one.
2:13 you ticked the box but did something else too. Alt+Left Clicked the Blurriness. Bro honestly I only just picked that up when really you didn't say anything about it. Be a bit more clear next time. Please.
Thanks. I just released the update to this video getting deeper in to audio reaction in Ae. It may not be as funny but I hope the educational value is better.
This one is the most outstanding tutorials on this subject i`ve found so far! Thank you sir! This will bring our newest short to a whole new level. Keep it up, you`re doing a fantastic job!
Right on. Well when i say "separate the bass out" i mean either you have a track that is just what you want to be interacting with. Or you can apply a bass boost and reduce the treble, or you can do nothing. It's not essential. The linear expression will alleviate most of your woes if you just continue the tutorial to completion.
It's because it wasn't done processing the keyframes. Your click interrupted it. Just wait. And look in the info window. When it's done nothing will be happening. Maybe just to be safe go get some water and then come back after you have it start the process.
Are you? Anyway. If the values aren't fluctuation on the key frames layer then it's not correct. make sure nothing is muted and that you give it time to process after you give it the command to convert. If you interrupt the process it does nothing.
if you apply effects to an audio layer it affects the audio layer. You can remove it after you have generated the desired keyframes from it though. Nothing in Ae is permanent.
subscribed, Thank you for the awesome tutorial. Finally someone who does it quick yet explains things well. I'll be checking out your other videos for sure.
These videos are amazing. I've been binge watching your channel since yesterday and it's really inspired me to do some new stuff. I've always wanted to do these kinds of effects in my productions, and now I finally feel confident enough to dream bigger for my videos. Thank you so much for making these. By the way, your voice is awesome.
To be clear hitting "u" while on the timeline will open everything you put a keyframe on. Hitting "u" twice will bring up everything you have altered about the layer. Hitting "u" again will close the stuff. For more about how all the shortcuts work see the adobe.com help file/
ah yes, this is a problem that adobe has never seemed to think needs addressing. It's disappearing because you're interrupting the process. You just need to wait before you click orf touch anything because it uses the ram buffer to complete the operation. So clicking or doing anything cancels the operating and the layer is deleted. Give it some time and watch the info window.
For beginners: In mac to active expressions the short cut is: Alt + click on Time vary stop whach (watch icon). People for the windows; i don´t know if really works, but try it. Thks for the tutorial Abrams
On our site, we do lots of SEO stuff and most of it is bullshit. But we also do some YT-SEO, and this stuff really seems to work. You're already doing a good job with the custom thumbnails, they're readable, give a good idea of what's coming. For the titles, I suggest always putting major keywords in the beginning - i.e. "After Effects tutorial:...". Tags should be full of relevant keywords, as well. Another thing that really helps getting people to keep watching: End cards. (1/2)
Hey man, I've been trying to do this for ages! I hope you see this comment and know how helpful this was to me, this add's so much life to my project :D
I don't think AE is really the best for working up a live input. There are some things that can help make it happen though. Check out some things called Lensfeed, Veescope and Conduit Live
Awesome Tutorial, thanks so much for sharing. Also really liked your ending add ons about lens flares, color adjustments, vignette, etc for the finished product. Great Work. Subscribed.
They're worth every penny for a pro, but for a casual user that makes a video every once in a while, not so much. Not knocking the product, just making an observation. Keep up the great work! Maybe a speedy tutorial about the comment/rate/subscribe overlay is in order. Also, maybe another custom transition tutorial that's a bit more fancy...like ESPN fancy. I've always wanted to make something like that.
well there's a tutorial on the graph editor that might help. You might thing about not using easy ease and try the auto bezier keyframes. Or use something like a wiggle() expression instead of keyframes to make your motion.
magnify might be called something different depending on the language of your after effects. But I'm pretty sure it should be in after effects going back to the first version I ever used.
yeah like... infinite percent more. I would recommend taking the audio, putting it into Ae and at least using it to get values you can bring back into an adjustment layer in premier.
