Cherokee is my home lake.i fished tournaments here for sixteen years. In 1988 or 1989 I can't remember, Ron overbay a biologist with the twra came to one of our club meetings to discuss Cherokee and their recent shocking studies. they shocked a smallmouth between mile 27 and 28 that exceeded 12 pounds. he would not give us any details other than that...Arvin fillers, Sunnyside custom Baits.
I am heading down there the week of the FLW to marshal. I had planned to fish it early week before the tournament started and figured it was mainly a largemouth fishery. This might change my approach to fishing it.
Kinda odd seeing these pros only going for smallmouth... I live near this lake and fish it a lot... We've had 25.lbs of just largemouth several times and I've seen several 10lbs largemouths caught every year !
TheBassbuster45 i agree. i live here too and i believe the reason that they targeted smallmouth is because it was winter. largemouth on cherokee in winter are big, but inconsistent and hard to locate.
