➡️ Because of YOU fabulous folks, I learned that an “Enhanced Bass” version of “The Call of Ktulu” by @metallica was a thing. What a treat it was to experience all the nuance and dimension the bass parts actually had. I’ve been listening to this instrumental song from "Ride The Lightning" for YEARS without fully knowing what Cliff Burton was playing. In this video, we take a deep dive into the "lead bass" approach Cliff takes during the first half of the song, the variation on the fills, and how it's truly just one massive bass solo (...take one?) atop the brooding chord progressions. I talk about Cliff's usage of effects with his signature "wah" and fuzz combo, the chromatic commonalities in each song section, how Metallica exercise the art of simplicity (and why it's so effective), and how this song perfectly sets the stage for American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft's ominous being "Cthulhu" to appear any minute now!
