Hi I'm Theo.
I play bass, often poorly. I love effects and started this channel as a way to document what I've owned.
On this channel we look at bass effects pedals, Bass VI, pedal combinations and getting specific tones.
Go check out my other channel where I focus on using effects designed for guitar on bass:

What gauge strings are you using on the black one that you tuned to B?
@TheoAndHisPedals
@TheoAndHisPedals 3 года назад
I'm pretty sure they are D'ADDARIOEXL157 Nickel Baritone Guitar Strings 14-68

Is it possible to do some tapping on it?
@Oliver-ex3cs

@@diegoherrera2139 you can tap on anything, it just might take a little more than a normal guitar. Hell if you can tap on a bass, you can tap on this, right?

great guitar tone with the Leeds, I'd watch a video full of licks on that.

I already own a regular 6 string electric, a Baritone, and a bass so I really need the algorithm to stop showing me bass VI videos before I make a mistake.

Nice video, i love mine Bass vi! Did u do the refinish yourself? It looks amazing! I was disappointed at the sparse selection of colors the squire had so I really want to get it a new color if it’s possible in some way

Thanks, and yes i did. This was my first full refin and i'm really happy how it turned out and as its a squire I didnt really feel like if I messed it up I was losing all that much. Definitely worth trying yourself.

Is this up for sale? Reverb perhaps? There is a one on there that is very similar.

Hey! I've been playing around with my Bass VI for about a year and was looking at doing some aesthetic mods after replacing the bridge and strings. I was wondering where you got all of the custom switch and control plates from? Also was looking at refinishing it in the medium term future to make it a bit more personalized, and was wondering if you had any particular tips or things to look out for with the VI. Love the look and sound of your instruments, by the way!

I got the custom gold pickguard, switch place and string retainer /hardtail plate from Herad in Australia, I found them on Reverb, they're on Instagram too. It wasn't cheap but they have some really cool stuff. In terms of refinishing, this was my first real full refinishing and I've just finished my second (a squier bronco bass in vintage white). I'm still making mistakes and what I've learned is to take care and take your time, also if any dirt or fluff gets caught in your clear coat, it's much more obvious when you are using a white colour coat!

Also, I was daunted by removing all the wiring to paint the body, so what I did was leave it all intact, cover them in plastic and tape them into their cavities, I also put masking tape on the pickups so they could be left in place. It worked fine but under the pickguard you can see some places that didn't get the paint because it was being masked by tape. Also I recommend the hardtail trem plate if you're not going to use the trem but if you got that route, then you can wrap the bridge posts in tape so they don't move.

@@TheoAndHisPedals Thanks for the info! Did you use any specific resources on refinishing guitars? Would be my first refinish as well and really don't want to mess it up, hahaha!

I watched a whole bunch of RU-vid vids and read some articles from a few different websites like Stew Mac, Manchester Guitar Tech and Northwest Guitars. Although there's some variety in the advice given, it's generally the same. One thing I found on the videos is that they all recommend stripping the body. As long as the body is in good condition then I've just scuffed up the existing finish a bit and then put some primer over the top. I like the idea that over time my refinish will wear away and there will be another, different finish underneath. I think Destroying Amps have a good series recently where he refinished his jaguar.

@@TheoAndHisPedals Gotcha, thanks! Was mostly worried about taking off the current finish but I think I might just follow your lead on that as I think it's a nice idea. I'll check those out!

Are you going DI from the VT Bass or into an amp and mic'ing up? I see the Ampeg 2x10 there, I'm very curious about the Bass VI through an Ampeg SVT Micro-VR.

Great video!! I have a Bass VI myself. What do you mean by tuned to B? I have never heard of this tuning.

@TheoAndHisPedals 2 года назад
Thanks! Its tuned up to BEADF#B - Its the equivalent of putting a capo on the 7th Fret - which is usually used on baritone guitars.

Thanks for this demonstration dude, very helpful. What is the hardtail bridge you have installed in the blue one? Also what benefits have you found in dropping a buzz stopper in the black one? Does it make it easier to intonate or just keeps the strings from jumping around? Cheers!
@TheoAndHisPedals
@TheoAndHisPedals 2 года назад
Thanks! I've got two of those hardtail plates, one I got from a company on reverb called Herad and one came with a used Squier Jaguar I bought on Reverb. The benefits of the buzz stop is twofold if you're using a tremolo because the break angle of the strings at the bridge can be too low meaning that, as you said, they pop out but also there's some off-kilter harmonics you get when you play hard because the strings are still vibrating AFTER the bridge. The buzz stop increases the angle by pulling the strings down just after the bridge, which fixes both issues BUT those hardtail trem plates also do that. One could argue though that if you set the guitar up right, you wouldn't need a buzz stop (shim the neck, raise the bridge to match and you create a higher break angle) but importantly you might like access to the length of strings after the bridge as you can get some cool sounds out of them.

Thanks for the vid man! Even though I’m a bass newbie, I can’t help myself but purchase a Bass VI. The only thing I was afraid of is seeing people only play this guitar as a lead instrument. Your vid gave me confidence in buying this baby, excellent!
@TheoAndHisPedals
@TheoAndHisPedals 3 года назад
You're welcome! My one piece of advice is that the standard strings that come with it are far too light, so a common complaint is how floppy the strings are, so look for a set that has at least .100 on the heavy E. I just got a custom set that has a .110 (with the other strings adjusted accordingly) and its probably the most worthwhile upgrade you can make!
